Chapter 48: Early Reunion [2]

Chapter 48: Early Reunion [2]

As they flew away, Gio could only watch the scene below.

Natalia’s body faded into a small blip in the sand, but even when they were several kilometers away, he could still see that beast and hear its roars.

Was she fighting that beast?

’How strong is she? The size of that thing is no joke...’

Size didn’t always mean power, but the fact that a mountain turned into dust from just its movements made it clear that this wasn’t one of those cases.

Gio was worried that she would die for his sake, but perhaps he was thinking too much?

’Nobody else reacted at all.’

His brows were furrowed in thought for the entirety of the flight. The aircraft moved fast, leaving the battle behind too quickly for him to see what was happening.

They arrived at the zephyr even quicker. It had been at most ten minutes when they arrived below the larger plane and were pulled into its cargo bay.

Raymond was there waiting for them.

"I didn’t expect us to meet again so soon," he said with a smile on his face.

Gio rolled his eyes.

"Right, as if you haven’t been monitoring me for months now."

He said it snarkily, but there wasn’t any hostility in his tone.

"More importantly, your subordinate is in danger. Do you have the time to be conversing so casually?"

Raymond raised his brow curiously.

"Natalia? Are you worried about her?"

"She saved my life. It would be a shame if she died before I could thank her."

A small smile appeared on Raymond’s face as he heard the words.

"If that’s what you’re worried about, then it isn’t a problem. Come with me first."

Gio’s attitude was influenced by Raymond’s. He saw a beast that was too strong to be so close to Haven, so he was shaken up, especially since he didn’t remember it from his previous life, but it seemed it wasn’t something he had to worry about.

Well, that was the hope, but he couldn’t be sure until he’d confirmed it.

Raymond walked through the zephyr and led Gio to the main control room. They were met by countless monitors lining the walls that displayed all sorts of information.

"Look over there."

Raymond directed Gio’s attention at a specific set of three monitors situated at the center of the left wall. His eyes widened slightly when he looked at them.

They were currently running camera feeds that displayed the scene of the endless Wilds.

And, of course, the sight of the beast that Gio left behind.

The dust cloud had cleared now. The rubble of the mountain was left behind as the beast pushed towards where Gio was only minutes ago.

Its scales were dark and gritty. Gio could see the detailed imperfections across its body even through the dust and the lens flare.

It really was too tall to comprehend. It was a size that would be catastrophic if it reached anywhere near a human settlement.

"This is the ruler of the Inner Territory. It’s a named beast because of its position, but it isn’t as capable as you’re thinking."

Raymond’s voice entered Gio’s ears with information flowing through them.

A named beast was a beast that the governments or other institutions had been keeping their eyes on. It was named so it could be classified properly. For it to be a named beast meant it was a significant power, but it also meant that the forces of this world were aware of its presence.

In other words, if it got anywhere near going beyond their control, it would have been dead already.

The three cameras that were broadcasting the view weren’t floating invisibly in the air.

The one in the center was most obvious. At the feet of that person, black shadows gathered and coalesced according to her killing intent.

Natalia was the owner of that camera feed.

The other two were moving as well. None of them were stationary, and none of them kept their distance from the beast.

In fact, with every moment, they approached closer.

Gio watched intently as he listened to Raymond speak.

"Natalia is the Vice Captain of our squad, second only to me. She only went after you because you went to the Wilds. The spies on you before were nowhere near her level, but since our current objective is here, she joined to get a look at you herself."

"Your original objective?" Gio repeated.

"Yeah," Raymond said, nodding his head with a smile.

"Namadra."

His arm raised. His finger was pointed directly at the beast in question.

"My subordinates needed a little bit of exercise, so I gave them homework. I guess they decided the head of that beast was enough to complete the assignment."

Gio realized one thing very clearly in that moment.

He had been severely underestimating the strength of Raymond and his team.

They sent three people together to deal with the beast named Namadra. According to Raymond’s continued explanation, it was a Tier 5 beast at the moment. It was the spawn of a beast called Denera that terrorized the world several decades ago, which was why the world’s forces had been watching it.

It was a perfect specimen to study if one wanted to understand the natural inclinations of beasts and their territorial habits. It was born to be the ruler of a territory, but it had also been known by humans since birth.

It had been watched all this time, but enough information had already been collected. Since it had reached Tier 5, it couldn’t be allowed to grow any further.

’No wonder why I didn’t hear about it in the past.’

The beast’s death was probably recorded somewhere, but the information was relatively insignificant. It wasn’t strange for it to be something Gio never came across.

’And if this was their original intent, then it is a part of history that would have taken place regardless of my existence, no?’

He thought he placed Natalia into a battle she couldn’t win because of his movements. It wasn’t just a matter of understanding the stupidity of his thoughts. He came back to change the timeline into one where the best of humanity wasn’t sacrificed needlessly. For him to cause such a needless death...

He shook his head.

’It was a needless worry.’

It was spawned by his concerns about regressing and affecting the past. Really, it was far too overblown to have appeared in this scenario.

This was not the time to be worried.

This was the time to be proud of the power of humanity.

Gio watched the screens on the wall with that intent.

Natalia’s main power was related to controlling darkness. That much was easy to discover. The two who helped her were special in their own ways as well.

They both seemed to be men. One was similar to Seb in that he used strength and speed enhancement Sequences, but he also used lightning to boost his attack power.

The last remained at a distance with his hand out in front of him. Strange waves of purple-pink energy left his palm in rings, pushing towards the beast and impacting it in various parts of its body.

Those attacks had no external impact, but that didn’t mean they were useless.

’A Psychic Sequence. Along with the Darkness Sequence that Natalia uses, this team is full of things that aren’t easy to find.’

Gio cast a glance at Raymond one more time before watching the fight to its end.

Was the man he met randomly after leaving the mine really just an Investigative Officer?
