Chapter 58 Smell Trouble
Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Smell Trouble
Theo’s jaws clenched, his fists clenched so tight that his knuckles whitened. "Thank the goddess that my father had warned me not to lay a hand on you. I would have made you see stars right now." He turned away, seething in anger, his footsteps thudding against the tiles.
My throat tightened. At this rate, I might really end up dying from anger and a heart attack. ’Did I take that too far?’ I pressed my lips into a thin line.
I followed him, a chill ran through me, as I wondered what could be the reason I was being called. Not too long after, we arrived at the door to his room.
"Come in, Ember." Damon’s hoarse voice rang from the other side of the door. I took a deep breath to calm my racing heart before reaching for the door’s knob. I glanced over my shoulder, and I saw Theo stood still, his gaze sharp like a razor. His jaws clenched.
I had no idea why he hated me that much, but whatever it was, it sounded like his problem. I entered the room, shutting the door behind me.
As I stepped into the room, waves of nostalgic feeling crashed through me. Although I had not spent too much time in this room, it held so many memories... memories I wish I could erase. It was like a reminder of how my tale of being a pet began.
The strong smell of vape filled the room, which for a strange reason looked so dark even when the sun was still burning brightly outside. I walked further into the room, and just at the corner, I saw a figure sitting on a majestic chair. His poise was regal, yet it looked mournful. His raven-black hair was ruffled, some strands covering his face, the first few buttons of his black-sleeve shirt were open, revealing his hard-toned chest.
He stared at the locket in his hand with an unreadable expression. He brought the pipe to his mouth again, dragging it before letting the smoke flow freely from his nostrils and his mouth.
"M... Master?"
I stopped just a few steps away from him. I felt a tug in my heart at his undivided attention. He hadn’t even spared me a glance. It was like the locket would disappear if he removed his eyes from it.
"Where were you?" he asked, his voice devoid of emotion.
"I’m sorry, Master, I went with my friend to eat." I fumbled with my hands. ’Why does the air feel so oppressive and suffocating, as if a grim reaper was hovering in the air?’
"Oh, I see you have made a lot of friends." He hummed.
His thumb brushed faintly over the locket as if it would break if he applied too much force.
I chewed my inner cheek; the awkwardness was palpable. And from the way he was, I knew I had to tread lightly around him, even if he looked calm.
"Master, is there anything I can help you with?" I asked cautiously. I wondered what memories the locket held for him. Was it that important for him to stare at it for a long time?
"I want you to stay with me," he muttered.
"Huh?" My eyes widened in utter shock. ’Did I just hear him say I should stay with him? Has he gone mad?’
I shifted my weight to my right leg. I couldn’t help but think of our time together while riding the horse. But if he really wanted me to stay with him, why does he look like he wants to be left alone?
’Was this a test of some kind?’
"Hmm... Okay, Master." I said, my feet fixated to my spot.
"Why don’t you come closer?"
I inhaled shakily as I hesitantly walked towards him. My steps were heavy, as if there was a chain trying to restrict them back.
I stood beside him, my eyes swept over him down to the locket in his hand. The locket had the shape of a wolf head, with initials carved on it. On a closer look, it was like two halves joined into one. I believed it represented something to both Damon and the owner of the other half.
"You are breathing too loud," he growled at me.
The hair at the back of my neck stood on end. ’When was I?’ I wanted to scream so badly; however, nothing came out of my lips.
’So what is this now? One second he asked me to stay, and the next he is complaining that my breathing is too loud?’
"I’m sorry, Master..."
"Don’t talk if I don’t ask you to." He finally looked at me. My breath hitched as his eyes had turned to a silvery shade of grey.
My legs trembled from fear. This wasn’t Damon. This was his Lycan wolf.
"Get out!" his voice thundered, sending my spirit flying out of my body before returning back.
I scrambled out of the room. I turned around when I reached the door; he placed the locket in one of his drawers. Before he could catch me staring, I bolted out from the room.
As I walked down the hallway, my thoughts fumbled—a complete mess, as I couldn’t tell exactly what Damon wanted. ’Why did he call me into his room only to send me out angrily? Did he want comfort from me?’ I shook my head in denial. There was no way that could be. "Then why?"
I sighed. When I looked up at the sky, the sun was already setting. I had lost track of time, as I was lost in my thoughts.
I turned. A soldier ran towards me as if his life depended on it. His expression was serious, yet his eyes were filled with fear. As he got nearer, his body was drenched in sweat. Every step he took closer, my heart slammed harder against its ribs. ’Why do I smell trouble? A big one.’
The soldier skidded to a stop. "Alpha Damon requests for you now!" He stepped sideways, indicating I should start moving now.
"Do you know why he might be asking for me?" My body went numb.
"His possession is stolen. You are needed
