Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife
Chapter 119: "How did you get hurt?"

Chapter 119: "How did you get hurt?"

It took everything in Ave’s willpower not to actually hit or respond to Madeline’s insult and anger directed at her when the brat had been the one to let her pour the tea all over the place. Ave had heard how the Banzai kingdom was so important that even the Emperor would do anything to please them. If she were to lay a hand on their Princess, she wouldn’t only bring trouble to herself but also get herself killed.

Swallowing her pride, Ave took a few napkins from the table and bent down to clean up the mess without paying attention to any of the murmuring going on around the table about her being jealous of Madeline because she would be marrying Lucian.

"I have lost my appetite; let’s go away from here," Madeline said to her other friends at the table, who were cursing at Ave and calling her names.

As Ave began to pick up the broken pieces of the teacup, she saw from the corner of her eye how Madeline’s feet moved as if she were leaving. However, before Ave knew it, the Princess had purposely stepped on her hand, causing her palm to flatten against a sharp piece of the broken cup, breaking the skin of her palm and sending pain shooting through her hand.

Ave bit down hard on her bottom lip as Madeline put her entire weight on her hand before stepping away and walking toward the exit, but not before she turned over her shoulder and shot Ave a smirking look that made Ave grit her teeth in annoyance.

If only she weren’t at a disadvantage, Madeline wouldn’t have tried this with her and left without sustaining a few bruises. Ave thought as she raised her palm, where a sharp piece of the broken teacup had stuck into her skin. When she pulled it out, it began to bleed uncontrollably. Without bothering to clean up the rest of the broken pieces, she stood up and angrily left the dining hall, as no one was paying attention to her anymore after almost all the guest princesses had left.

Ave didn’t care to stop anywhere and walked out of the palace, her expression blank as she masked her real emotions. She was angry at herself and at Lucian for picking a bitch like Madeline as his wife, and she was more determined now than she had been a moment ago to find a spellbook. She needed to leave this world before that marriage happened, and she would be forced into becoming a servant to Madeline, because if that were to happen, she might end up really killing the princess and causing herself not to exit in the future.

Ave was descending the stairs of the palace entrance when she heard Isolde’s voice calling out to her from behind. She turned to find the girl hurrying toward her.

"Lord, Selene, you walk too fast!" She huffed for breath as she came to stand in front of Ave and then retrieved a handkerchief from her dress pocket. "Here, Sister Thalia told me to give this to you for your hand... we noticed it was bleeding when you left, but because of Mother, we couldn’t do anything."

Ave’s expression softened a bit as she glanced at the piece of cloth Isolde held out to her. She’d come to know the princesses enough to recognize the handkerchief she held out not to be Thalia’s but hers, as everything of Princess Isolde had a touch of pink flowers, just like the handkerchief she held out, saying Thalia had told her to bring.

It was almost unbelievable that a girl who had never failed to call her a slave princess was now here offering her a handkerchief. That kind gesture brought a smile to Ave’s face and lightened her gloomy mood as she held out her hand to take the handkerchief, but Isolde scoffed and pulled it away from her reach. "You won’t be able to tie it around your hand; let me do it for you."

Ave chuckled softly and nodded her head before she held out her bleeding hand to the princess, who looked frightened by the deep cut at first and even seemed like she would throw up at the sight of the blood, but despite that, she shakily tied her handkerchief around the wound and secured the bleeding.

"By the way, where were you going in such a hurry?" Isolde asked after she was done tying the wound and then held up her chin as she usually did like she didn’t care. Earlier in the hall, Isolde had been the one sitting close to where Ave was picking up the pieces and had noticed her bleeding hand when she left. She’d sneaked out of the hall with Thalia distracting their mother to come after Ave.

"I was on my way to the doomed palace when you stopped me. I want to go and get a dress I forgot to bring along with me here," Ave said half-truthfully. She wasn’t going there to find any dress but to look around for either Selene’s diary or the spellbook in the library.

But to her surprise, Isolde said almost eagerly, "Let me come with you. Mother is trying to match me up with a prince I don’t like, and I want to escape the part where she introduces me as a marriageable princess to him. We can take the royal carriage, and don’t worry, I won’t even step out of the carriage while you go in to look for the dress!"

Ave looked ready to refuse but seeing how eager Isolde was to escape her mother, and since she had said she would stay inside the carriage, Ave sighed and nodded her head. "Alright, we should hurry before we get noticed by anyone."

With the help of Isolde, Ave got to ride in the royal carriage despite not having a title. While Ave was deep in thought, trying not to think too much about Lucian and why he hadn’t told her himself about his marriage happening so soon, Isolde was rambling on and on about how she planned to do her hair tomorrow and style her dress.

Ave occasionally replied to the girl’s rambling, and when they arrived at the doomed palace, she turned to Isolde. "I might take some time inside. Are you sure you’ll be fine in the carriage?" she asked.

Isolde grinned and nodded her head. She would rather sit in the carriage than have her mother introduce her to a prince who was obviously senseless and stupid. "Do not worry, Selene, I will wait here for you. Take your time and look for your dress."

Ave smiled and then exited the carriage, but the moment she stepped away from it, her smile faded and her expression turned thoughtful. She had so much going on in her mind. She had Lucian to worry about and how to make sure he would stop the assassination of the first prince. Then she had Lydia to worry about and how to cure her before she could go back—if there was even a way.

Ave walked into the doomed palace, almost in a trance, not paying attention to anything or anyone. She was familiar with the palace and made her way straight to the library, where she had never stepped inside but passed by.

She pushed the large oak door open and stepped inside, closing it behind her. The space was bright as the windows were large and open, illuminating every corner of the large library. All the racks were filled with books, so many that not all of them fit on the shelves and were kept on the floor.

Ave stopped, not even knowing where to start looking. She began walking around, looking at the books neatly arranged on the shelves. She walked for some time before her eyes fell on a particular rack where the books looked different from the rest, and one in particular caught her eye, almost as if an invisible force was pulling her toward it.

She stood in front of the rack, glancing at the brown book that, despite not looking special, still caught her eye. She reached up her hand and pulled it off the shelf. Glancing down at the book, she saw it glimmer between brown and black, and her eyes widened. She tried to open it, but it refused to budge, and before she could think of doing anything else, a voice spoke from behind, startling her into dropping the large book to the floor.

"How did you get hurt?" came Lucian’s deep, displeased voice from behind her.

Ave swirled around to find him standing at the end of the long row of racks she was standing in, his brows drawn together in what seemed to be displeasure and something else she couldn’t pinpoint. He regarded her, causing her heart to skip a beat.

Not wanting him to see the book she had dropped, she pushed it to the side with her leg without blinking her eyes. As he began to walk toward her in long strides, his face hardened with each step, and when he came to stand in front of her, he reached out to grab her injured hand without a word and brought it up to his face. He then ripped off the handkerchief wrapped around her palm to see the blood smearing her skin and the deep cut.

"How did you get this cut?" he demanded coolly, his voice sounding darker than she last recalled, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. When her eyes met his, they glimmered between gold and black. A vein throbbed on his forehead as he waited for her reply with an impatient look on his hardened face. Sensing the aura around him, she couldn’t help but wonder when he had come in or if he had been here before she arrived.
