Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 216: "Come Baby."
Chapter 216: "Come Baby."
Deciding to dismiss those thoughts from his mind as he noticed Ave studying his face, he moved to close the window before turning back and holding her hand. "Come Baby, let’s take a short nap to catch up on the sleep we lacked." He pulled her to the bed, addressing her with one of the modern endearments he’d memorized.
Ave stood at the side of the bed and began to take off the pins in her hair and all the other gold adorning her body while her husband watched her from the bed, where he had lain down with his hand behind his head on the pillow, his arms bulging with veins and strength as he bent them like that to support his head. He was only wearing a white vest and loose black trousers, and his long hair was in a disheveled state around his head as he stared at her. His stare made her blush for no reason and made her clumsy as she dropped the necklace instead of putting it on the nightstand. Pursing her lips as he chuckled at her clumsiness, she glared at him and bent down to pick up what she’d dropped.
When she was done, she slowly crawled up on the bed beside him and laid on her back as he did.
They laid there in silence, staring at the ceiling before Ave broke the silence when she recalled she wanted to ask him some things.
"When we first arrived here, King Talinor said something about how you’d have gotten here sooner had you traveled in your other form. What did he mean by that?" she asked as she turned her head to his side, where he stared at the ceiling.
"I travel faster when I am alone, that’s what he meant," he told her quietly.
Ave frowned suspiciously. Could it be that Lucian was part of whatever these Nazia people were?
"What were the royals arguing about in the dining hall this morning?" she asked curiously, as she had wondered that, but because it was in their language, she hadn’t understood it.
"It’s nothing you should worry about," he told her curtly as he closed his eyes so that she wouldn’t push the matter any further to make him tell her things he wasn’t supposed to tell her yet.
Ave didn’t like his answers to her questions. She turned on her side so she could face him. She noticed his closed eyes but knew he wasn’t sleeping. "Lucian?" she called his name softly, and when he opened his eyes and turned his head to her, she stared deeply into his amber eyes before asking, "What are you hiding from me?"
Ave had a feeling he was hiding a lot from her—about himself and about the people here. He knew something but wasn’t telling her, and she hated to think that they had secrets between them when they had become this close. She didn’t want any secrets in this relationship. Whatever was discussed at breakfast had something to do with him and them. Not to mention she was yet to even know who he truly was.
Lucian looked into her blue eyes. He couldn’t tell her everything, but the way she was looking at him made him hate to avoid her question or even lie to her. Thus, he told her the part she asked about.
"There will be a moon festival tomorrow. It’s a traditional ceremony for the people of Nazia, and they do not welcome people from other places to be in their land at times like that, so they want me to send you and the rest away from the land until it is over."
Ave sat up on the bed. Moon festival? she thought. "Was that why they were arguing with you this morning? Did you agree to send us away?" she asked. She would never leave here without her husband, not when another woman seemed to claim she loved him.
Lucian saw the panic in her eyes as she sat up on the bed. He reached out and pulled her back to lie down, but this time, her head rested on his chest, where her sweet fragrance wafted to his nose and made his lower abdomen tense up. He shouldn’t even lie like this with her if he wanted to avoid getting tempted by her, but he loved her too much to keep her away from him completely. Breathing in her fragrant hair, he replied.
"No, I’d never agree to such a thing, that was why we were arguing. You and the rest will stay here, but only on the condition that you won’t leave your rooms for the rest of the nights the full moon festival will be happening. The full moon will appear for eight nights. You are not to step out on those nights. Will you do that for me, Baby?" he asked as he stroked her hair, knowing how stubborn Ave could get sometimes, and she might get curious and step outside to see how they celebrated the moon festival and end up getting herself in trouble. He wasn’t going to be here to stop her, and the thought made him want to spend the rest of today with her.
Ave nodded, but her mind was at work. Wolves’ portraits, full moon nights—weren’t those a sign that whatever her thoughts earlier about these people were right?
"Lucian, don’t you think the people here are strange?" she asked him as she moved her head away from his chest to look into his eyes, her hand resting on his chest as she waited for him to reply.
"What made you think so?" he asked her.
Ave pursed her lips and shrugged. "I mean, they kept calling us human, and I saw some portraits of wolves on the walls of some halls. I don’t know why I have a feeling something is not right," she told him in a small voice as if she feared someone might be listening outside.
Lucian sighed deeply as he realized his wife was doing exactly what the King was afraid of when he refused to allow her and the rest to stay in his palace. She was figuring things out.
"My love, the king won’t like that you are snooping around his palace. What were you doing in that place? Guests aren’t allowed in that part of the palace," he mused as he caressed her cheek. "You shouldn’t wander around here."
"But—"
"Shh. Don’t let your curiosity get in the way of angering the people here. I am still trying to persuade them into giving us a hand to conquer the empire from Elara. She has made an official announcement, saying Caelan’s coronation will be in two days. It’s going to be hard taking the empire back after his coronation, and the Nazia royals haven’t agreed on a plan yet."
Ave knew what he was trying to tell her. She shouldn’t anger them by trying to find out what their secrets were. They didn’t seem to like that he brought her and the rest along, and if they caught her snooping around their things, it wasn’t going to be good. Not to mention Lucian needed them.
"Can you still take the empire back even if Elara places her son on the throne?" Ave asked, deciding to let go of her curiosity about the people here and discuss the pressing matters at hand.
"Yes, but only by killing him."
Ave fell silent. She didn’t give a hoot if Lucian killed that bastard, but what concerned her was, "How are you going to do that? With his mother, who happens to be a night creature, it will be impossible to get to her son," she muttered dreadfully, recalling how ugly and vicious the night creatures were in the drawings. What if Elara recruits others like her to protect her son? How would Lucian get to him and kill him to take the throne? If only he would allow her use her powers to help fight the night creatures, but according to him and Heaven, her powers were better not being used.
"It wouldn’t be so hard if the Nazia king agreed to give us full support. However, due to the moon festival, things will have to be delayed..." Lucian trailed off when his wife’s hair suddenly poured down his face because of the way she loomed over him with her palms flattened against his chest and was listening to him. Her brows were furrowed deeply, but when her hair fell around her face, she blinked and apologized as she moved back to tie the hair. But Lucian reached out instinctively and grabbed her wrist to stop her from moving away.
He raised his hand and combed his fingers through the strands of her hair, brushing them down to the length of it. He moved her hair away from her face while gazing into her eyes, which were locked onto his. "Baby..." he whispered thickly, and before he could stop himself, he flipped their positions so his wife was lying on her back while he lay half on her, his palms flat on either side of her head as he loomed over her.
His eyes trailed from her eyes to her small nose before they fell on her plump, rosy lips. Her lips were slightly parted as she stared up at him with a flushed face. He’d missed kissing those soft lips; he’d missed touching her, but he knew he shouldn’t. But God help him—with his wife lying beneath him with her face this close, he couldn’t control his desire to kiss her; to caress her breast and bask in her moans.
Ave, who noticed him staring at her lips, thought he was going to kiss her, and she held her breath and closed her eyes when she felt him lean his head down. She waited to feel his kiss on her lips, but instead, he kissed her cheek, his lips lingering there before he whispered thickly, "Let’s sleep for some time." Then he moved away from her and laid on his side, his back to her on the bed, while Ave clenched her fists against the sheets. Avoiding sexual intimacy, again...
"Lucian?" she called his name after some moment of silence, her eyes staring blankly at the unfamiliar ceiling of the room through the sheer curtains around the bed.
"Hmm?" he answered sleepily without turning to her.
She wet her lips before she posed her question. "Do you think Princess Nina is beautiful? I mean, is she the kind of woman you’d desire in bed?" she asked, hating that she’d asked such a question, but she just wanted to know what he thought about the princess. The woman made her feel self-conscious about what she didn’t have, and though she believed that Lucian wasn’t being intimate with her again because of what Selene must have done with her body, she didn’t want him to fall into whatever seductive trap Nina might try to set for her husband for the time they would be staying here.
She would make her husband want her, but before she figured out how to achieve that, she didn’t want him to want another.
When Lucian didn’t reply immediately, she believed he was thoughtful about her question and held her breath to hear what he’d say. When he didn’t say anything, she frowned and asked again, "Can a woman like that succeed in seducing you?"
"Hmm," he hummed softly, and Ave’s head jerked in his direction so quickly that she stared at his broad, majestic back. She propped herself up and parted her lips, believing his humming meant yes, but then she realized he was already asleep, his light snoring giving him away. Leaning closer to check his face, she noticed his eyes were closed, and his features had softened in sleep.
’Did he even hear any of my questions?’ she thought with a frown as she watched his peaceful face.
He must have been so tired, just like she was, but because of everything that happened this morning, she hadn’t been able to get any sleep. They had traveled without proper rest, so it was only natural that he’d fall asleep as soon as he got comfortable.
Ave used her hand to stroke his hair with a faint smile on her face and muttered, "You sleep like a baby." She was going to let him sleep now because she would make sure he wouldn’t sleep later tonight without them consummating their marriage. How she was going to do that, she had no idea; however, she would make sure of it. With that decision, Ave yawned, laid her head on her pillow, and closed her eyes.
