Chapter 70: Savior

The morning sun spilled softly over the sprawling grounds of Arcane Bloom Academy, casting long, golden streaks of light across the cobblestone paths and the towering, ivy-clad walls.

As the bell tolled its resonant call, the subtle murmur of excitement rippled through the crowd of students gathered in the courtyard.

One by one, they stirred to life — the boys and girls dressed in the distinctive red coats and blue trousers of the academy’s uniform, their conversations a blend of nervous anticipation and rivalry.

Among them was Steve, stepping out from the shadow of the dormitory with an air of detached confidence.

His movements were deliberate, measured — as if the world around him held little surprise. Yet, all around, whispers began to flutter like wind through leaves.

The women—students and staff alike—stared with wide, incredulous eyes.

The guards shifted uneasily, exchanging low murmurs. Even the cleaners and gardners paused their tasks, their gaze drawn irresistibly to the figure walking boldly through the throng.

A man, yes, but more than that—a man who had somehow awakened magical power in a place where such things were rare, even revered. The rumors had already begun to weave their intricate web-

"Is that... him? The one they say awakened magic?"

"Is it actually true? How did a man awaken magic?"

"Shouldn’t someone tell him he shouldn’t be here regardless of his powers?"

But Steve, his gaze steady and unbothered, ignored every sideways glance and whisper.

He had heard enough from the Queen Witch’s cryptic advice to know which classes he could avoid, and more importantly, he had his own goals, sharp and unyielding.

He wasn’t here for their approval. Not for their admiration or suspicion.

His ambitions were clear — to master magic, to grow strong, to carve his path among sorcerers.

And, perhaps most importantly, to find males who intrigued him.

The girls whispering behind their hands barely registered in his mind. None of them caught his eye—not one who matched the fire burning inside him.

Beside him, Dina, his roommate, chatted away eagerly, pointing out classrooms and explaining the routines- magic theory, survival drills, combat training.

Although Steve was already well aware of which classes to avoid courtesy of the Queen Witcher.

Still, Dina was bright and quick, her enthusiasm infectious, but Steve’s mind only half-listened, distracted by the thrumming of stares like invisible hands pressing against his skin.

Eventually, the endless march through lessons came to a halt — it was time for the cafeteria break.

Steve’s boots echoed against the polished stone floor as he settled across from Dina at a long wooden table.

The cafeteria buzzed with the low hum of conversation and the clatter of utensils.

Before them lay the simple but hearty meal: warm porridge, a bowl of sweetened beans, and slices of tender poultry cooked just right.

Dina raised her spoon gracefully, about to take a bite, while Steve’s hand hovered over his own food.

Yet, even as he reached for the spoon, his eyes flickered sideways, sensing the invisible eyes still following him. Not openly, no — just those sidelong, furtive glances that spoke volumes.

The strange feeling settled on his skin like a chill, and a small, almost impatient sigh slipped past his lips.

He bit the spoon’s rim gently, then took a slow mouthful of the porridge, savoring the warmth and simplicity, even as the whispers buzzed around the room.

Dina noticed, her brows knitting in concern. She leaned in slightly, voice soft but steady.

"Does it get any easier?" Steve asked, his eyes searching through the faces.

Steve grunted, a flicker of annoyance darkening his gaze.

"I’d think they’d learn some self-control by now." he muttered, swallowing the bite of food.

"It’s like they don’t know how to act around someone like me."

Dina chuckled softly, shaking her head.

"It’s been a long time since a man with magic appeared here. We have some at the higher ranks, but someone like you? They’re just not used to it."

Steve’s eyes darkened with a hint of frustration, but he found comfort in Ruby’s calm presence.

Still, the unwanted attention grated against him like sandpaper on raw skin.

"Maybe you should stop thinking about them." she suggested, nudging her spoon toward him playfully.

"Tell me something about yourself. Anything."

At that moment, Steve’s mind instinctively raced—

’was this a move?’

A deliberate invitation? He smirked internally, amused at the notion.

A girl making the first move wasn’t something he expected, but he wasn’t about to shy away. He leaned back slightly, relaxed for once.

"What do you want to know?" he asked, voice low and casual.

Dina’s eyes gleamed with curiosity, and for a moment, the world outside the cafeteria fell away.

Their conversation drifted through easy topics—where he came from, what he dreamed of, the little quirks that made him unique.

Steve found himself talking more than he expected, drawn out by her gentle prodding and genuine interest.

But the moment was fleeting.

The bell rang again, signaling the end of the break.

Steve pushed his plate away, the porridge gone, the poultry eaten, but his appetite for distraction still unsatisfied.

The pressure of unseen eyes pressing against him was suffocating.

"I need some air." he said, standing abruptly.

Without another word, Steve stepped into the cool corridor outside the cafeteria, the noise dimming behind him.

His footsteps echoed on the marble as he walked, the expansive hallways twisting and turning like a labyrinth.

The sheer size of the academy was overwhelming, and soon, Steve found himself pausing, eyes darting nervously.

He groaned softly, slapping a hand to his forehead.

"Lost again." he muttered, lips curling in mild frustration.

"I swear, this place is designed to confuse people."

He leaned against a tall mirror, staring at his own reflection — the boy in the red coat, the stranger in this magical world.

The hall was quiet, except for a faint noise—soft, irregular sounds that barely registered at first.

Cackle.

Cackle.

Cackle.

The faint murmuring echoed from somewhere below, pulling his attention toward a nearby window that looked down onto a narrow alley.

His eyes flickered to the scene outside.

There, illuminated by the pale morning light, he caught sight of a figure.

Rapunzel...or rather, the weirdo who had received to let him help her.

She was seated on the cold ground, her legs crossed and head bowed low, the familiar red and blue uniform clinging to her slender frame.

The way the sunlight kissed the curves of her body beneath the fabric was impossible to ignore, a subtle allure that tugged him.

But it wasn’t her beauty that captured his gaze—it was the scene unfolding around her.

Three girls circled her like predators, their sneers sharp and cruel.

Laughter spilled from their lips in mocking waves, and Rapunzel kept her head down, shoulders trembling ever so slightly.

Bullying.

The world seemed to narrow to that moment. The noise of the academy faded into silence, replaced by the steady thumping of Steve’s pulse.

Under normal circumstances, he might have averted his eyes, indifferent or cautious.

But something inside him ignited — a raw, protective instinct, sharpened by the selfish calculation of a man with clear goals.

’Hmm...Saving a damsel in distress...I’ve seen this work in animes and movies before, but never in real life...If I intervened and saved her, well, it could realistically be a step towards my harem...’

’...So...this could be a chance to add Rapunzel to my harem circle. So, save her from bully witches, eh? What could possibly go wrong?’

A slow, almost wicked smile crept across his lips as his mind raced with possibilities.
