(Damon’s POV)

"Stand up, don’t make me repeat myself."

I glared at her, as my blood boiled in anger. But she didn’t budge, neither did she say a word.

Before I could say a word, the maids whom I had ordered to bring some food for her arrived.

They quickly arrange the food on the table, glancing now and then on Ember who was adamant of sticking to her role.

"You can go now." My voice came out cold and devoid of any emotion.

They scrambled away from my presence, without looking back.

I turned to Ember, I had numerous ways to make her wake up... torturous ones. But for some reason I didn’t want to hurt her. Though I’m going to punish her for calling me a Dumbass!

A playful smirk curled on my lips, as a thought crossed through my mind. I’d find out if she was really unconscious or not.

I cut a piece of the mutton, I walked stealthily to her, then I shoved the meat inside her mouth.

’Chew on it, you gluttonous pet.’

I stared in anticipation, and just as I had thought, she took a first bite, her brows furrowing as if she was in the nine clouds.

I smirked, but my gaze remained cold. She was lying and pretending isn’t this manipulation? Anger crossed my chest like a green vapour.

I leaned in closer to her in an attempt to whisper in her ears. But then, she suddenly raised her head up, her lips covered mine, my hand tightened as she ran her tongue over it.

I felt a bolt of electricity bolted down my spine, I hadn’t felt like this for a very long time.

My eyes widened in bewilderment. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, she began to chew on my lips as if they were meat. Her sharp teeth dug into my lips, but it healed incredibly fast, so there was no blood, but that didn’t stop the pain of someone chewing and pulling on my lips.

Then she inched deeper, biting my teeth. Then her eyes pried open, a look of fear, shock, and embarrassment flickered through her eyes.

AARGH!

Her scream snapped me out of my daze. But before I could say anything more, her back fell to the ground again, her eyes shut tightly close, she pretended to be unconscious again.

That was when it hit me like a lightning bolt. Disbelief flickering through my cold eyes.

She bit me.

On the lips.

For a second, I couldn’t move. I just stood there, frozen in shock as the pain registered. My lip—my royal, prestigious, never-before-violated lip—was pulsing with betrayal.

What the hell just happened?

I staggered back a step, pressing two fingers against the sore spot. My eyes narrowed on the culprit still lying dramatically on the floor like a fainting goat.

Beowulf pounced in my head, but didn’t utter a word except a growl. I was flabbergasted at the audacity she had to pull that off.

I intended to prove she was not unconscious by putting meat in her mouth. And according to my investigation she was pretending! Who chews meat while sleeping?

"You bit me?" My voice came out in disbelief. "Are you out of your bloody mind?!"

She didn’t answer. Of course she didn’t, she lay still, playing dead.

I squatted beside her furiously, my hands itching for me to snap those bony necks, staring at her closed eyelids with an incredulous glare. Her lashes fluttered slightly. Her brows deepened in embarrassment, her cheeks flushed. That little...

I shot to my feet, pacing in small, agitated circles. "You ungrateful brat! I was feeding you. Feeding you! To prove you are pretending, no less! I even tore the meat for you myself, and you decided to taste-test my face instead?!"

Still, I got no reaction from her.

I turned sharply toward her, crouched again, and whispered through gritted teeth, "Open your eyes."

Nothing.

"Ember."

Still nothing. The audacity.

I narrowed my eyes and leaned in, lowering my voice like a villain in a bedtime story. "If you don’t open your eyes right now, I will personally drag you to the elders’ hall and declare you unfit to be part of this pack. Then I’ll assign you latrine duty. Every. Single. Day."

One eye cracked open.

I smirked. "There she is."

She looked around innocently, blinking like a newborn fawn. "Oh... you’re here? I must’ve fainted. What happened?"

She even had the audacity to ask me questions? "You bit me."

Her expression turned angelic. "I did?"

I growled, pointing to my lip. "You nearly ripped my soul out through my mouth."

She tried to sit up, wincing exaggeratedly. "Oh no... I must’ve been sleep-eating. You know how some people sleepwalk? Maybe I sleep-snack..."

"Sleep-snack?" I echoed, jaw clenching. "What am I, a midnight dessert?!"

"Technically, you’re meat," she muttered under her breath.

I didn’t hear it clearly, but I caught enough to nearly combust. My fists clenched at my sides, and I paced again to calm down before I lost my sanity.

Why was I cursed with this one?

I turned back to her, cracking my knuckles. "Get up."

"Still weak," she croaked, lying back dramatically again.

"You were strong enough to bite me."

"It was a reflex," she said softly, eyes fluttering shut. "My body was just grateful. It wanted more..."

"More?!"

She smiled sheepishly, before clamping her hand over her mouth. "Sorry. Slip of the tongue." Her face had turned red like a tomato.

I pointed a finger at her, hardening my expression. "If you ever, ever, bite me again, I swear I will make you fan me while standing on one leg."

She tilted her head, her eyes avoiding mine. "Do I get to eat during that?"

"No!"

She frowned. "Then I can’t make any promises."

My eyes twitched.

’Was she testing my patience? Have I become so lenient with her that she doesn’t fear me anymore? I’ll give her a strong punishment, one that would make her beg for my mercy.’
