Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Accused
’His possession was stolen, so how does that relate to me?’ My pulse thundered in my ears.
As we made our way back to Damon’s room, I had a foreboding feeling that this wasn’t going to end well for me. My palms turned sweaty. The maids gave me a strange look, as if I had done something unspeakable.
When we reached the door, the soldier knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Damon’s voice brought chills down my spine.
My back straightened; the tension in the air made it feel like I was found guilty and punishable by death. Cold beads of sweat formed on my skin. I closed my eyes before stepping into the room.
The soldier followed me inside. For some strange reason, it made me feel safe, because I didn’t know if I could bear his menacing aura.
Damon stood with his back to us, his hands tightened around the edge of the table, his breath was ragged, furs rippling through his body, like there was a fight of dominance between him and his Lycan wolf.
"Alpha, she’s here," the soldier said with a bow.
"Out!" Damon turned abruptly. His voice thundered, making me shudder from the mere power in his voice.
Immediately, the soldier scrambled out of the room while I stood frozen to the ground, my body trembling like a leaf in the winter.
Damon’s grey eyes locked on me before they darkened. He moved, walking deliberately and slowly toward me. Every step he took was full of menace, and madness danced in his eyes... yeah, unfiltered madness.
"Why did you take it, Ember?" he growled.
"Take what?"
A chair was sent flying; it smashed into the wall, shattering into pieces. My legs trembled, seconds away from buckling. His aura was so cold and terrifying that I wanted to escape from his presence.
’I guess that’s a wrong answer.’
"You are going to play dumb? Do I look like I’m playing?" Furs rippled through his body again.
My lips quivered. "Master... I really don’t know." I bared my neck in submission as he loomed closer.
A thunderous growl rumbled from his chest.
"Liar... You bloody liar, you took the locket!" His voice was thicker, it sounded like roaring thunder. A chill ran through my body—this was his wolf’s voice.
’So this is what this is all about? His locket has gone missing.’
"No, I didn’t, Master... remember you sent me out of the room earlier." My voice trembled, my gaze fixated to the ground.
A vase smashed on the floor; some of its shards cut my leg, but I dared not whimper or protest.
"Lies," he drawled, his jaw twitched. "Why is your scent on my table?"
I looked up; my eyes met his. "No, I wasn’t here, Master... maybe you misplaced it, I can help you find it..."
The next moment, my back smashed against the cold hard wall. His hand tightened around my neck. I clawed at his hand, desperate to break free from his grip.
"Find it? I have turned the room upside down, yet it is nowhere to be found." He growled menacingly at my face.
Tears flowed seamlessly down my cheeks. "How could you be sure I took it? You can’t judge based on just that..." I squeaked.
Suddenly, he retracted his hand. My legs gave out; I dropped to the ground.
"Ember, all you have to do is return it, and I’ll forgive this ever happened." His words sounded more like a threat and a plea at the same time.
"What if someone framed me? You know I wouldn’t dare do this. I was framed, Master." I choked on my tears.
"Then explain why your scent was there if you didn’t take it," he pointed angrily at his desk.
"I can’t explain... But I never took it." I sobbed.
I knew crying wouldn’t resolve this. Someone had framed me, and deep down I knew Allison had started to make her move. However, I just couldn’t figure out how my scent was found on the desk.
"If I really wanted to take your precious locket, do you think I’m stupid enough to leave my scent there so you can easily find me?" I blinked away my tears.
He looked at me, as if contemplating whether what I said was true or not. His jaws tightened, his eyes narrowed at me with so much hatred and anger.
"Guards!"
His expression turned to a cold and unreadable one.
’What is the point of begging if he had already made up his mind that I was the one who took it? I must really applaud Allison for this; she got me really good. And I was thinking she was going to get physical with me, considering that was her area of expertise. I never knew she would play such an underhanded game.’ A sad smirk tugged on my lips.
The door burst open; two guards appeared in the room. "Alpha," they greeted.
Damon squatted to my level. "If you don’t tell me where it is... I will torture you until you spill it out."
I shuddered at his words. His eyes were colder than steel—a type of coldness I have never seen until now.
My lips trembled; they parted but nothing came out. I shut my mouth, because there was no way he was going to believe me. If I accused Alpha Allison, I didn’t have any proof to support my claims. I would only be digging my grave faster.
"Take her away!"
I flinched at his words. My eyes turned cold as the soldiers pulled me away. If he thought I was going to beg, I wouldn’t—because I know it is nothing more than an empty drum to his ears.
As the soldiers pulled me down the hallway, loud crashes echoed from his room. The maids stared at me with wide eyes; others’ gazes were filled with disdain and scrutiny.
The irony—I thought I was already in their hearts. Guess I was wrong.
Along the way, Alpha Allison stood close to the wall. My gaze locked with hers; a small smirk curled on her lips.
’I knew it. That bitch set me up!’
