Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 49: Lift the punishment
Chapter 49: Lift the punishment
Lucian had quickly sat up without thinking and reached out to her. He’d shaken her shoulders repeatedly while assuring her that what she was experiencing was a nightmare. It had taken a few minutes before her eyes snapped open, and she’d gazed at him with confusion before she reached out to touch his face.
Now that she was back to sleep as if she hadn’t woken him up, and her breathing seemed steady, Lucian gazed at her sleeping form with a blank expression.
Outside the window, the day was already breaking through the horizon. He could hear the morning birds singing and see the purplish dawn sky. And while the room wasn’t bright, he could see Ave’s face and her form perfectly.
He gazed at her for a few moments without thinking about anything until his eyes fell on the red marks on her neck, which were now fading—the marks he’d left on her skin when he’d strangled her.
He carefully reached out and moved her hair aside to use his index finger to trace the marks. Though he felt guilty for the harm he must have caused her, he thought she deserved it anyway. As his finger continued to trace her neck, the sleeping woman giggled before slapping his hand away.
"That’s ticklish." She laughed in her sleep and then began to chew her mouth like she was eating. "Don’t touch me while I eat. I want more McDonald’s fries and burgers, and one Starbucks..." she said in her sleep, causing Lucian to frown in confusion.
McDo what? he thought as he tried to make sense of whatever she was saying. What did that even mean?
’You jerk, she means she wants fried bugus,’ said his beast, using the term "jerk" again despite not knowing what it meant. Bugus was a well-known dish in their empire.
’Then what is Starbox and McDo?’ Lucian found himself asking his beast as if he were supposed to know what the woman was talking about.
’Maybe she means star in a box. You know, you’re living an outdated life—you don’t even know anything about what’s trending. Our wife must be a smart, updated woman,’ his beast boasted.
’She’s not our wife, but an imposter who’ll soon get herself killed,’ he replied as he stood up from the bed and then pulled the blanket over her body before he adjusted her head more properly on the pillow. Even though he didn’t like her and wanted her to stay away from him, he was grateful that he had gotten to sleep without experiencing any pain or discomfort because of her.
Once he made sure she was comfortable, he put his shirt back on and buttoned it up. However, before getting on with anything, he walked to the desk in the room that had some spare parchment and ink. Sitting down, he wrote down a few strange words he’d heard from the imposter living as Selene.
He didn’t know if the words meant some secret code for a plan she had for being in Selene’s body, so he had to be careful and write them down to find out.
1. Fucker.
2. Jerk.
3. McDo.
4. Star in the box.
5. Fried bugus.
6. Asshole.
7. Motherfucking.
Lucian wrote down the words in a way he thought was right, then let the ink dry before folding the parchment and tucking it inside his pocket. By the time he was done, the sky had brightened completely, and the woman on the bed had turned so that her head was off the pillow. The blanket had moved away from her body, her legs sprawled out on the bed, and her chemise had pulled up to reveal her smooth, milky thighs that caught his attention for a moment before his eyes moved up to her face.
Staring at her now, he remembered all the strange things she’d said to him.
’You messed with the wrong person, bitch! I, Aveline, will survive, and I will make it to 2024 and face-slap my damn family and Victoria!’ she’d said to him in the forest, but nothing had made sense to him then.
’Beasty, where I come from, short dresses are not a big deal. You can look.’
’I wish all this could be one big nightmare and that I would wake up the moment I close my eyes. Imagine having a life in 2024 and then, when things were happening the way I’ve dreamt of, I get plunged into an era I don’t belong in.’
An era she didn’t belong in? 2024? The more he thought he understood this woman, the more confusing it became. Looking at how she was sleeping now, one thing was certain to him; she didn’t come from their world. No lady, not even a commoner, would be this mannerless and unladylike even in their sleep.
But then, if she didn’t come from here, where was she from? 2024? Impossible. Either she was a good liar and pretender, or she was indeed insane.
Not bothering to pull the blanket over her body again, he quietly left the chamber and gently closed the door behind him. As he walked down the corridors where the servants were up and working already, everyone stopped what they were doing to make way for him.
Before he could walk outside, he spotted the maidservant who served Selene and stopped. The girl was going to change her direction when she saw him, but he called for her before she could run away like everyone else.
Lydia’s shoulders stiffened as she heard her name being called by the cursed prince. She had never spoken to him before, nor had she ever stood in close proximity to him. He was so scary that she avoided him as much as possible, but now that he had called her name with such authority, she reluctantly turned and began to walk toward him with her head bowed down and her hands in front of her.
When she stood before him, she had to will her body to stop shaking as she bowed to the waist to greet him.
"G-good morning, Your Highness..."
Lucian could sense her fear and see her trembling body, but he had no intentions of harming her as she hadn’t done anything worth killing yet, and so he went straight to the point of why he’d called her.
"Ever since your mistress woke up after the accident, have you noticed any differences from how she used to be before?" he asked, just to make certain that Selene wasn’t trying to play him by pretending with some magic to be another woman in his presence. If there was someone he knew would know anything about her plans, it would be this frightened maid.
Lydia’s eyes widened as she realized she wasn’t the only one who had noticed the changes in her mistress. "Her Highness is sick. Please do not punish her for acting strange," Lydia quickly fell to her knees, believing that the second prince was asking because the princess must have done something outrageous again.
Lucian got the answers he wanted. She was indeed another person. And before he walked away from the maid, he said, "Go and attend to her. She’s in the east chamber." And then he left, making his way straight outside the palace, where he spotted Zane, who walked up to him.
"You’re up late today," Zane commented as he came to stand beside the prince, his hands behind his back. He’d been outside even before dawn, believing Lucian would be out by then, judging by the fact he never sleeps at night.
"Hmm, I was asleep," he remarked nonchalantly, as if it was a normal thing for him.
Zane was taken aback. "Asleep? You slept again last night? How?"
"I slept beside her," he declared calmly. "She’s like an antidote in itself that takes the pain away for me, and I don’t know how it’s possible."
"You mean Princess Selene is—"
"She’s not Selene," he cut Zane off coldly before he resumed walking, with Zane automatically following closely behind him.
"What do you mean by ’she’s not Selene’?" Zane asked, confused.
Lucian explained what he’d discovered that made him believe she wasn’t Selene, while keeping out the revelation that she had powers like that of his mother.
"Then don’t you think we should expose her? What if she has bad intentions for being in Princess Selene’s body? I mean, what if it was the Empress’s doing?" Zane asked, genuinely concerned for the prince and the allowance of an imposter in his palace.
"That’s why we have to monitor her and see if she has any hidden motives. I can’t afford to have another woman who would ruin our next plan, just like Selene had done before." Lucian said, his expression now devoid of any emotions.
"And one more thing," Lucian said. "Lift the punishment I placed on Selene. Tell the kitchen staff to cook as usual and allow her hot water for bathing."
"..." Zane looked at him in disbelief, but then he nodded in understanding.
Lucian wasn’t done yet, he pulled out the parchment he’d written all the strange words he’d heard from the imposter and gave a final orders to Zane. "Find an expert who can interpret this words for me and tell me their meaning. It’s time I upgrade to something trending in the Empire."
