Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife
Chapter 120: Going through the books of witches

Chapter 120: Going through the books of witches

A few hours ago, before the break of dawn, Lucian had woken up in Ave’s bed. At first, he didn’t make any attempt to move as Ave had turned to face him in her sleep and had her leg draped over his body, with her arm wrapped around his waist while she buried her head into his chest, he could feel her warm breathing falling on his skin where his buttons were left unbuttoned, causing his lower abdomen to tighten up and his arm to instinctively tighten around her.

He wished he could remain like this with her until they both slept in, but he dared not allow the sun to rise before he’d depart from her room. He didn’t want to risk being caught by one of the Empress’s dogs and get reported for being with Ave. The last thing he wanted was to allow the heartless woman to use Ave just to get to him.

In a world like theirs, your enemy will attack something most precious to you to break you, and when you were in your vulnerable state after losing that precious thing, they would attack you. Though he had no idea since when Ave had become precious to him, he couldn’t imagine her being killed just because of him.

Which was also why he wouldn’t dare to say no to a marriage he had requested and had been given a Princess, who if he married would help him get to the throne, but then would disturb his peace of mind for the rest of his life as he didn’t like her, but rather got annoyed with just the mere sound of her voice.

Sighing silently, he glanced down at the woman in his arms, who looked and seemed small and fragile compared to his build. She was in a deep sleep and didn’t even stir when he moved down and placed a lingering kiss on her forehead and then on her eyelids before his eyes fell on her pink lips, which he dared not kiss for fear of losing his control or waking her up.

Everything about Ave drove him crazy and made him act unlike himself, not to mention after what had happened last night when she had broken down from the sight of that drawing. He wanted to protect her and keep her safe with him, even if it meant he would have to endure marrying another woman to secure the throne, where only by taking it would he have the freedom to dispose of the Princess he would marry and take back Ave. The Emperor always had the power to do whatever he pleased, and he intended to use that power.

His eyes lingered on her slightly parted lips for some time, fighting the urge to kiss her before he dragged his gaze away from it and slowly moved back on the bed. He carefully and slowly moved her leg away from his and removed her arm from around his waist before he climbed out of the bed.

Lucian didn’t leave immediately and covered her properly with the blanket. Then, stroking her hair gently, he turned to the table where the drawings she had made last night were still there. When his eyes fell on the unforgiving particular drawing that had caused her to break down, his eyes darkened, and his expression turned murderous as he picked it up and studied it.

Though the drawing didn’t include faces, the particular scene made him shudder. He didn’t even want to imagine how a grown man could stand for a little girl to do that to him. He felt disgust and rage towards the unknown man course through his veins, sending murderous instincts to his brain. He wanted to kill, to destroy the man and rip him apart. He wanted to cut off the crotch he’d allowed a girl to touch and feed it to the wild wolves.

Lucian crumpled the drawing in his hands, but he didn’t tear it and stuffed it into his trouser pocket before he proceeded to neatly arrange the other beautiful drawings she had made for him, then picked them up along with the bowl he’d used to bring her food.

Glancing one last time toward her sleeping form on the bed, he left the room just as he had the last time and closed the window behind him.

Lucian made his way straight to his room and put the drawings on his bed to prepare for his morning, knowing he wouldn’t be able to sleep again even if he tried.

By the time Lucian was done preparing for his morning, the horizon was already turning bright. Knowing that today was a day no one would care who came for breakfast or didn’t, as tomorrow was the day of the ceremony, Lucian decided not to wait to eat or even be around when all the princesses would be fussing about what to wear.

He picked up the drawings, tucked them inside his inner coat, and left his room through the door. He still had things to do in his palace, like go through the books from Gina that Zane had said were in his library now.

Lucian mounted his horse and left the main palace. When he reached his palace, he saw Zane talking to Hugo and his teenage son at the stables. Lucian had already met the man a few times since he started working in his place, and every time the man saw him, he would always over-thank him for giving him this opportunity in life to work. Thus, he didn’t bother to make his presence known to them just to avoid that moment when he would get annoyed by the over-gratitude for something he hadn’t done but Ave had, and went straight into his palace.

First, he stopped by his chamber to keep Ave’s drawings in a safe box where he kept everything important, including little things of his mother’s he treasured. He carefully put them away, but before he could lock the box, his eyes fell on a purple pearl bracelet of his mother’s, his eyes flickered with a brief emotion before he picked it up without thinking. He tucked it inside his pocket and locked the box, his expression softening as he recalled the day his mother had handed him that bracelet.

It was her last winter before her death when he’d sat with her on a swing in the garden covered with a white blanket of snow. She had looked at him with a bitter smile on her face as she took off the bracelet from her wrist. ’Keep this with you, son, and one day when you find that person your heart longs for, give this to her on my behalf and tell her I said, welcome.’

The teenage Lucian, who was no more than sixteen, had taken the pearl bracelet with a frown on his face. ’I will never long for anyone more than you, Mama, why are you giving this to me when you can keep it and give it to whoever you see deserves it?’ he’d asked that question with a bewildered look as he had no idea back then she was suffering from the effects of poison.

He had seen how her lips broke into a smile and cold fog escaped her pale lips, which he had thought was because of the cold then but later realized was because she was dying slowly. She’d used her hands to cup his cheek affectionately as she said, ’My son, you will understand when the time comes. The one for you will be the person you would want to give the world to, and__’

’Mama, stop talking because I don’t like the sound of it. I want to give you the world alone, and I will burn down the world for you. I will make sure all those who made you suffer cry and wail in pain. That’s all I have in my heart; I don’t long for anything but to see every one of the royals and Pendragon people suffer,’ he had said that with so much pride and confidence because that was indeed how he had felt then, and that feeling had worsened when he’d lost his mother until now.

Lucian was still reminiscing about his past with his mother when he entered the library, which, to his surprise, had been filled with books to disguise the forbidden ones Zane had brought.

He walked around the racks, picking up the ones his sharp eyes knew were from Gina, and brought them to the window-side where a desk was stationed. Sitting down, he began to look through the books until his eyes fell on the book of the witches.

Even if anyone were to see the book, they would believe it to be any random book with the disguised cover.

Lucian relaxed in his seat and murmured incantations under his breath that made the book’s disguise fall, turning it into a glistening purple-like cover. He needed to research Ave and figure out how she was able to have powers that were more than those of a normal witch, as normal witches needed spells and drawings before they could use their powers.

Though the writing in the book was foreign, Lucian could read it fluently—it was written in the language of witches. The faint scent of herbs clung to the book, like it had been kept in a place surrounded by plants.

Inside, the pages were filled with illustrations of powerful witches, each with their names and how their powers worked, but they all required spells to be able to use anything or do any magic, which means Ave didn’t fall into any of the categories here.

He flipped through the pages until he reached one particular page that stood out. It was dedicated to a great ancient witch named Rosette, with the powers of Rosa.

The drawing showed a woman with a delicate purple flower marking her skin, a symbol that set her apart from all others. It was said the Rosa witch was distinguished by the mark of the purple flower on her skin. It appeared either in the middle of her chest or the back of her neck. She was the only witch to have powers that didn’t require spells or drawings.

The flower was unmistakable. It was her unique mark, her curse, and her power, but it was said she had killed herself ages ago and sealed her soul from reincarnating or being reborn to keep the balance of the world from people who sought her powers for greed, and to lock out the evil who would destroy mankind if it were to break out.

Lucian flipped through the ancient book to read more but found that was all that was written about the witch Rosette and the powers she possessed, and there was no mention of her again in the rest of the books. Ave couldn’t possess the Rosa, could she? He didn’t recall seeing any mark on her, but then he’d never looked that closely before. It was said to be found in the middle of her chest, which meant in between... her breasts, or the back of her neck.

He couldn’t possibly go and pull down her dress to look for the mark, and he didn’t want to ask her about it where she would end up asking him questions that would lead to her finding out what she could do with her powers and then use them to go back to her time, leaving him behind. He could tell from the longing in her voice last night that she would do anything to return, and he couldn’t possibly allow that to happen when she’d began to warm her way into his life.

Lucian closed the book back and it took on its disguise, as he sighed heavily. He needed to know more about Ave to be able to protect her and perhaps even help her understand her powers before she would give herself away somehow, but then it seemed not even the ancient witches’ books had deeper information.

The Rosa witch’s powers come with the soul, and if she had those powers, the body she possessed now should have the mark. But one thing was for certain: he needed to look at her body for the mark to be sure if she had that powers.

Lucian was still contemplating how to go about that without torturing himself with the desire to bite her and possess her body in every way a man wanted a woman when his eyes fell on another book that caught his attention.

It wasn’t a book about witches and it had no disguise on it, but what caught his attention was a drawing on the book cover, a drawing that looked like him when he shifted into his beast form, perhaps a book about his own curse...
