Chapter 65: Chapter 65 Spying Gone Wrong

A deep, guttural growl rolled through the night air. My body went stiff at the thought of getting caught.

I draw back further into the shadows, pressing my back flat against the wall. A werewolf was patrolling nearby, its blue eyes scanning through the darkness. It moved through the open path, its black fur with brown patches bristling under the glow of the torches. For a moment, I was sure it would sniff me out.

It paused, its snout twitched, sniffing the air, then shook its head and padded away into the darkness.

I didn’t move, and I didn’t dare to breathe until it disappeared from view. The cloak Caroline gave me—it worked. My brows furrowed, how didn’t it sniff me out?

’That was close.’

Once I was sure the danger had passed, I moved again, careful with each step. My feet barely made a sound against the cold stone and damp soil. Every breath I took felt like a gamble. If they caught me now, I wouldn’t even make it back to my cell. They might even rip me into shreds before they realize who I am.

I moved through the garden’s outer edge, using the trees as cover. I hid between hedges and old stone pillars until I came across a narrow path that led toward the darker corners of the territory—places rarely patrolled.

The air grew colder the farther I walked, and the thick canopy above blocked out most of the light from the half moon.

That was when I heard hushed voices.

I slowed my pace, my chest tightened with fear of the unknown. One voice was unmistakable.

"...you assured me the locket would be handled quietly," Alpha Allison’s voice rang low and cold, her words sharp as a blade.

I froze and slowly crouched behind a crumbling stone wall, peering through a crack.

There she was. Allison stood tall in a long black cloak, her posture tense. But what sent a shiver down my spine was the figure standing across from her—hooded, taller, and surrounded by a faint, strange mist. The figure wore a dark red ring on their middle finger, the ring glowed faintly as if it was alive.

"But the job is done..." the cloaked figure rasped, voice inhuman and metallic. "Isn’t it? As long as there is no one in your way, you will succeed in merging your Crescent moon pack with the Bloodshade pack, and you will be the strongest force the world has ever seen and you will be its Luna. Why worry about her?"

"Worried? Me? She’s just a breeder," Allison snapped. "But I don’t want her near him, he hasn’t even moved on from the past. And I want to be the one that would make him forget about her and I don’t want it to be the breeder, am I asking for too much?"

I swallowed hard, gripping the edge of the wall. They were talking about me. ’So this is the bitch plan? She thinks I’m going to make Damon forget about the strange ’her’ who I still don’t know. Very dumb Alpha.’

The cloaked figure let out a hollow chuckle. "No you are not. However she’s a breeder, and can never amount to your grace. The Alpha would never choose her over you. He also wants power, currently, he is not in his strongest form yet, he needs to mark a mate so his wolf can become stronger. And you are the perfect mate for that."

"But still, he can touch her. And that is something I’ve never been able to achieve!" Allison hissed, her calm mask crumbling. "But Alpha Damon... he’s unpredictable. I need that locket destroyed before it triggers anything. If he ever finds out who truly stole it..."

My eyes widened. ’I wish I had a phone with me right now, I would have recorded them as evidence. Damn the universe for not bringing one with me. They are literally confessing their deeds!’

"You need to calm yourself," the cloaked figure warned. "You’ve already left traces. And I bet the Alpha is already following that trail."

"I did what I had to," she snapped. "Damon was becoming too soft. Ever since that girl showed up, he’s been... different."

"Softness is weakness," the figure agreed. "And weakness must be punished."

They both fell silent for a second. Then the figure stepped forward, drawing something from beneath their cloak.

A vial with red blood.

Allison took it with shaky hands. "This is the last dose?"

"Yes. Administer it directly into his drink. His mind will forget the girl, and whatever bond he sensed will fade. He’ll return to the Alpha he was before, cold and heartless."

I nearly gasped. She was drugging Damon?

I covered my mouth quickly, to prevent myself from making any noises.

"He’ll thank me later," Allison whispered to herself.

"No one thanks the puppeteer," the figure replied. "But if you want to remain in power, you’ll stay in the shadows."

She didn’t answer.

The figure turned, slowly vanishing into the mist like smoke dissipating into the wind.

Allison stood alone for a while, just clutching the vial.

I backed away from the wall, careful not to make a sound. My hands trembled. My stomach twisted. I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard.

She wasn’t just framing me. She was trying to rewrite Damon’s mind. To erase me completely and who knows what else.

My breathing quickened, but I forced myself to remain still. My mind was spinning—drugging Damon, destroying the locket, erasing me like I was nothing. How far was she willing to go? And what if it worked?

I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t let her win.

The night air felt colder now, pressing against my skin like ice. I needed to get back. I needed to warn someone. Anyone.

My foot shifted slightly, moving on the path behind me.

But fate, as always, had terrible timing.

Snap.

The twig broke beneath my boot—and so did my moment of safety.

Allison’s head jerked up.

"Who’s there?" she shouted, her eyes scanning the shadows.

’Fuck I’m screwed.’ My eyes widened in horror.
