Chapter 262: Bloodless Crypt [6]

Whoosh!

Gio was only concerned for a moment.

He knew that the three of them were all relatively newer to real combat. It wasn’t safe to leave them alone to figure everything out by themselves. There was a good chance that they’d get injured in the process.

On the other hand, if he always babied them, they would take a long time to learn simple lessons they needed to experience. He saw them grit their teeth and push through the difficulties it took to reach this point, so it was about time for him to start giving them a little more credit.

The girl said she would give the order to kill. She believed Gio was following her because of this threat.

However, the threat meant nothing to him. In fact, he believed in his heart that he would return to his comrades standing over their enemies.

He rushed through the tunnels with the girl’s back always in his sight. The silver tempest she left in her wake was aggressive and always trying subtly to harm him, but he didn’t allow her to get her way before they reached their destination.

They went back in the direction Gio’s party came from and further into the other path that Gio didn’t choose. They finally stopped after reaching a decently sized room in front of another metal door.

The girl turned around to face him, her eyes cold.

"Your name," she said.

"I’m not giving it to you. Are you stupid?" Gio responded immediately.

"Are you related to that person?"

"You’re asking questions without context and expecting me to understand them."

"No, you understand them. I can see it. If you’re with him, then why do you want to kill me? He is..."

Even if that man was hostile, he had no killing intent. He was supposedly a part of VNGRD himself, so it was only natural.

She sensed an energy from this boy that felt just like the energy that man used. However, it was different. It was vaguer and harder to read, and its owner wanted her neck.

"You’re not like him?"

"I already told you not to talk to me if you aren’t willing to answer questions."

"Be cooperative before I force you."

Gio’s eyes narrowed.

"I think we already established that you’re not the person you think you are."

Voom!

His aura flared.

"If you want to talk, then start with a name. Otherwise, just draw your weapons."

He didn’t know what she was trying to accomplish with such an odd attitude and he wasn’t trying to entertain it. Virtual energy flew into the air around her, bringing a frown to the girl’s face.

"You want me dead, but you’re with him...is it a grudge against me?"

"It is."

Boom!

Gio shot forward and cut at her with a sword that she blocked immediately.

"We can’t both exist in this world. Either you die, I die, or it dies."

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

He used his energy as an extension of his sword, making technique his main power. The girl’s silver energy was also in the air, but it only swarmed around him as if waiting for something specific before attacking.

The two of them exchanged several tens of strikes in the next few seconds.

"I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before," the girl said as she dodged Gio’s massive blade and cut upward with her own.

"There’s no reason for you to feel so strongly. I want to know why you want me dead, and I want to know why you think you have the right to challenge me."

Shing!

Gio swung his body backwards to avoid a cut that almost tore open his sternum before twisting his waist impossibly to avoid the trajectory of her second sword.

"You want to know my name so badly. You don’t even know who I am, do you?"

"I don’t," Gio responded honestly. He rolled away and threw his sword at her. The virtual energy exploded as a new weapon appeared in his hand.

"But that means nothing. My reasoning shouldn’t matter to you. Focus on keeping your life instead."

Bang!

He slammed forward. The girl cut diagonally at him and raised her other sword in anticipation of his attack, but he swerved through both of them and turned his body sideways, driving his shoulder into the girl’s chest.

A huge wave of energy exploded against her body, throwing her into the wall. Her body hit it with a loud sound. She peeled herself off the clay and stepped forward only to be caught by the neck and pushed back against it.

Gio wasn’t satisfied. He wanted a sweet revenge where she felt the horror she made him feel before dying. He pulled out a physical knife rather than summoning one with energy and pressed it against her neck so he could feel the visceral sensation of her skin against the blade.

"Your name."

It wasn’t important to him. He couldn’t care less about her name. It was merely a childish desire to win that drove him to force the question.

The girl gritted her teeth, feeling the drops of blood making their way down her neck.

Her aura swirled to life, but the moment it appeared in the world, Gio pushed the knife deeper.

He couldn’t bring himself to take the last step. Winning like this didn’t accomplish anything.

He wanted dominance over the Draconians as a whole. She was the one who stood out to him because she was his age when it all happened, however, the damage done to his clan wasn’t just her fault.

He wanted her and her Master who led that faction to watch as he tore VNGRD apart with his bare hands before he took their lives. He wanted them to experience misery.

His killing intent rose with every thought. The blood-red aura oozed into his energy and entered the girl’s body through every pore and opening. It traveled to her mind, showing her the scenes of death he envisioned for her.

The bloodlust was more horrifying than any she’d felt before. For a second, she even believed that the bloodlust she’d felt from her superiors was minuscule in comparison.

"Ra- Raven..."

It slipped out of her mouth. She despised herself for speaking, but it wasn’t an instinct she could control.

Gio’s eyes narrowed. He could almost guarantee that it was a code name, but he’d achieved his goal either way.

"Realize it here, Raven. Even if you don’t die here, you’ll die the second you meet me again. Never think for a second that you’re being let go because of your own skill."

He pushed the knife deeper. He could feel her jugular under the blade. A single push would send her over the edge.

Gio looked at the blood flowing from the cut, considering for a moment what would happen if he killed her immedia–

VOOM!

He barely lost grip of the knife, unintentionally allowing it to push deeper. The moment it made even the slightest bit of contact with her vital artery, a flash of pure silver energy exploded into the world, throwing Gio back with an amount of force that shouldn’t have been possible in the suppressed world.

Gio didn’t know what caused it. He knew it wasn’t Raven’s power, but that meant nothing.

The tables had already turned.

See, he had done a lot of talking when he was in an advantageous position just like she’d done moments ago.

She had an extremely furious expression on her face just like the one he carried moments ago.

And she wanted him to feel much more pain than what he’d inflicted on her.

He took the first victory, but their battle had only just begun.
