Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 90: Bitten
Chapter 90: Bitten
When Lucian sped back the way he had followed, he had almost ridden past Ave on the road sides until he saw movement from the corner of his eye and pulled his reins to stop his horse. Looking to the side, he heard her small cries and saw her lying curled up on the ground with her hands grabbing her thigh.
In a flash, Lucian dismounted his horse and hurried towards her in long strides. "Aveline?" he called as he crouched down beside her and pulled her into a sitting position, only to hear her cry out in pain. When he glanced at her face, her eyes were filled with tears, and her expression was that of someone in agony, with her cheeks flushed.
"What’s wrong?" he asked as he tried to inspect her body for any signs of injuries, as it seemed she must have fallen off the horse. But she flinched when he touched her leg.
"Something... something bit me here," she sobbed, grabbing her throbbing thigh that was so painful it was starting to feel numb. She could hardly keep her voice steady, the panic rising in her chest, and her heart was beating so fast with heat rising inside her. She had been riding the horse when she felt something like a pinch on her thigh before it turned unbearably painful, and she fell off the horse before she could even look or control herself.
Ave could barely see anything in the darkness but the glow of Lucian’s amber eyes. However, she felt his hands slip under her knee and raise it while he tried to pull up her dress. She quickly tried to pull away despite the pain, but he held on firmly and warned, "Don’t move. I can feel something in your dress, and unless you want whatever it is to bite you again, let me get it out."
Ave wouldn’t want to experience such pain in another part of her body, so she sat still and allowed him to do whatever he needed to do, biting down on her lower lip to keep from crying out. Despite the pain, she was aware of his hand slipping inside her dress toward where the thing had bitten her, before she heard him curse under his breath and quickly retrieve his hand.
She was about to ask him what was wrong when she felt his hand now tucked inside her dress pocket and then saw him pull out something in his hand. Though Ave couldn’t see clearly, her eyes had adjusted to the darkness enough to see something like a small long stick moving in his hand.
"Wh-what is that?" she panicked as her eyes fell on it. She then heard Lucian reply in a grim voice, "It’s a Dark Sarkun snake, it’s still in its infant stage. I wonder how it got in there," he said as he stared at the little snake wiggling in his hand. Though the snake might be this small, no one knew better than Lucian how painful and poisonous it’s bite could be. It could bite through anything when it felt threatened.
Lucian snapped his fingers, and the little snake burned into ashes that slid down his fingers.
Ave frowned in worry, "I’ve never heard of such snakes. And if it’s a baby snake, why the hell is it hurting so much and making my leg numb?" she questioned as the pain was now slowly moving to another spot on her thigh.
"They’re found in damp, dark places, especially dirty ones. However, they’re one of the most dangerous snakes, big or small. Now, keep still so I can extract the venom from your leg," he remarked, already pulling her dress up to her waist to expose her bitten thigh to his eyes.
If Ave were in her normal senses, she would have felt shy and embarrassed that he had pulled up her dress and now exposed her stockinged legs, but she wasn’t in a condition to feel anything but pain. She didn’t even move back when his hands pulled down her stockings, and then he leaned down his head towards her thigh.
The snake had bitten her in her upper thigh close to her inner part, and when he leaned down, his head bent down on her lower abdomen. Ave stiffened as she felt one of his hands come around to hold her waist and his other hand flatten on the ground before she felt his warm mouth close on her thigh where she had been bitten. She felt his teeth, which almost felt like fangs, bite the spot before he closed his lips on her skin and sucked on it, causing the heat in her body to burn even more. She bit down hard on her lip to keep from moaning.
Ave’s hands instinctively went to hold his hair as he kept sucking on her skin, to the point she couldn’t feel the pain anymore, just his warm mouth. When she thought she didn’t want him to pull away because it numbed the pain but brought another sensation that made her stomach turn and her muscles tense, he pulled back, turning his head to the side and spitting out the affected blood and venom he’d sucked out.
Ave felt herself release a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding until his head was away from her lower part. She glanced at him with unfocused eyes, but he wasn’t even looking at her—his eyes were lowered to her thigh. She felt his fingers tenderly trace the spot, and then, as if he thought it wasn’t enough, he leaned down again. But this time, he didn’t bite gently. She felt his teeth sink into her skin, and her hand flew to his hair, her fingers grabbing it tightly as she felt the pain of his bite.
"L-Lucian..." she cried out his name in pain. "That hurts..."
His head was away from her thigh before she could register what had happened and what the second bite was for. When she glanced at him, she noticed how his eyes burned with such intensity that her breath hitched for a moment before he looked down and quietly began to pull her stockings back on and pull her dress down.
"Y-you didn’t spit out the second venom you just sucked out..." Ave pointed out in a small voice that didn’t sound like her own. She cleared her throat. She was grateful it was dark, and he wouldn’t notice her face, as she was certain she must be as red as a tomato by now.
"It’s not going to harm me," came Lucian’s nonchalant voice as he finished adjusting her dress to cover her thighs. Though it was dark, he could see everything clearly, including her inner wear when he’d pulled her dress up to her waist and her milky fair skin. If only she could see his face, she would’ve noticed the two sharp fangs peeking out from the sides of his mouth and the trail of blood that stained his lips red.
"Is it still painful?" Lucian inquired quietly.
Though she could still feel slight discomfort in her thigh, it wasn’t unbearably painful anymore, but the numbness was still there. However, she shook her head, "It’s no longer painful." Then they both fell silent.
The night surrounded them, and they were sitting between the side bushes that concealed them from the road, where Lucian’s horse snorted. The sounds of crickets could be heard along with the distant hoots of an owl, echoing around them.
"We should leave," Lucian said as he stood up from the ground. Then, closing his eyes, his fangs slowly disappeared back into his mouth. While Ave tried to stand, Lucian looked down at his index finger where a trace of her blood could be seen, and without hesitation, he put the finger into his mouth and licked off the blood. He closed his eyes and inhaled the lingering scent of her blood before opening them again, his eyes flickering between black and gold.
Ave, who had managed to stand on her feet, felt herself falling back down again as her leg felt numb, but before she could fall, a hand shot out and wrapped around her waist to steady her. "Easy there, will you?" Lucian whispered softly as he pulled her towards his chest.
Ave had never been bitten by a snake before, and she never thought it would make her feel this weak and wobbly. She leaned on Lucian for support, even though she wanted to be far away from him after everything he had been making her feel today.
He had been messing with her senses, making her feel strange. Not only had he momentarily traumatized her by cutting off someone’s hand in the market, he had ruined her mood by yelling at her while they were eating, made her carry bags, and now she was bitten by a baby snake that made her feel light-headed and dizzy.
"Why is the world moving around?" Ave muttered as she leaned her head against his chest where she could feel his steady heartbeat against her ear.
"Dark Sarkun snakes can cause hallucinations and dizziness. We need to get you back," he remarked as he leaned down and scooped her up into his arms like she weighed nothing. Ave’s arms automatically wrapped around his neck, her head leaning on him.
"I don’t know about hallucinating, but I am dizzy and nauseous. How did that little thing get into my dress..." she muttered in wonder.
"It must have gotten into your dress in Wudville village," Lucian replied softly as he reached his horse. In one swift movement, he placed Ave on it first before he climbed up behind her, just as he saw Zane’s horse speeding back to them with Zane astride it.
Lucian adjusted Ave in front of him so she sat sideways with her body leaning on him, her hand gripping his shirt. When he was sure she was comfortable, he snapped the reins to meet up with Zane.
"Your Highness, what is wrong? We arrived at the palace, and a few minutes later I saw Moon galloping back to—oh, what happened to Her Highness?" Zane inquired as his eyes fell on Ave leaning in front of Lucian, her face unnaturally flushed in the light of the lamp he held.
"She got bitten by a Dark Sarkun baby snake," Lucian informed him as he sped up his horse with Zane following closely beside him.
"How is she now?" he asked, concerned. Zane had come to find himself liking Ave for Lucian after what he had witnessed her do today. She was a complete opposite of Selene, and he would rather this woman remain by the prince’s side forever if possible, she would help him in a lot of ways.
"She will be fine," came Lucian’s curt, firm reply.
In no time, they arrived at the palace gates. However, before they could enter, Zane quickly informed him, "Your Highness, the guests from the Banzai kingdom and a few others have arrived this evening, and a report has arrived from the main palace requesting you and your wife to move to the main palace until the Emperor’s birthday ceremony is over."
