Chapter 53: Special dress

Minutes later, Ave paced around outside the corridor of Lucian’s chamber, worried and anxious for him. She could still recall the blood that had oozed out of his arm when the sword was pulled out and how his face had hardened instead of showing any signs of pain. He hadn’t even winced one bit when he was bleeding so much that she’d felt like passing out at the thought of the pain he must have been in.

She had rushed to him in a flash and grabbed his arm to try to stop the bleeding with her handkerchief. However, Lucian had jerked away from her and gritted his teeth in irritation when she tried to approach him again. He had warned dangerously, "Haven’t I warned you to stay away from me? Come any closer, and I’ll rip you apart."

"It’s not my fault that you let your guard down for a moment," she’d said defensively, but her words only made him look angrier.

"Not your fault? Then are you saying it was mine?" He gritted. "Why do you have to be so loud all the time after I’ve warned you not to ever address me by my name again?" He’d said, causing everyone to look at her in accusation.

"Yeah, whatever. At least let me help you stop the bleeding before the doctor arrives," she’d said as she tried to reach out to him again, but this time he didn’t even spare her another glance and walked away into the palace.

Ave had followed closely behind him while ordering a random guard to call the doctor, but Lucian had called out behind him, "I don’t need a doctor! And keep that woman away from my chambers!" He ordered the guards, who were quick to obey and stopped Ave from passing the corridors she now stood in.

Ave had tried to persuade the guards to let her pass, as she was worried about Lucian, but nothing she said made them budge from their position. They stood like statues on either side of the corridor with their spears crossed.

She had been informed by a maid that Lucian had ordered a normal mealtime in the palace and that her breakfast had been kept for her. That revelation alone made her feel even worse about the fact that he wasn’t seeing a doctor and wasn’t allowing her in. What if he bled to his death? What if he got an infection?

The cut had been so deep, she’d seen how the sword had gone into his arm, and not seeing a doctor wasn’t going to help. Just last night when he’d helped her with the corset, she’d thought he’d no longer keep her away from his chambers, but it seemed nothing had changed.

Ave paced the corridors for some time before deciding to just leave as no matter what she said or did, the guards seemed hellbent on keeping her away from the chamber.

She’d come back to check up on him later, that was, if he hadn’t bled to death due to his stubbornness. She still had a dance to teach the Princesses and a spy to keep an eye on. She’d seen Catherine arrive a while ago and was now sitting with the Princesses in the parlor room.

Even though she was worried sick about Lucian and didn’t want him to die now when she had yet to leave this world, she couldn’t neglect the job assigned to her by the Empress. She only had five days to teach them the dance, and she wasn’t yet sure if that would be enough for them to master a Tiktok dance before the deadline.

Not to mention she had yet to ask them to summon the royal dressmaker to give a description of the kind of dress they’d be wearing at the ceremony to present the dance to everyone. She wanted everything to be in perfection so these ancient people would have a taste of modern life.

They’d thank her for this if they knew how they’d gotten to have a try of something from the future.

Her favorite TikTok dance would make it down in history before it would even be invented. With those thoughts, Ave smiled, but the smile was quick to fall when she glanced toward Lucian’s chamber.

"I hope you won’t bleed to death before the day ends," she muttered to herself, and then, glaring at the unmoving guards, she huffed and jogged away from there.

Ave first went to her room to remove the corset so she would be able to move while teaching the dance steps. Lydia helped her out of the corset and then stepped out to bring her breakfast. She needed food before anything else.

However, while Lydia was away, Ave walked to the room where Selene’s clothes were hung. She looked around for anything comfortable enough for her to wear but couldn’t find any dress that would suit her for the dance.

"I can’t believe she didn’t have anything less fancy." She scoffed as she browsed through the array of different types of fancy, uncomfortable dresses. How could one live their lives possessing only dresses without comfortable pants?

’Tsk, I can never get used to such life.’

Ave was about to give up and wear anything else when her eyes fell on a plain blue dress at the corner of the closet.

She picked it up. It was the dress Lydia had picked for her among the late third consort’s clothes when she spent the night in the main palace after the Empress killed that poor girl and ruined her dress with the blood. Recalling the image from that night sent a shiver down her spine and she quickly dismissed the thought from her mind and focused on the dress in her hands. She had felt comfortable enough in it the last time she wore it.

Ave decided to wear it again this time, at least it was better than all these fancy tight dresses. She put it on and tied her hair in a ponytail in front of the mirror. She had already accepted the fact that she would no longer be seeing her real face in mirrors anymore.

When she was done preparing, she glanced at the dress in resignation. Though it was better than anything else here, it wasn’t as comfortable as wearing a dance jogger pants and a crop top to practice her dance moves. If only she could get her favorite dance jogger pants and—WHAT THE HELL!!

Ave’s eyes widened in shocked disbelief as the plain blue dress suddenly transformed in the blink of an eye into the same jogger pants she owned in 2024 and had worn whenever she wanted to practice any of the TikTok dance steps.

"You must be kidding," she muttered in disbelief as she swirled around in front of the mirror to see if she was seeing things or if her eyes were playing tricks on her. No way in hell could this be happening! But then, no way in hell could it be possible for her to transmigrate into someone else’s body in ancient times, which meant any freaking thing was possible for as long as she was in this era.

However, she hoped this had nothing to do with magic, the last thing she wanted was to get beheaded for something she didn’t even know about.

Ave thought with a pondering look on her face before she shrugged it off. "It must be my guardian Angel’s doing, Selene had no magic and it’s not possible for me to have it. Perhaps the dress is something special..."

Back in the parlor room where the Princesses were waiting for their so-called dance teacher to come, they looked around in wonderment. None of them had expected the doomed palace to look this good. Though it wasn’t as grand and fancy as the main palace, it was good enough to make the Princesses relax and even drink the tea served to them by the servants.

"What is taking her so long?" Celeste asked no one in particular impatiently. It had taken a lot of convincing from Thalia to get her to step into the palace as she feared what she might find, and now that she saw that it was nothing like Ave had described when they were in the carriage, she felt more annoyed that the lowly slave had said all sorts of nonsense to scare them. Not to mention she was keeping them waiting for so long.

"Calm down, Princess Selene must be busy attending to Brother Lucian; he looked badly injured outside earlier," Thalia said.

"Hmph, he wouldn’t have been injured if she hadn’t dared address him by his name so loudly," scoffed Celeste, who had heard from the servants that the prince had gotten injured because of Selene.

"It wasn’t her fault," Thalia remarked as she gently sipped her tea.

Celeste frowned. "Why does it seem like you are starting to treat Selene nicely when you never paid her any attention in the past? You defend her all the time and even supported her when she dared suggest that the servants sit in our carriages."

"Yes, Celeste is right. You don’t defend us anymore and keep siding with a lowly slave," Isolde pouted.

Thalia had never exchanged words with Selene in the past because of how she treated Lucian whenever they came to join the royal dinner. She had noticed on some occasions how Selene would exchange smiling glances with the third prince, Caelan and had thought something was going on between them in secret. She had even tried to snoop around and find out if she was having an affair with her third older brother.

However, after that night when she stood up for Lucian and even spoke back to Alden, Thalia had begun to like her and would subconsciously defend her whenever the twins started to talk down on her.

"Who says I don’t defend you two anymore?" Thalia smiled at her two disheartened sisters. "You two are my sisters, and I would defend you at any given time if anyone dares to cross you, and Princess Selene hasn’t crossed you in any way, so I’m being nice to her."

Thalia watched as the twins’ faces brightened up at her words.

"We believe you, but if she does anything to bring us down again, you should stand on our side and show her that we are sisters and she can’t come between us," Isolde said, and when Thalia nodded her head, she smiled in satisfaction.

"Where is Brother Orion?" Celeste asked, as she hadn’t seen their brother come inside along with them.

"He is with that scary guard of the second prince outside. He’s trying to get him to train him personally, what a loser." Isolde scoffed as she sipped her tea and then sighed softly.

"When are we going to start this dance? I’m really starting to get tired of waiting." She then turned towards Catherine, who stood on one side and wasn’t allowed to sit, and ordered,

"You there, why are you standing here while the rest of the servants are outside? Go and look for Selene and tell her that we are..." She didn’t get to finish her words before Ave walked into the room, causing everyone to glance towards her with their eyes widened in astonishment at what she was wearing.
