Chapter 150: The big baby
Chapter 150: The big baby
Not once in Lucian’s life had he thought a day like this would come, when he would want something so much but couldn’t take it, especially when that something looked and seemed so willing, so in reach, and yet out of reach.
He had lived his life ever since he was a boy, being feared by all but his elder brother. People had run away from anywhere they got a whiff of his presence. He had gotten so used to that he took pleasure in seeing people run away from him, but he hated it when they called him names he wasn’t given by his mother.
He had faced every challenge of his life without flinching; he had fought in many battles where killing the enemies was as easy for him as killing innocent marching soldier ants. He had enjoyed causing pain to people who stressed him so much. However, today he was faced with one of the greatest challenges of his life that had left him baffled and uncertain, and if it had been someone else besides Ave, they would have long met their grave for the kind of stress she was giving him.
It had taken him more than twenty minutes to try to get her off his body, where she clung to him like a worm, her legs wrapped around his waist and her arms around his neck as she cried like a baby and tried to kiss him by force, regardless of him avoiding her kiss or making any other attempt to touch her as she begged him to, for her own good.
Lucian could get her off him by force, but the last thing he wanted was to harm or cause her any form of pain. He had tried to coax her, but no coaxing in this whole world he knew had worked on the big baby he’d gotten himself. She had wailed and cried, clinging to him. In the end, he had no choice but to take her into the bathing room and step into the bath with her. After discarding her dress and leaving her only in her chemise, he’d entered the large pool-like tub with her in front of him, where his hand was along her thighs to support her.
She had screamed in his ears that the water was too cold and said she didn’t want to be inside, but he thought that was exactly what she needed to cool down. It had taken him several more minutes to get her to stop crying and trying to get out of the water, finally deciding to kiss her as she wanted.
He had wanted the kiss to be as brief as possible, but he had been kidding himself. Those soft lips of hers were too addictive for him to be able to control himself. He’d ended up losing control again, where she had returned his kiss with as much desperation as his. When she slid her arms around his neck, welcoming his invading tongue, he slipped his tongue into her mouth. His hand moved involuntarily around her body, which arched against his.
Then he slid his hand into her chemise to lift and mold a breast, and the way her nipples responded to his touch had made his loins grow hotter and more painful. He didn’t realize when he’d kissed his way to her neck, leaving love bite marks on her delicate skin. Her moans did nothing to make him want to stop. His tongue flicked over the sensitive peak of her nipple over the fabric of her chemise, making her gasp in the water.
It had taken every ounce of his willpower to put an end to that heated moment; he wouldn’t have even stopped if Ave hadn’t pulled at his neck in a way that made them both fall into the water, where he had quickly snapped back to his senses and remembered they weren’t on a bed but in a bathing pool of cold water. The cold water had brought back his momentarily lost brain, and he immediately put a stop to what they were doing.
Fortunately, Ave seemed too weak to insist he touch and kiss her again. The cold water seemed to be cooling her off quicker than him. She allowed him to pour water on her while she still clung to his neck, her head resting against his chest with her eyes closed.
Lucian had bathed her without removing her chemise. He’d never been in a bath with anyone before nor had he had the chance to be this gentle with anyone before. He didn’t bring her out of the bath until he was sure her temperature had cooled and wasn’t as hot as it was.
Gathering her in his arms, he managed to step out of the water through the steps, careful he wouldn’t slip as she muttered words that made no sense in her sleep and tried to adjust herself against him.
"He is such a bastard...a jerk. He dares ignore me like he didn’t know me. Idiot second prince..." she muttered under her breath, but Lucian heard every single word she spoke. Looking down at her where her wet hair stuck to her face and dripped with water, he frowned. It seemed she was still angry with him even in her sleep to the point she was cursing him.
Shaking his head in silent amusement, Lucian took her into the room and gently placed her on the sofa without a care that her wet body would ruin the sofa. Walking towards the wardrobe, Lucian retrieved the wiping cloth usually kept there for any guests who would be occupying the chamber. Luckily, they hadn’t put any of the guests in this room, so they could use it until tomorrow.
However, there were no other clothes in the wardrobe apart from four wiping cloths. Having no choice, he took them both and walked back to Ave, where she had curled up around the sofa and hugged her knees up to find a comfortable position to sleep while she shivered slightly.
A few minutes later, after Lucian was done wiping her hair, he grabbed his coat, which he’d taken off before he’d gotten into the bathing pool. He was about to remove her chemise and get her into his coat when he stopped as his eyes fell on the open front of the chemise that reminded him of his intentions to check for the Rosa mark on her. The mark was said to be found in the center of the chest.
Lucian hesitated for a few moments before he reached out and parted the front of the chemise where there was an opening. His eyes fell on the smooth skin of her chest where there was no purple mark, only the fading marks of his bite on the top of her breast from when they were in that library. He let his fingers trace the fading bite marks and lingered at the swell of her breast, where she shivered as if aware of his fingers.
He looked towards her face. Her eyes were closed and her face had reduced their redness from the effect of the wine. If she wasn’t the Rosa, then what kind of witch was she? Lucian wondered silently as he swiftly discarded her dress without looking at her body until he draped her in his coat that fell to her knees. He buttoned up the coat. He then pulled her up and carried her towards the bed.
Ave wasn’t a normal witch; he had confirmed that today from how she wasn’t affected by the incense sticks he’d belatedly realized were witch-indicator smoke. When he’d smelled it and saw how Edward kept secretly adding more in the hall while looking around at the guests, even Lucian had been affected by it. But because he wasn’t a full witch but had cursed blood in his veins, he hadn’t shown any visible reaction that would have given him away, only the stinging burns he felt internally.
The Empress must have been alarmed by the thought of a witch in the palace, but why she’d put out incense without the Emperor’s orders was suspicious. Lucian thought, but dismissed that thought for now to attend to the woman he’d placed on the bed, but who was now gripping the front of his wet shirt tightly.
She still had her eyes closed, but her grip on his shirt was firm. He couldn’t get into the bed when he still had his wet clothes on, so he gently pried her fingers away from his shirt and stepped back. With his eyes still on her, where she frowned as though she was about to wake up, he hurriedly stepped out of his drenched clothes, naked in front of her sleeping form, he draped them over the sofa before he used the other wiping cloth he’d kept aside to wrap around his waist and then tuck it in at the side.
Seeing that Ave was waking up, which would be another torture for him if she were to wake and throw another tantrum, he hurried back to the bed and climbed onto it beside her. As if she could sense his presence, she immediately rolled into his arms and draped her leg over his before wrapping her arm around his waist and burying her head into his chest. He heard her sigh in contentment before she muttered, "Much better..."
Lucian pulled the blanket over them both and sighed in resignation, knowing this was going to be a long night for him. Not only did he have an erection, but her scent seemed even stronger tonight for some reason, not to mention the way her leg was draped over his.
As he lay there as stiff as a stone, he couldn’t help his mind from wandering back to her emotional breakdown and how she had told him about James Eamon, whom he could never address as her father for what the man had done. Though if he were in her shoes, he would seek revenge and want to see someone like that suffer, he couldn’t let her return to that era. He just couldn’t; it might be selfish of him, but he was willing to be selfish just to keep her.
He’d make sure to retrieve that spell book from her before she used it to go back. He would never allow it, never. And if she still insisted on leaving, he’d have no choice but to go with his plan of making her the mother of his heir when he took the throne. If she wouldn’t stay for his sake, she would for the sake of a child she birthed. From what he’d come to know of Ave, she was more compassionate than Selene. She seemed to care for everyone even though she didn’t let it show; she would surely care for her own child.
Their child. That thought alone sent a thrill that made his body heat up with an excitement he never knew was possible at the thought of having a child. Once he managed to take the throne, the first thing expected of an Emperor was to have an heir, and he’d make sure if that day ever came, Aveline would be the mother of his heir and his Empress. She had stepped into his world when he didn’t know he needed someone like her, and she would never step out of it.
She had come here on her own, or perhaps fate had brought her here, and regardless of whether she was his lost mate or not, he was going to keep her here if it was the last thing he did, which was why he had to do everything in his power to secure the throne before the time came. With those thoughts, Lucian’s arm protectively tightened around her waist as he pulled her against him and then pressed his lips to the top of her head.
"I am sorry for being a selfish jerk, Aveline. But I can never let you go." His amber eyes glimmered with determination and finality before he snapped his fingers and all the lights in the chamber went off, plunging them into darkness.
