Chapter 47 Mutton Meat

Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Mutton Meat

After the meeting ended, the elders went out to supervise the rebuilding of the wall. I remained alone in the room with Damon. The space felt like it was too small, and I wanted to run from it, but I dared not move an inch as his gaze fixed me to the ground.

I looked around the room, avoiding his burning gaze, my heart thumping in my chest.

"How is your hand?" His question was like a sore thumb stuck out of place.

I swallowed, "Good." I wanted to end the conversation as suddenly as it had begun.

"Sit down," he commanded.

’Of course, master, treat me however you like. But know that one day I will stick a knife through your chest.’

I sat down on the chair, which was a little further from him.

"Come closer, Ember."

I didn’t need to be told twice before I moved closer to him.

Silence fell on the room, that even a graveyard would be more lively. The tension was so palpable that it was difficult for me to breathe.

Suddenly, a mouthwatering aroma hit my nostrils. I sniffed the air a couple of times, as I wanted to detect what food it was. My stomach grumbled loudly. I covered my face with my hand as the shame was too unbearable.

"It seems like my pet is famished," he mused.

"Because someone was so angry last night that he forgot to feed his pet," I muttered under my breath, my hands still covering my face. I was grateful for that, because I didn’t have to see the look on his face. Anyway, I could already visualize it in my head. And from the aura that was exuding from him, I knew his gaze had turned to ice—maybe North Pole.

"Then, someone should learn to be true, and stop being manipulative."

"Manipulative? Aren’t you getting ahead of yourself, dumbass?"

Immediately the words left my mouth, my eyes opened wide like a saucepan. What the heck did I just say? That was supposed to be in my head... Did I just say that out loud?

My hand flew to my lips, as I turned to him with my face ashen with fear. However, his voice was blank, and the silence returned. It was so overwhelming that the sound of a falling pin would be like a grenade explosion.

’Maybe he didn’t hear me.’ He looked like he had been frozen in time.

’Okay, this is strange, why isn’t he saying anything, and he’s not even blinking. Is his brain resetting?’

I began to chew on my nails, afraid to utter a word. It felt like the calm before the storm, but there was no way I could have said that out loud, right?

"What did you just say?" His voice was laced with disbelief. He sounded raspy, as if his brain had fully rebooted.

"What did I say?" I blinked innocently at him.

He stared so hard at me that I felt my skin scorching under his gaze, moments from melting away like ice cream under the sun.

’Okay. I think I said it out loud... What are you waiting for?’

Immediately, I fell on my knees, which made a hard thud. My lips turned down, my sunken eyes blinked pitifully at him. "Master... I didn’t mean to say that... I don’t know why that came out of my mouth."

His expression remained cold and stern. At that moment, I knew I was finished. With no thought to prolong my suffering, "What part of my body would you like to rip off, my arms or limbs?" Tears streaked down my face.

I just realized now that his angry outburst is better than his cold unresponsive side.

"Did you call me a dumbass?" he tilted his head to his side.

At his words, the world tilted as I collapsed on the floor. ’This is always the best method to escape trouble.’

"Stand up, don’t make me repeat myself."

His harsh words were like hot needles popping my balloons. I tightened my eyes. Let me die here if I have to—I won’t move an inch.

Then, I heard footsteps approaching closer to us. Those mouthwatering aromas that I had perceived before became closer.

’Hmm, roasted meat, is that chicken soup? And that must be mashed potatoes. Hmm, I smell something spicy and delicious.’ I slowly pried one of my eyes open. I saw the maids setting the table.

’Is that a mutton leg?’ I licked my lower lips in anticipation.

I closed them again when I felt his gaze towards me.

"You can go now," he ordered the maids, who were casting surprised glances at me, before he turned to me with a smirk plastered on his face.

As soon as the maids left the room, I heard the tearing of meat. I cried inwardly. Damn my mouth for uttering nonsense—now I’m going to starve. It smells so good.

Just then, something was shoved into my mouth. I furrowed my brows as I bit into it. The savory flavour exploded inside my mind. It was the mutton. It was well-cooked, soft and chewy, with the right flavour and a little spiciness. I chewed on the meat, and every bite was rewarding and an exceptional fireworks.

Before I knew it, the meat had disappeared down my throat. I licked my lips, before pretending to be unconscious again.

I felt another meat hovering just above my lips. ’I hate teasing.’ I lifted my head up, taking a mouthful of the meat. I wanted to taste the meat first, so I proceeded to lick it. I frowned as I could not taste any spiciness.

’What is this? Let me take a bite.’ I chewed on the meat. However, I noticed the meat was plump and soft. ’Are those teeth? I’m eating a mutton head?’

I opened my eyes to see what the stubborn meat was that wouldn’t cut no matter how hard I tried.

’Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit!’

AARGH!
