Transcendent Gene
Chapter 49: Early Reunion [3]

Chapter 49: Early Reunion [3]

It was already known that genes were categorized as Combat Sequences, Cognitive Sequences, or Industrial Sequences depending on how they could be best utilized. However, there were even further classifications in all three of those categories.

For Cognitive and Industrial Sequences, the distinction existed purely for filing and classification purposes, but for Combat Sequences, those categories told Sequencers exactly what kind of power the Sequence in question had.

Based on their Original Genes and the growth paths they chose, they would use these classifications to choose the perfect Sequences to enhance their strength.

Combat Sequences were broken down and classified into five types.

Type 1 was Elemental Sequences. Elemental Sequences had any kind of elemental ability ranging from the most common fire or water to more elusive lightning or metal. Lightning was present as an ability on Raymond’s team, as well as an even more elusive element.

’Darkness.’

Light and Darkness were elements almost impossible to find in Gene Sequences, as they only belonged to the strongest beasts who couldn’t be killed and mined easily. Those who were born with powerful Original Genes with these elements were always sponsored heavily, as it was almost guaranteed that they’d be great Sequencers someday.

Some people born with Light or Dark element genes would even sometimes have their Original Genes removed and turned into Sequences, as it would fetch them an extremely large sum of money regardless of strength.

Natalia clearly didn’t choose to do that. She used her Sequence proudly, showing off the strength that she’d spent years cultivating.

And if hers was really an Original Gene, it was bound to be worth at least several hundreds of millions of credits.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

It was a level of power she didn’t show when she was saving him, so Gio wasn’t able to base his previous worries off of it.

Her fighting style was interesting, as well. She stayed back, using her Darkness to summon massive projections that crashed down on the titanic lizard.

ROOOOOAAAR–!

It bellowed in anger, opening its mouth wide and firing a massive beam of blue energy into the ground.

However, before it could strike, she had already moved.

She remained at a distance, barraging it and leading it into attacks before suddenly–

The camera feed on the screen glitched for a moment, coming back to show a much, much clearer representation of the beast’s scales.

After all, Natalia was hanging onto them like she was climbing a mountain.

’It can’t be teleportation.’

Spatial abilities were nearly non-existent. If they did exist, their power was non-existent.

’Is she moving between shadows? It makes sense if she’s using multiple Sequences that control darkness, but if it’s all from the same gene, she’s an impossible talent.’

Even if it wasn’t, it could still be considered a talent to be able to source several Darkness Sequences with that level of power.

Every single attack Natalia made sent shockwaves coursing through Namadra’s body parts, shifting its scales. When she approached it, she concentrated her power into blasts and slammed her fist against the scale she balanced on, crushing it in and creating as much of an opening as she could in the time she had.

She played multiple roles on the battlefield. In normal cases, it was an extremely dangerous game to play, but Natalia had the freedom to play it.

Namadra’s massive claws slammed towards its own thigh to turn her into a human patty. Natalia gritted her teeth as she looked at the cracks she’d made in the scale and continued her attack knowing what was coming towards her.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of Natalia’s attacks rang out.

WHOOOOOSH!

The winds whipped around her as those claws approached within mere tens of feet of her.

However, before they could arrive...

BANG!

Natalia’s eyes hardened as she succeeded in forming a real crack in the scale. At the same time, a snake of purple-ish light wrapped itself around Namadra’s arm. The beast’s movements abruptly came to a halt regardless of its will, giving Natalia the second she needed to disappear and reappear out of the attack’s radius.

BOOOOM!

Those claws slammed down on nothing but scales. In fact, those claws shattered the scale that Natalia cracked moments prior.

’A Type 4 Sequence.’

Gio’s eyes narrowed as he looked at the screen to the left. That camera feed almost never moved from its place hidden in the sand, however, that wasn’t to say its owner wasn’t contributing.

Type 4 Sequences, otherwise known as Psychic Sequences, differed from Cognitive Sequences just as Type 2 Sequences, or Physical Sequences, differed from Industrial Sequences. They were Mental Sequences entirely weaponized and meant to be used in battle.

Type 3 Metaphysical Sequences controlled forces that were usually intangible or conceptual, such as gravity, virtual space, or even matter. Type 5 Chaos Sequences, on the other hand, couldn’t be properly categorized as they were too strange.

It was recommended not to inherit a Chaos Sequence, as it usually didn’t bode well for the owner.

That man’s ability seemed like some kind of mind control or telekinesis power. He stayed far away because he didn’t focus as much on his physical abilities, but in return, his mental power was strong enough to subdue a beast of Namadra’s size, even if it was only for a second.

He focused on mentally weakening the beast and controlling its movements to create opportunities.

’Natalia’s doing most of the damage, but it looks like her power is more suited for either close combat or AOE damage. She can’t deal the final blow on a beast like this.’

That was why there were three people present.

The second man fighting alongside Natalia used Physical Sequences in tandem with an Elemental Sequence to form the base of his power. Judging from the spear in his hand, he was a dedicated close combat fighter.

For the majority of this battle, he took a secondary role. He stood behind Natalia and attacked in order to create openings for her, allowing her to lead.

After all, his role didn’t come until later.

Not until one of Namadra’s scales shattered.

When that moment came, he shot forward like a missile. His body became a streak of blue lightning that coursed through the air with a clear path.

In just seconds, he was at that beast’s thigh where that small bit of exposed flesh was located. The camera feed on the left dropped as that man fell to his knees, summoning a purple snake strong enough to paralyze Namadra’s entire body.

Natalia stood with a portal of darkness below her right at the beast’s feet, holding it down so it couldn’t stumble.

And in that situation, the man pulled his spear back, still coursing with lightning.

Gio could faintly make out that some words were mumbled, but he couldn’t make them out over the radio static.

All he knew was that they undoubtedly titled that force.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

All three screens flickered white, with the leftmost one regaining clarity first.

An enormous amount of lightning concentrated into a single point was thrust forward with inhuman strength and speed. The explosion that followed didn’t just consist of lightning.

A rain of blood poured to the ground.

A howling roar filled the air.

Namadra had lost its leg.
