Chapter 209: Entering The Academy [5]

Every day at the First Institute began in a student’s homeroom class. They would have general study lectures there before moving on to specialized courses.

The curriculum at the First Institute was set in some ways. One was required to reach a specific number of class credits before one could move on to the next year. A total number of credits was necessary for graduation as well.

It was up to students how they wanted to earn their credits, but they needed to at least reach the necessary number for each type. For instance, one could not ignore normal math or science classes just because one believed they were useless for Sequencers.

Sequencers also had to be adults who could manage their lives in the real world. Perhaps the lessons themselves wouldn’t breed those skills or that knowledge, but the experience certainly would.

Tomorrow, on the first day of class, the very first thing they’d be taught was how Sequencing worked.

Among the knowledge present in that lecture was "how to get stronger."

The overall improvement of a Bloodline relied on four main things that humanity had categorized: Purity, Density, Spirituality, and Inheritance.

Purity was self-explanatory. As impurities were filtered out of the Bloodline, it was able to display more of its true nature, naturally enhancing not necessarily one’s body, but one’s traits. For instance, increasing the purity of Gio’s Bloodline would have a more minimal effect on his strength, instead improving the regeneration he gained from the blood.

Density was equally self-explanatory. There were methods to make one’s Bloodline denser and thicker. It would flow more powerfully through one’s body, providing more and more strength to every facet of one’s body. This was the primary factor tied to pure physical strength and defense.

Spirituality was a bit vaguer of a word, but in this case, it wasn’t used so vaguely. Simply, Spirituality referred to the amount and purity of energy carried within the Bloodline. That energy was the apostle of its core traits, spreading their effects throughout the body. By increasing Spirituality, one would see a comprehensive increase in both strength and traits, however, the true benefit of Spirituality was elsewhere.

Because Spirituality opened the way for Inheritance.

Inheritance was a part of Bloodline Evolution that not many could reach. At that point, when the energy, purity, and density of a bloodline reach a high enough level that they either match or surpass the original Bloodline that was inherited.

At that point, the Bloodline became something new, a product of the human who now owned it.

Such Bloodlines were special in more ways than one. The one the public knew about was Inheritance.

Through Inheritance, one could not only receive the abilities of the beast they inherited the blood of, but they could also eventually take a form similar to it, bringing out the true extent of its power. This form, where they could use their Bloodlines and Sequences to the absolute height of their potential, was the true form of a Sequencer.

A Bloodline Enhancer taken by a newbie who was barely a Stage 1 Sequencer couldn’t get anywhere near Inheritance. These kinds of Enhancers either focused on Purity or Density exclusively.

The one Gio took was focused on Purity.

Gene Sequences and Bloodline Sequences both caused pain during the absorption process because they were changing the body’s core structure into something greater. Enhancers and similar products weren’t the same.

When the fluid inside the syringe flowed into his arm, Gio felt a rush of warmth spread through his body. He stretched as a wave of tiredness overcame him, not even feeling the changes that took place within him.

Once there was no liquid left, he put down the syringe and watched the wound on his arm close itself.

’It takes a while to absorb something like this before you’re used to it. I don’t think the effects will really settle until the middle of the night.’

Gio looked outside his window. It took a while for the delivery to arrive, so it was dark. The sun set around an hour ago, but...

’If I won’t finish absorbing this until two or three in the morning, there’s no point in trying to sense every change that takes place.’

To control the changes was impossible. His Bloodline would receive a comprehensive upgrade that could potentially even push him to Origin Level 1-2, but only one specific trait would receive the majority of the enhancement.

’If I need one more than the others, it’s regeneration. It’s also the most likely to be enhanced since it’s a more gentle trait that’s easier to influence.’

He shrugged to himself.

’I was hoping it’d be a Density-focused enhancer, but there’s nothing I can do about that. Any improvement is a good improvement.’

Enhancers were only the easiest method to grow. As long as he was willing to struggle, Gio could increase both Density and Spirituality without any help.

’I have...around four or five months until the attack happens. The original date was almost five months from now, but I doubt that it didn’t change.’

Too much about the situation had been affected by the Blue Steel Squadron’s activities in the Wasteland. Either the attack would be pushed forward or backwards, but it would not stay on the same date.

’I need to be at Origin Level 1-3 or higher before that happens. The strongest beasts they used are way above my level, but they were handled by teachers and faculty. Nobody died among their ranks.’

However, as they were occupied dealing with the beasts that could eliminate all of Celestelle, the students had to face those in the First Institute. In the time before the teachers could return, over five thousand students died.

’I don’t have enough time to turn everyone necessary to my side. I have to focus on those who can make the most difference. I won’t be able to save everyone...’

He couldn’t be the hero who stood in the spotlight as humanity’s ultimate savior.

’...but I can do my best to make sure those who fill that role in the future survive.’

Gio exhaled deeply.

It was the end of August now. By the start of January, he had to reach Origin Level 1-3.

And in the next three years, he had to jump from there to either the end of Sprouthood or the beginning of his path as an Experienced Sequencer.

’It’s an expedited path compared to anything I’ve ever seen or heard of. It usually takes around ten years to hit the Experienced State.. The first goal is attainable as long as I’m diligent. The second will take more than just hard work.’

He was aware of that much for a long time. His plans didn’t just involve fighting the enemies of the world, after all. He knew well what kind of effort he had to put in to become as strong as he wanted in the time he had.

’But all of that is for the future.’

In the future, his pace would increase exponentially, giving him the ability to do far more within just the span of a year.

He only had to take it slow while he was building his foundation.

With such thoughts in his head, Gio called it an early night, knowing that an early morning was soon to follow.

The changes in his body proceeded smoothly. The Bloodline Enhancer worked its magic and fused into his blood, dispersing its effects through his chest and into his extremities.

To say he would wake up as a different person was a stretch.

However, as he said, any improvement was a good improvement.

He would be stronger than he was the day before, and nothing else mattered.
