Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 55: Misinterpretation
Chapter 55: Misinterpretation
Inside the second prince’s chamber, where he sat in front of a dim lamp while he watched his injured arm close up, Lucian’s mind was consumed with thoughts he couldn’t seem to place his hands on.
After the day the woman in Selene’s body had punched and scratched his face, he’d noticed how the marks hadn’t magically healed faster like his body used to, and the scratch marks had taken days to heal like a normal person. Just like the arrow wound in that forest, they had not healed faster, and he’d thought it was because of his poison and that his body was losing its ability to heal faster like before.
However, now that he was pierced in the arm, the wound was closing up so fast it made him wonder why his body was changing after that woman had stepped into his life.
She wasn’t only messing up his mind with how she behaved so shamelessly, but she made him wonder, since he’d found out she wasn’t Selene, what she was doing here and how she had even ended up in his wife’s body.
When she’d said she hadn’t used magic to swap their souls, he’d found himself believing her. However, he still held his doubts about her. The only reason he wasn’t killing her yet or reporting her to the Emperor was because he wanted to know if the Empress had something to do with this and if the woman was working for the Empress just like Selene.
If the Empress had something to do with this, it meant she was involved in magic, and if he could figure out what she intended to do by swapping his wife’s soul, he could trap her.
If it were the time when he was blindly devoted and cared about his wife, he wouldn’t have hesitated to kill the imposter in her body and burn her alive for how much she was irritating and messing with his mind. She was so disrespectful and had no regard for him whatsoever.
And the moment he found out she was working with the Empress, just like Selene, he sure wouldn’t hesitate to finish her off and rid himself of a troublesome woman. Lately, he’d been too consumed with thoughts of her that he hadn’t had the chance to even think about his plans of rebellion and ending the royals.
Lucian sighed as he watched the wound in his arm now closed and cleared completely. He was about to stand up from his seated position when a slight knock came from the door before it cracked open and Zane walked in, looking exhausted and slightly breathless.
"Have you also taken the habit of running around the palace just like that crazy woman?" came Lucian’s deadpan voice as he pulled on a clean shirt.
Zane laughed dryly before he said, "I wish I was just running around the palace on my own accord, but I ran here to escape the fourth prince. That young man should have come as a woman with how much he talks."
"What happened?" Lucian asked. Even though he didn’t care about any of his brothers, he didn’t dislike the fourth prince, as the boy had never done anything to insult him like the rest. However, he also didn’t like him.
"Since he stepped into the palace, he kept me outside asking me to give him tips on how to be like you. He said since you are not willing to talk to him or even acknowledge his presence, he could only talk to me and find out ways to become like you," Zane said as he walked towards the desk in the room and half-sat on the edge with his arms crossed against his chest.
"Ignore him; he’ll get tired and stop bothering you," Lucian said nonchalantly as he buttoned up his shirt. He had always tried to avoid the young prince for this same reason, and if that woman hadn’t brought the princesses into his palace, the prince would have never had access to enter.
"I doubt he’ll ever get tired," Zane said with a sigh before he changed the topic and cut to the chase of why he’d come here. "By the way, the expert in foreign languages has arrived. He is currently in the waiting chamber right now."
Lucian paused for a moment and was about to ask who had summoned the expert before he recalled he had ordered it because he wanted someone to interpret the strange words that woman had been using that he’d never heard before. He wanted to know if she was using some secret codes just like spies used to do.
"Hmm," he hummed before he grabbed the parchment he’d written the words on and walked out of the chamber, with Zane following closely behind him towards the waiting chamber.
However, as they walked out into the open halls of the palace, the entire corridor was filled with the sounds of echoing laughter coming from the unused banquet hall at the end of the hall. Lucian’s footsteps paused as he turned to Zane with a questioning look.
"She’s using the hall for the dance practice with the princesses," Zane provided as he saw the prince’s expression.
Ever since the day Lucian had been exiled to this palace, this was the first time it held a lively atmosphere with laughter. His palace was usually quiet, with the maids not even making any sounds while they worked until they retired to their quarters.
He had never even had any guests, and hearing the echoing sounds of laughter made his frown relax a bit before he resumed his way to the waiting chamber with a blank expression.
When they arrived at the chamber, a young man was seated stiffly on the chair close to the empty fireplace, but upon hearing the sound of the door open, his head snapped up. Upon recognizing the infamous amber eyes of the prince—rumored to be bestowed upon him by the devil himself—the man hurriedly fell to his knees and bowed his head down.
When he greeted Lucian, his voice was shaky. "Y-your Highness... please spare me, I came here immediately I heard you had summoned me." He said, while in truth, the man had tried to flee when he heard it was the cursed prince who had summoned him, until he was apprehended by Lucian’s men and dragged here.
He had never seen the rumored cursed prince but had heard all sorts of scary things about him, and when he was being dragged here, he’d prayed to the heavens for protection, as he had no idea why he was being called. Rumors had said that whoever set foot into the doomed palace never came out alive, as the prince used them for sacrifice on the full moon nights.
Thinking about it now, the man shook so hard Lucian could hear his bones quivering.
"Your Highness... please don’t kill me, I have a wife and four children. Without me, they will starve to death. I am only a humble scholar," he pleaded.
"Raise your head," Lucian said emotionlessly as he looked down at the man before him. He was already used to people fearing him, and the man’s actions were not a surprise to him. However, this time, he couldn’t simply walk away from the man as he usually did when people acted like this as he needed some answers.
The man nervously raised his head at the same time Lucian was tucking his hand into his pocket to retrieve the parchment but he thought he was about to retrieve a dagger or a blade to kill him and quickly bowed again.
"Please spare my humble soul. My six children will starve to death without me!" he pleaded.
Zane raised a brow as he scoffed, "I thought you said four children. How did they suddenly become six?"
The man trembled even more as he thought they’d discovered his lies. He had no children and had lied in the heat of the moment. "I... I... I mean—"
"Cut the crap and look at these words and tell me what they mean," Lucian interjected as he handed the parchment paper to him, not interested in any of the man’s words about his family.
"Huh?" The man looked taken aback for a moment when he saw the parchment being shoved in his face. However, realizing he had been asked to look at it, he quickly sat down on the floor and took the parchment with shaky hands.
He looked through the seven words written on it, and a nervous frown settled on his face as he swallowed hard. Apart from the word "fucker," which he’d heard meant "warrior," and the word jerk which he knew meant to "pull" but he had no idea what the rest were, as he’d never heard of them before. However, to save his neck, he decided to act like he knew them.
1. Fucker.
2. Jerk.
3. McDo.
4. Star in the box.
5. Fried burger.
6. Asshole.
7. Motherfucking.
Clearing his throat, he said, "Fucker is a new meaning for a warrior, Your Highness, and motherfucking means mother warrior."
Zane, who stood beside Lucian, gave him a look of "I told you so," but Lucian ignored him and asked, "What about the rest?"
Clearing his voice again, he said, "Jerk means when something is stuck, and you pull it out by force."
"McDo... McDo is another word for killing," the man said confidently while masking his fear.
Lucian’s eyes quickly hardened. McDo meant killing? Who was she planning to kill? Him? Was she also like Selene?
With those thoughts, his hands clenched automatically.
The man continued, "Star in the box is a way of saying you caught something special and put it in a box. While fried burger means fried bugus. And asshole... means when you bury something in a deep hole, Your Highness. All these words seem to me like some secret way of saying something," he added to appease the prince so he would be let off.
"What do you mean?" Lucian asked, scowling down at the man who trembled and looked down.
"I mean it seems the person who said this is trying to pass some messages. They mentioned warrior and then burying something, and then killing and eating fried bugus, and pulling something..." he said shakily. Since the prince had asked him to interpret the words, he had done it in a way he knew would take the Cursed Prince off him and send him in search of the person who had said those strange words.
"Are you certain everything you said is the right thing?" Lucian asked as he regarded the man with his piercing eyes while deep down in his mind he was boiling with rage, realizing that he had almost been tricked by that woman in Selene’s body.
When the man nodded, Lucian’s eyes darkened, and he stormed out of the chamber, Zane following behind him, dismissing the scholar as they left.
