Chapter 193: Revelation (part 2)

Anne laughed at her son. "You have never even met Lucian before. I only read what his mother says about him in the letters to you, and yet you believe he is your friend already?" She stroked his reddish hair as she shook her head in amazement.

"Aye, he is. I will meet him someday, just like you said, and we will become the best of friends and protect Rose together," Rylan proclaimed as he stroked his mother’s belly. Ave watched with a bitter smile on her face, knowing he wouldn’t live to protect his sister as he claimed he would. He would be killed along with every single member of the Glynn household. Only Catherine and Selene, along with Jasmine—whose mother was the third wife of Kori—would survive, but even Jasmine had been killed right before Ave’s eyes.

"Juliet, you should really spend more time with your husband than come to me every day. I don’t need you here that much," Anne said one day as she was taking a stroll in her garden with her maidservant.

Juliet scoffed. "My husband and I live in the same house as you do. I don’t see why I should stop serving you because I am married, my lady." She then added, "I heard Lyria would be here in a few days for the king’s funeral. It’s so sad he died..."

Anne nodded her head. "She told me she would in her letter. The Emperor had allowed her to come for only a few days to his burial."

Not long after, Ave witnessed the two friends’ reunion when Lyria came to Gina. She didn’t bring Lucian, Ave noted when they met each other. She had hoped she would get a glimpse of the young Lucian, but it seemed she wouldn’t.

"My Lord, you have changed a lot, Lyria!" Anne exclaimed.

"So have you!" Lyria replied as she touched her friend’s belly. "It’s a girl!" She announced, "I can feel her, and she’s... strange." She muttered as her smile began to fall.

"What’s wrong with my child, Lyria?" Anne asked panickingly as she knew her friend had a gift of seeing and feeling things ordinary people wouldn’t.

"She’s coming. It’s time."

"What do you mean by—Ouch!" Anne yelped as she clutched her belly and grabbed her friend’s hand. "My baby is coming!" Her water broke, Ave noticed.

This time, there was no time to get a midwife as the baby seemed to be coming out by the time Lyria helped her friend into the room and laid her down on the bed.

"I gave birth without a midwife. I can help you," Lyria assured when her friend told her to go and get the midwife.

But something strange began to happen as Anne was pushing. The weather changed, and the day turned into night all of a sudden. Everywhere darkened, and they had to turn on lamps to be able to see.

"What’s happening!" Anne pushed as she yelled in question.

"It’s the baby, she’s doing it. She’s coming out!" Lyria said as she pulled the baby out. The baby didn’t even cry when she was born; she only thrust her tiny feet and hands as she stared with open eyes at Lyria.

Ave couldn’t believe a newborn baby’s eyes could be as sharp as they were now. And when she blinked, the darkened sky brightened up again.

"It’s a girl, Anne..." Lyria muttered as she stared down at the baby with a smile. "She has... the mark of Rosa on her chest," she announced grimly as she placed the baby into her friend’s arms, who looked shocked and scared at the revelation.

"The mark of Rosa," Anne whispered softly as she stared down at the purple mark on her daughter’s chest. "It can’t be. The baby with Rosa isn’t supposed to be born into the living world again." She glanced at Lyria with tear-filled terrified eyes. "She will be in danger..."

"Perhaps it is fate. I gave birth to a son with the evil mark. Lucian needs her, Anne. Maybe fate has finally decided to bring them together, maybe—"

"No. Your son has an evil mark, he is cursed to never meet her. She can’t be born. She can’t be in the same world as him. He would bring her nothing but pain and death," Anne sobbed brokenly as she shook her head. "We have to take her away, she can’t be here. I will not risk playing with fate. If she stays, everything will fall apart, the world will be broken."

A look of betrayal crossed Lyria’s face as she said, "What about my own son? He will perish without her, he will live in misery and destroy many things. He needs her."

"But she doesn’t!" Anne whispered-yelled. "You don’t understand. Your son is a reincarnation of sin. He has committed a sin he is to suffer for his whole rebirth. My daughter has nothing to do with his curse. Rosa saved the world after his mistakes, and she gave her life to fix it. She didn’t need to go through those pains he caused her again. Besides, if she is here, many will hunt her down for their greed. I can’t let that happen. Just like you can’t let your son suffer, I can’t allow my daughter to."

Lyria swallowed hard before she fell down at the side of the bed, covering her face with her hands. "I am sorry. I was only thinking about my own son..." When she looked up at Anne again, her tears had stopped, and she asked, "What do you plan to do with her before Kori and the rest find out?"

Anne looked down at her daughter with sorrowful eyes, and a miserable sob tore out of her throat as she cradled her to her breast and showered her little face with kisses. "I can’t kill my child. We have to send her soul away, Lyria, and only you can do it. Help me, please..." She looked at her best friend pleadingly. "You have the powers to do something like that. Protect her soul for me."

Lyria was torn between saving her own son and protecting her friend’s daughter. If she took the child away like Anne had said, then her son would suffer alone until his death, and if she didn’t, Anne’s daughter would live her life being hunted by enemies she had made in her past life. She would live in danger where she would never find peace. They were meant to be apart as per their curse. Soulmates that never will meet until the end of time.

Lyria closed her eyes for some time, and when she opened them, she nodded. "I will send her away."

"Thank you... thank you," Anne cried out as she looked at her friend in gratitude and then down at her daughter.

Ave didn’t understand most of what they meant or why Lucian needed this child for his curse. Everything was a jumble of nonsense in her modern mind. However, she didn’t like where everything was going as she had a bad feeling, but she decided to watch and see. This couldn’t be what she was thinking, could it?

"I can perform a soul swapping spell without needing the equipment for the spell, but I will have to do it in the garden where my flowers bloomed. The flowers of time at dawn," Lyria said as she took the baby from Anne, who seemed reluctant to let her go. "I will protect her soul for you, but you have to make sure no one knows about this. I will tell Juliet to tell your husband you are in labor and no one should come in while I am away."

When Lyria left with the baby, Ave went after her as she had a feeling whatever it was she was here for was going to happen where that baby was. She saw Lyria mount her horse, which happened to be... Heaven!

Ave was thinking how to follow them when she suddenly found herself in the Gina palace garden where Lyria had grown up. She walked to a flower that looked similar to the one Ave had touched once in Lyria’s garden in the Pendragon palace. Lyria crouched down and placed the baby on a blanket on the floor and looked at her with tear-filled eyes.

"I am sorry, my dear. You shouldn’t be here, but I brought you here. I never knew you’d come in the form of my friend’s daughter," Lyria sobbed silently. "I can’t let my son suffer, but yet I cannot let my friend watch you suffer. I have to take you far away... for now. Without your powers, you will be safe." She said as she used her magic to pluck the purple flower and turned it into a portal-like passage.

Ave didn’t know when she fell to her knees when the portal opened and a hospital room in the modern world was revealed in it. Lyria was playing with time ...

"With the power in me, I send this child’s soul far from here, to live a life in a different world and time. A soul that does not belong in this time shall take her place. Let two lives from different times intertwine, one shall take the body of another." The moment she said those words, Ave watched as a white light left the baby’s body and went through the portal. Immediately the light left her body, the baby stopped moving and stopped breathing. It was like she was dead until another light left the portal and came back to settle into her body. Then she let out a loud wail that echoed in the silent dawn.

The switch was made, and the modern woman died due to the fact that she couldn’t handle an extraordinary childbirth. Colors drained from Ave’s face as everything began to make sense to her right at that moment. Her soul belonged in this body while Selene’s was the real owner of her body in the modern world...
