Chapter 135:An Extension [1]

Chapter 135: Chapter 135:An Extension [1]

Waking up to the sun’s rays shining down my face, heating up my entire body, I felt yesterday’s memories flood through my mind, forcing its way into my brain.

"..."

Had it all been a dream?

My entire body ached as I opened my eyes and leaned against a nearby wall, examining my surroundings.

Above me lay a small rock overhang, and walls surrounded me from all sides except the front.

More importantly, though, a thin sheet, protecting my aching body from the rough mountain ground, lay under me, alongside a blanket, which covered my legs and stomach.

"...?"

Who had done this!?

The last thing I remembered seeing was the ginormous body of Fenrir falling on top of me, completely blocking my vision.

Someone had to have lifted the body and taken me to wherever this place on the mountain was.

Scanning my surroundings, I saw another small sleeping bag a couple of feet away from me, but it was empty.

At that moment, as a sudden gust of wind swooped through the area and hit my bare skin, I realized I was shirtless.

Confusedly glancing around, I found my shirt, covered in blood, hanging a few meters away from me.

"My eye..."

It was only then that I realized I couldn’t see out of my right eye.

I hadn’t gotten so used to seeing with only my left eye that it was normal.

As I placed my hand over my wide-open right eye, my vision did not change or blur in the slightest.

At that moment, snapping me out of my thoughts, a sudden voice sounded from right in front of me.

"Looking for this?"

Standing in front of me, dressed in a red jacket and blue jeans, Daisy dangled a small black bandage from her hands.

My eyes widened as Daisy’s figure appeared, and I leaned backward, realizing she had been the one to save me.

But...how?

Calming myself down, I managed to mutter out.

"Y-you’re here!?"

Flicking her hand and throwing the bandage so that it perfectly landed in my lap, Daisy approached me and answered.

"You know, I wondered what a shut-in with zero social interactions would be doing on a field trip."

Bending her knees and leaning downward so that she was at the same height as me, Daisy continued,

"And, the first answer that came to mind is something stupid. For you to choose to willingly go on this trip, there must be something here you really want."

Sighing, I simply waved my hands and slowly stood up.

"You know, I’d rather go back to that hellhole under the wolf than hear whatever lecture you have prepared."

Slamming her face against her hand, Daisy shook her head and replied.

"You know you have a one-of-a-kind element in the whole of history. You could grow to be the strongest human in the world. If I let you die, then I’d be in huge trouble."

Shrugging my shoulders, I stepped out from under the overhanging, embracing the sunshine, and sarcastically said.

"Then, don’t let me die."

As Daisy stood behind me, shocked at my audacity, I suddenly recalled something.

There had been a reason I had gone through all that pain.

There had been a reason I had decided to kill Fenrir.

To get the dungeon reward.

Focusing my mind, I excitedly watched as my status menu appeared before me.

There, beside my name, lay the sparkling "CLAIM" button I had been waiting for.

Raising my hand and tapping the button, to the dismay of Daisy, who probably thought I had gone insane for tapping the air, I immediately felt my body grow slightly heavier.

And, when I looked down, in my left hand appeared...a black and blue strip of cloth?

Unlike abilities, artifacts didn’t come with any form of description.

I simply had to figure it out myself.

The cloth was soft, seemingly made of wool, the length of my forehead approximately, and the width of my eyes.

The first thing that came to my mind was...

"Headband?"

Peeking over my shoulder, Daisy gazed at the cloth, her eyes sparkling, as she wondered what could have possibly made me come to this mountain.

Shrugging my shoulders, I stuffed the headband in my jean pocket and said.

"What can I say? I’m a sucker for vintage pieces."

"...you really don’t know what happened, do you?"

Looking at Daisy’s deadly serious gaze, I couldn’t help but let my curiosity get the best of me and ask.

"What? Everything kind of went black..."

Sighing and turning around, Daisy walked toward her sleeping back before saying over her shoulder.

"The only reason I could find you is because of our mana contract. You still had some lingering mana particles from the contract on you, so I tracked them to find you."

"So imagine my surprise when I found you descending to the ground at the speed of an asteroid pinned to the ground by a two-ton wolf with close to no pulse."

"I have no idea what your plan was, but if I weren’t there, you would have died."

Evangel had probably dropped the cliffside after seeing Fenrir dead and basecamp evacuated.

And Sage probably had no idea where I had gone, as due to my time stop, I probably teleported out of her sight.

Looking upward, I found Daisy staring at me over her shoulder, perhaps waiting for any sort of reaction.

She had just told me that I had come seconds close to death, so she probably expected a response from me.

Unfortunately, though, I had nothing.
