Chapter 99: How did you get out?

Fan helped me out of the chains and I rushed to the bed. "Storm!" I called out to him as he continued to thrash, groaning in pain.

"He’s plagued with the nightmare from his first world before his soul got split. I don’t know what exactly that is." He touched Storm’s forehead, "it will help him."

"Thank you," I breathed in relief when he stopped thrashing and hugged me instead. The sweat that pulled on his forehead subsided, and his breath normalized.

"Had he not been in his nightmare world, he would have stabbed you when you touched him." Fan shrugged when I gaped at him, "I studied his past life. Anyway, I’m out of here. What I did now will help him through the night. He won’t have any more nightmares until you help him fight them." He winked at me, "have a nice night."

"Thank you once more," I smiled at him as I watched him disappear.

Storm clung on to me the entire night and I slept off, cocooned in his embrace, not mindful of how naked I was. For now, I’m in the place where I belong — until morning.

I gasped when I felt a hand wrap around my neck. My eyes immediately snapped open in shock to see Storm leaning over me with his right hand tightly wrapped around my neck, and a knife pressed on my cheek.

I tried to speak, but he pressed down hard, making it impossible for me to say a word.

"What are you doing in my bed?!" He snarled at my face.

"I..." I struggled under him but didn’t attempt to push him off, though I know I can easily kick him off my body.

"Attempting to assassinate me, are you?" He sneered, easing his hold around my neck when I frantically shook my head.

"Fuck you, Storm!" I rubbed my hand around my neck and glared at him, feeling the urge to kick him on his stomach. "What did you do that for? If I wanted to kill you, would you still be alive?"

He scowled, "how did you get out of those chains?"

"Oh, those?" I turned my attention to the chains that Fan broke when he helped me out of it. "I used my strength. As you said, I am a witch. So, getting out of those is merely a child’s play to me." I sat up on the bed and stared at him, still rubbing my sore neck.

His eyes narrowed to slits, and he barred his teeth but didn’t make a motion to wrap his palm around my neck. He got down from the bed and took a knife, turned and flung it my way.

The knife wedged on the headboard, above my head. "Know this, Slut. I’m not someone you can play with." He glared at my naked body before he stormed towards his bathroom, while I sat on the bed with a smug expression on my face.

What Fan said is true. The storm is still the same. He might hate me, but can’t bear to kill me. Else, he would have done it long ago.

Deep down, his heart knows me, but his mind is still clouded.

I was escorted back to my excuse of a room by Ray, who kept staring at me like he expected me to bolt for the door or something.

After that, I was served a loaf of plain bread and water, which I wolfed down, famished enough to not bother about it. If you have been left hungry for two days, you will eat anything you were given.

The bread tasted like heaven in my mouth and I greedily devoured it without leaving any crumbs.

After that, I was escorted by Ray, to have a bath because Storm was leaving for the palace, and I’m going with him.

From the little I was able to grasp from Ray, the kingdom has three main villages. Storm was sent to the village of the dark when he attained the age to rule. It’s part of the test to know if he’s qualified to rule.

"Why are you always frowning at me? Ease up a bit, or else you will turn bald in a year." I sent a glare at Ray.

He brought me to a lake at the back of the building because I refused to bathe in the general bathroom all the maids use.

He grumbled under his breath but didn’t say a word to me. Instead, he turned his back to me, but not before sending a dark scowl my way.

"You know, this isn’t how you were before, Ray. Could it be that Storm changed you?" I mused aloud, eager to make conversation.

Outside here, there are only trees for miles and the occasional chirping of birds.

"Shut up!" He snarled. "You don’t know anything about me! Keep your damned mouth shut!" He scowled, glaring daggers at me.

"Why are you always growling? I know you are a wolf, but you don’t have to behave like an animal all the time." I splashed the water, inhaling deeply at the sensation that went through my body when I dipped my head in the river.

Ray turned to look at me and mumbled something unintelligible before he leaned on a tree.

Seeing that he didn’t say anything else, it made me eager to continue. "You were always happy, friendly, and quick to do my bidding."

Well, that was until he started dating Theo. But before that, he took good care of me, getting my breakfast for me and waking me in time.

He turned to stare at me but didn’t growl. There was something in his eyes.

It looked like he wanted to know more about the Ray I’m speaking about.

Seeing the expression on his face, I continued. "We met when you were um... chosen as a guard for the king," I said, hoping it rhymed since there was no way I can tell him that I met him at the Academy.

"That was years ago," he grumbled under his breath, sounding like he didn’t wish to answer my questions, yet, he did.

"How old are you now?" I gaped at him.

He stared straight into my eyes, "20. I joined the army when I was 7."
