Chapter 92: Morning Glory

Ave woke up at the first break of dawn with the morning birds singing outside the window, gentle breeze blowing the curtains and making them sway. She opened her eyes and tried unsuccessfully to move away from whatever was holding her down. She frowned as she realized she wasn’t lying on the bed alone, and someone else was there with her holding her tightly against his body.

Ave would have panicked if she didn’t immediately perceive his familiar scent she could never mistake for anyone else. She could barely remember what had happened last night and how she had ended up sleeping in such a position with Lucian.

She had her head on his chest and one of her legs draped over his... oh shit! His crotch which, as expected of a man, was already full of the ’morning glory’ she’d learned happened to all males in the morning. She could feel it vividly against her leg, where her dress had moved up. He had one of his hands on her knee, pinning her leg there, and his other arm wrapped tightly around her waist from underneath.

As she quickly tried to move, he tightened his hold, mumbling something in his sleep, though she only caught the last words: "... Stay like this."

Stay like this?! Was he kidding her or what? How could she stay like this when he was holding her leg to his crotch and causing her heart to slam forcefully against her ribs like it would burst out? She had never laid on the same bed with a man in such a position where she could feel his member. And as he didn’t let her go and held her there, she felt herself recall a memory she’d done everything in her childhood to forget until now.

A flash from the memory came through her mind, and it caused her breath to still immediately.

In her mind’s eye, she saw a huge shadow coming toward her on the bed where she had pretended to be asleep in her room when she was no more than ten. "Come on, sweetheart..." the voice echoed in her mind, and before she could dwell on it and cause herself to panic, she quickly snapped out of it by inhaling the calming scent of the man holding her.

Ave moved her arm and tapped Lucian’s stomach. "Let go of me," she mumbled, tapping him again when he didn’t open his eyes.

He groaned and tightened his grip, pulling her so that she was completely on top of him, causing her to cry out in surprise. She could feel his erection pressing between her legs.

She gasped at the feel of it. It was so strange, but it surprisingly felt nice to feel it between her legs, where she had been feeling strangely tense since yesterday, longing for something to stop the pulling sensation in her lower abdomen. She had no idea how to get rid of the feeling and sensation, and now that he had pulled her on top of him, with his erection poking her right there, she didn’t know why her body instinctively moved toward it, seeking something she had no idea how to achieve. She let out a small moan, her hands gripping his shirt when he moved, and it poked her right there again.

’What the hell is wrong with me?’ she snapped at herself to stop this nonsense right now. This wasn’t her doing, she knew it. Her body had stopped responding to any intimate actions after what had happened to her in her childhood. At least, that was the only reason she gave herself when she never felt any pull of sexual attraction to anyone since she’d hit puberty. She hadn’t even tried to find a cure or another reason for it, as she preferred it that way because the thought of ever getting intimate with a man or anybody always repulsed her to the core.

However, now that she was in the arms of this perverted prince who had woken up with an erection and was trying to mess with her body, even though her own body was responding to it, she didn’t like it or want to welcome anything of the sort into their relationship that was nothing but two people wanting to achieve the same goals.

This strange feeling must be coming from Selene’s body and not hers, because she would never want this or find it nice to have a man’s erection between her legs. With those thoughts, she tried to wriggle free, but it just made their bodies rub together in places she would rather not think about any man touching.

Her body started to tingle, and she couldn’t help the little moan that escaped from her lips again. Oh God, that actually feels... nice!

"Lucian!" she yelled at him in annoyance.

He snapped his eyes open and looked at her, shocked. His expression quickly changed to his trademark emotionless one as he realized the position they were in. He cursed under his breath, and then she felt his arms loosen from around her. Without wasting any more time, Ave rolled off his body to the other side and sat up, adjusting her dress properly and schooling the flush on her face and the heat that had pooled up inside her.

"That was very inappropriate of you to do, Your Highness," Ave said, her voice laced with displeasure, glaring at him from the side where he was still lying on the bed, staring blankly up at the ceiling, one hand gripping his forehead.

"You asked me to sleep beside you last night. You should be the one to take responsibility for awakening not just me but something that should have remained as it has for years—dead and unfeeling, until you." His deep, husky morning voice reached Ave and made her shiver slightly before she frowned and turned to him.

She didn’t recall asking him to sleep next to her, nor did she even know when he’d brought her back, not to his palace but the main palace. All she recalled was being bitten by a snake and then dreaming about her mother, a woman she didn’t know but missed deeply in her heart.

"What did I awaken apart from you?" she asked curiously as she stared at him. Did he mean his heart? Had he finally fallen in love with her? Ave thought in excitement. Wow, who would have thought sleeping and cuddling was all it took to achieve her goal and...

Ave’s thoughts trailed off as he suddenly sat up on the bed and looked down. Her eyes followed his gaze and landed on the obvious bulge that had now formed in his trousers. Her eyes widened, along with heat rising up her neck.

"You’ve awakened something that should be left alone, Aveline," she heard him say as his eyes moved from his erection to look at her, his lips pulling up at the side and his eyes glimmering with amusement. "What shall we do about this now?" he asked her, as if she were supposed to know.

Ave, who had thought she had achieved her goal, now stared at him in nervous disbelief. "H-how should I know? It’s not in my body for me to know how to handle that," she muttered. But the way she said the words made Lucian narrow his eyes as he interpreted another meaning behind them.

"Hmmm," he hummed. "Not in your body. You can take responsibility for it by taking it into your body," he breathed, his eyes boring intensely into hers, making her gulp. Without hesitation, she scrambled out of the bed before he could think of crossing the line again. She moved far away from the bed and cleared her throat.

"W-what are we doing in the main palace?" she asked, changing the topic and trying to distract him from the conversation about his erection. She could feel her heart rate increasing with each passing second.

Lucian got the hint and accepted it without drifting back to that intimate topic. The last thing he wanted was to frighten her away or lose control of himself and give in to his urges to have her right here and now.

"The Emperor wants us to stay here until the birthday preparation and ceremony are over," he told her as he moved to the edge of the bed and grabbed his shoes, which he had kicked off last night. "The guests began arriving yesterday evening, and we missed welcoming them, which will be questioned when we arrive for breakfast this morning. Tell me, Aveline, what excuse shall we give the Emperor without giving away what you made us do last night?" he asked nonchalantly as he put his shoes back on and fastened them.

Ave, who had moved away from him, was astonished that he was asking for her opinion on what excuse to give. She didn’t know why, but even just that made her heart tremble.

She cast her eyes upward and tried to think of an excuse that wouldn’t give them away or make the Empress suspicious. Her blue eyes brightened. "Since we left the palace without passing by the first gate where anyone from the main palace would notice us, you can tell them I wasn’t feeling well. The princesses know of my injured hand and how I fell into the river, so they would believe I fell ill. That should do." Ave smiled.

Lucian knew the Emperor wouldn’t mind their absence, but the Empress would surely want to know. Even though he didn’t have to tell her where he had been, he had asked Ave only to make her loosen up after the intimate topic, which had caused her to move away.

He hummed again and stood up from the bed. "Then you better start preparing. You’ll be called for breakfast soon." He turned to leave, but Ave called him, "Lucian..."

He turned his head over his shoulder. "Yes?"

"If the guests from the other kingdoms supported you to be the next Emperor, would the current Emperor agree to it, even after you were removed from the line of succession?" she asked curiously. Though that wasn’t why she had called him, she didn’t know why she had.

Lucian was silent for a while before replying, "If the majority of the royal guests from the other kingdoms approve of a prince to take the throne, the Emperor can do nothing but approve of it, especially when it comes from the more powerful kingdoms," he informed her.

"If you were to take the throne, would you still destroy all the people of the lands?" she asked. When he didn’t immediately reply, she held her breath. Though she had not liked how the villagers had treated Lucian in the past, she didn’t want anything to happen to them after spending some time with them yesterday.

"I do not know," was all he said. And Lucian indeed did not know at this point. He began to walk away but stopped again to say, "Aveline, with the guests here now... try not to act like yourself in their presence. The Emperor will not hesitate to behead any person who disobeys his important guests, especially those from Banzai Kingdom. They have equal rights over the Empire just as the Emperor has."

Done talking, he left the chamber and closed the door behind him.
