Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 46: Share a room
Chapter 46: Share a room
Lucian heard her question but didn’t immediately reply as something else caught his attention. A moment ago, before he bumped into her, he had been in a hurry to take the painkiller, and his chest had started to burn in a way that would soon become unbearable. But now, with her standing in front of him, the pain was disappearing—just like that night when they had shared a bed.
Ignoring the revelation about the pain, he replied to her question. "I don’t have to tell them. Very soon, you will give yourself away and get caught in the web of your lies. I don’t know why you used a forbidden power to swap Selene’s soul, but—"
"I didn’t use any powers, I..." Ave began to defend herself, but the second prince’s finger came to rest on her lips, silencing her. His skin was cold against her lip, and she looked up to meet his displeased eyes.
"Let me make one thing clear to you, woman," he said calmly, moving forward to stand so close to her that he could smell the flowery fragrance of her hair. Leaning down, he continued, "I hate being interrupted when I’m speaking. Like I was saying, I don’t know why you swapped your soul with Selene, but as long as you live through your lies of being her, don’t expect me to treat you any differently from how I treated her. And you must respect me and make sure to avoid me as much as possible if you want to live."
Saying that, he stepped back and looked into her eyes to see if she was listening but was caught in the depth of her orbs. For some reason, her deep blue eyes seemed lighter now. And when she parted her lips as if to retort, his gaze shifted to her pale pink lips. She had lips that would make any man want to kiss them, and he found himself staring at them for longer than he should have.
Ave, who noticed his eyes on her lips, frowned. ’Don’t tell me he plans to kiss me after his stupid warnings,’ she thought with a grimace. If he dared to lean in to kiss her, she would slap him silly until he forgot his own name. This wasn’t a movie where they’d kiss out of the blue after a fight.
"Don’t even think about it, man, or you’ll be sprawled on the floor in seconds," she warned.
Lucian snapped back to his senses and looked back at her eyes, which were now glaring at him.
"What won’t I try?" he asked, raising an amused brow at her defiant stance and the look in her eyes. What sort of woman was this one? He found himself wondering. And where had she come from?
Ave took on a boxing stance and said, "Weren’t you planning to kiss me just now? I said if you try it, you’ll find yourself sprawled on the floor in seconds just like I knocked your brother off the other day when he tried that with me."
Realization dawned on Lucian now. She had knocked Caelan out? No wonder he had a red bump on his forehead today that hadn’t faded yet. This one was going to get herself killed before she even knew it. She was supposed to act like Selene, but she was different in every way, and just like he’d noticed, many others would soon notice, and her lies would cost her life. That thought made his lips quirk into a smirk.
"Relax, I have no intention of kissing a mannerless woman like you. You can rest assured that as long as you live, you will not be desired by me."
He had tried to avoid Selene all this time, and now that he knew she wasn’t Selene but an imposter, he wanted nothing to do with her even more. She was a stranger in the body of a woman he had once loved and now hated, a disrespectful loose woman with all the characteristics he despised in women—not that he liked any women in particular anyway.
But this one was definitely the kind he would not tolerate for long. He moved to walk around her but then stopped again. "And one more piece of advice: if you want to last long, keep your powers hidden." He didn’t know why he told her that, but the fact that she had the same powers as his mother, which were rare even in Gina, made him not want those powers to be lost and perished.
"I don’t have any powers! Why won’t you believe me? Hey!" Ave called after him, but the prince had walked away in long strides and disappeared around the corner. Without thinking twice, she ran after him; she wasn’t done talking to him.
She hadn’t been the one to use those powers in the garden—it wasn’t her doing—and she didn’t want to get in trouble if anyone else found out. She hurried her steps, but by the time she reached the chamber the Empress had prepared for them to use for the night, the door had already been shut by Lucian.
"The heck, where will I sleep?" Ave hurried to the chamber and knocked repeatedly on the wooden door. "You don’t expect me to sleep out here, do you? Open the door!" she screamed, her voice echoing down the empty halls of the desolate corridors.
"Lucian, we are supposed to share this room, and you know—" her words were cut off when the door lock clicked and then creaked open, revealing Lucian standing at the frame, shirtless and covered in sweat. She already knew he was a tall and built man, standing on strong legs, and he certainly was male in every aspect. She couldn’t help but admire his broad shoulders filling the door frame, black hair poured down his strong packed torso and shoulders.
However, when she looked back at his face, she was taken aback by his sickly appearance. He had looked normal when they had spoken, but now his lips were pale, and his eyes were slightly red.
What was wrong with him? Ave thought as she stared at his pale face.
He had to blink repeatedly before his eyes focused on her, and once they did, he said, "Why do you have to be so loud and annoying?"
"How am I being loud when you are locking me out in this scary corridor?" she asked, and without giving him the chance to attempt to lock her out or say anything else, she pushed her way into the dimly lit room. She had only succeeded because Lucian had allowed her, and as soon as she entered, he locked the door behind them and strode toward the bed to sit at the edge of it.
"Since you’ve pushed your way in, then we’ll be sleeping together," he said, looking up at her from where he sat. He had wanted to endure the pain and keep her out, but when he walked away from her and entered the room, the unbearable pain had returned. And when he stood beside her again, it had faded.
Lucian would rather have her near than endure the pain again, so he would have to tolerate having this loud woman in his space for the night.
Ave smiled nervously as she glanced at the man already making himself comfortable on the side of the bed. "You don’t mean we will be sharing a bed, do you?" she asked, not liking the idea at all. Though she’d slept on his bed that night, he had been unconscious.
"What does it look like?" he deadpanned as he pulled the blanket up to his waist. "If you don’t want to share the bed, you can feel free to sleep in the corridor." Though he wished she would climb into bed quickly and ease his pain, he didn’t show it.
Ave scoffed as she made her way toward the other side of the bed. "I am not sleeping outside while you enjoy the cozy room!" She flung her shoes away and climbed into the bed beside him. Even though she wanted to rid herself of the corset and the tight dress she was currently wearing, she didn’t want to change in front of Lucian.
The bed was big enough to fit four people, and Ave laid down on the blanket without pulling it over herself since Lucian was under it. She laid face-up, staring at the high ceiling with a huge unlit chandelier hanging from it.
The room was so quiet that she could hear the thudding of her heart and the sound of her uneasy breathing. Lucian’s scent was all over the place, and it almost felt like he had been laying on the side she was in now before he’d come and opened the door for her earlier.
She stole a glance in his direction, but his back was turned to her, his long black hair spilling across the bed. Was he already asleep? she thought, but did nothing to find out.
The window was left ajar, and a gust of breeze blew the curtains gently.
Ave tossed and turned, unable to find a comfortable position with the corset on.
"If you keep turning like that, I’ll throw you out of the chamber," came Lucian’s deep, husky voice. "Take it off if it’s so uncomfortable, and stop disturbing my sleep," he advised quietly.
