Chapter 75: A Glitch?

Click.

Shut.

Lock.

The soft click of the door settling into place behind him brought an end to the whirlwind of the day.

Steve exhaled heavily, dragging his coat off his shoulders with a sluggish arm and tossing it towards a chair, missing by a mile. He didn’t care. Right now, everything else could go to hell.

With a dull thud, his body collapsed onto the mattress, limbs sprawled like a corpse tossed in frustration.

He bounced slightly against the softness, then groaned—a sound that came from the soul.

"God, what a first day..." he muttered under his breath, stretching out like a lazy cat.

His fingers clenched the comforter beneath him, as if clinging to some sense of normalcy.

’A lot happened. But really, not even that much. Weird, huh?’

His mind flicked through moments like snapshots—some vivid, others half-formed.

Mary’s smile flashed across his memory, followed by the way she had looked at him, full of trust... naive trust.

’I got to add a new girl to my list... Mary . She gave me her name like it was a gift. Hell, I feel like such a bastard.’

He turned on his side, burying half his face in the pillow. The softness felt almost too kind for someone like him.

’But hey, I did a good deed. I did help her. And I learned something today—about myself. About how strong I really am.’

His thoughts drifted to the ghost—the force he’d bound.

’Power. Real power. Bound to me.’

He smiled faintly, raising his hand toward the ceiling.

’Still... I’ve got a lot on my plate. This dorm isn’t home. Not even close. If I were home right now... she’d be there. Maggie...’

His body went still.

For a brief moment, Steve let himself remember.

The way her skin had tasted. The way she moaned when he plundered her from her backside—like the world didn’t exist beyond his touch.

Her full, bouncing breasts, heavy against his chest as she cleaned him that faithful day, over and over again like a prayer. Her ass—God, her ass—was perfection incarnate. That curve, the way she offered herself so completely.

’That was the life... That was my life.’

He felt his lower body twitch, stirred by the memory, but then he frowned and sat up slowly, shaking the thoughts away.

’No. Now’s not the time to falter. I promised myself—I swore—I’d become a harem overlord. No room for weakness.’

He swung his legs off the bed, grounding himself.

’Surrounded by MILFs or not, I’m here for a reason. And not just for sex or the alpha power. I came here to learn magic. To master it. And if I do that...maybe... maybe when I’m strong enough, I can have both Maggie and the Queen Witcher at my side, and my hands buried in their asses. And Tonya? Below me... hehe...yeah, definitely below me.’

He chuckled darkly to himself, shaking his head.

"My conscience is rotten."

And yet... that didn’t make it false.

Steve leaned forward, reaching under the mattress.

His fingers brushed against the hard leather surface tucked neatly between the bed frame and mattress.

He pulled it out carefully—the Author’s notebook, his secret weapon.

He flipped it open, to where he had last used it, held intact by his quill pen, and then, he unclipped the quill pen from where it rested in the fold of the binding.

’Okay, okay... Focus now. Priorities.’

He took a deep breath.

’First things first, I need to write down the event that’ll make Mary fall for me. I know I should finish the "big three" first—Fiona’s still waiting, and Dina’s sleeps beside mu bed just begging to be plundered—but damn it, Mary’s fresh...it was way too....what’s the word?...sweet?’

He tapped the end of the quill against his chin.

’Besides, Dina’s always here. I can get her whenever I want. And Fiona? She’s already crumbling. I barely even need to try.’

He narrowed his eyes.

’But Mary... There’s a challenge. I like challenges.’

He thought back to their interaction—short but not insignificant. He had saved her from being bullied. That counted for something, didn’t it?

’She has to feel something. Even if it’s just gratitude. That can grow into curiosity... which can grow into attraction. If I can just use Charm Master on her—just once—I can get the seed planted.’

He smirked, scribbling rapidly now.

"Mary, the character met by player today, was filled with utter discomfort. She shall return to her room late at night. An unbending heat stirs within her, driving her toward the Arcane Bloom Garden for fresh air."

He paused, admiring the poetic edge of his own phrasing.

’The Arcane Bloom Garden... perfect. It’s familiar, it’s secluded, and it’s romantic if played right. I’ve already been there with Tonya, so I won’t get lost. And even if Tonya shows up again... I’ll improvise.’

He smiled to himself.

’Once Mary steps into that moonlit field of blossoms, I’ll be waiting. A few smooth words. A gaze. The Charm Master skill. Then...’

He leaned back, pleased.

’Task complete.’

He added a small flourish at the end of the sentence, punctuating it with a dot.

[Ding!]

The system notification rang out immediately, the soft chime suddenly thunderous in the quiet dorm room.

Steve’s smile froze as a glowing message hovered in front of him.

[TASK FAILED]

His brows furrowed.

[CHARACTER (Mary) DOES NOT EXIST!]

He froze instantly.

’W-W-What the hell do you mean she doesn’t exist?! That doesn’t make any sense...I talked to her! I looked her in the damn eyes!’

The quill pen slipped from his fingers, tumbling to the floor with a soft clink.

’Is this a glitch? Or... did I imagine her? No—no, that’s insane. She was real. She had to be real!’

The system notification shimmered faintly, as though mocking him with its silence. No further updates. No correction.

Just the harsh truth.

[CHARACTER (Mary) DOES NOT EXIST]

He stared blankly for a moment longer, then leaned back slowly onto the bed.

’This has got to be a mistake...If Mary doesn’t exist... then who the hell...did I save?’
