Chapter 186: Entrance Ceremony [6]

Boooom!

From Gio’s perspective, it was far more terrifying. The moment those two swords touched the earth, everything around him was disturbed.

The ground trembled fiercely, the trees screamed as the ground they called home was destroyed, and all of a sudden, it was like he was back in the Wasteland.

Like a sandworm was charging at him from afar, the ground tore apart into two halves. Dirt, grass, and rock flew everywhere. Just dodging to the sides wasn’t enough. The force spread and dispersed to the sides, so that would be the same as throwing himself into flames to avoid an inferno.

With gritted teeth, Gio charged into the sky, knowing the consequences he would face by doing so.

Neriah acted on his expectations. She obviously wouldn’t miss the chance to take him out while he was mostly immobile.

An array of sword crescents flew into the sky around him, forcing him to twist and spin. He pushed virtual energy into his feet to move out of the way, but he was a second too late.

"Khh...!"

His shoulder should’ve been torn open, but it didn’t happen like that. Just before the crescent could touch him, a blue barrier appeared around his body and protected him from a majority of the impact. He still bled and he still felt the force of her slash, but Neriah couldn’t cause a crippling injury with just this much.

’It wasn’t me.’

Gio didn’t look at the barrier for more than a second, but he knew for a fact that he didn’t create it. If it was a student protection mechanism, it would only take so many hits before it determined that he had lost the battle.

He didn’t know what would happen at that point, but he knew he didn’t want to find out.

Another group of crescents shot at him from the ground. This time, he was prepared. He barrelled towards the ground before they reached him. His body was covered in a virtual blue armor that expanded and solidified into a large set of armor.

Boom!

He hit the ground like a comet, sending a shockwave in all directions. Neriah raised her swords to block it, giving Gio enough time to right himself and throw his hand out.

His eyes turned a glowing blue color as his energy moved through a predetermined path and manifested itself into the world.

[Siege Armament]

He memorized the creation method for numerous weapons and ingrained into his very core the exact path necessary to create each one. He trained for over a year, putting those paths together one by one until, finally, the product was complete.

From his back and arms, weapons of all kinds rose up, formed by virtual blue light. The "Siege Armament" wasn’t something he created. It was what he himself became in this form.

[Burst]

With one command, every weapon fired at the same time. Virtual blue missiles, grenades, and bullets of all calibers rained down on the world around Neriah. Her eyes widened, but responding was out of the question.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

It was an explosion of light like a fireworks show. It could be guaranteed with this attack that the vultures approaching them had turned their backs and fled.

Within the chaos, Neriah desperately raised her energy and defended herself. Her eyes darted around in search of an escape as she felt the protective barrier around her weakening.

Until now, her student protection barrier didn’t appear even a single time. These past three days, she’d only seen it on others.

Yet, not only was it activated here for the first time, but it was also about to break. She couldn’t stay still if she didn’t want to lose meaninglessly.

’Tch.’

With her teeth gritted, Neriah pushed herself back as far as she could, using her enemy’s own force to propel herself backwards. In the same motion, she pushed her arms into the air and threw her swords back into the black holes through which they came.

Reaching inside, she found herself new weapons to bring to fruition.

In a sense, the current state of [Virtual Manifestation] was very similar to her Original Gene, [Armament Creation]. Any weapon she could create could be created as a real physical product. She could then store them within a space created by the Sequence to be used at will.

She’d created over fifty weapons at this point in life. Naturally, she wasn’t just skilled in close combat.

’He will be expecting another approach.’

As she’d been fighting, the next logical step was to push past the explosions and strike him at close range.

Instead of following the pattern she’d set, she jumped in the air as Gio had done prior. In her hands was now a massive sniper without a scope. Her eyes were more than enough.

Gio’s eyes flicked to the sky as her silhouette entered his peripheral, but he couldn’t have expected it.

Right when he saw the gun and heard the "Bang!" it made, a bullet arrived in front of his face.

His senses went on high alert. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he kicked his feet back and dropped to the ground.

Xiu!

He felt it against the top of his head. He felt the trail it left and the newly bloodied patch on his skull.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

That was the extent of his thoughts about the close call before a rain of bullets came back at him. Unlike his, these were real. They were true physical constructs that embedded themselves into the ground and spun until they lost their momentum.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

He wasn’t fast enough to dodge a bullet yet. He had no choice but to move backwards while using a barrier to protect himself.

Even as Neriah fell back to the ground and landed, she didn’t let up. She shot until she ran out of ammo before summoning new magazines like nothing. She swapped between her sniper, an automatic machine gun, and several different pistols while charging back into the clearing.

She jumped into the air once more. Her weapon switched, and Gio instantly reacted.

Because she was no longer holding a "gun."

Boom!

A rocket flew from the launcher on her shoulder and exploded against the ground.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

It was followed by many more. Whenever Neriah needed to reload, she just switched to a different weapon, saving herself more than enough time to fire over and over again.

Gio skirted through the explosions, zig-zagging and keeping himself away from the main bodies of their eruptions.

While he was preoccupied, Neriah grabbed another weapon and launched a rocket in the opposite direction, driving her momentum into the ground.

The weapon was replaced by swords in an instant. Neriah crossed them over her chest with her eyes trained on Gio. What she was going to do didn’t need explanation.

Gio saw her and the explosions at the same time. He saw the cracks on the ground below him and the ten or so trees that fell during their collision.

’Wait–’

Suddenly, as he moved, the ground crumbled beneath his feet.

In his passing thoughts, he’d brought up something that he didn’t truly consider.

Gio didn’t think much of the cracks in the ground. They were fighting quite seriously, so it was only natural for the environment to take damage.

Everything about that conclusion would have fallen apart if he had just paid a little more attention. If he had taken the time to look back, he would have realized that those cracks were far too deep to be made by him or Neriah alone.

But it was already too late to be making that realization.

BOOM!

Neriah hit the ground like a meteor. Everything shook, dust and debris went flying everywhere, Gio was sent flying away by a shockwave...

’Shit.’

...and the ground caved in, dropping both him and Neriah into a deep blackness hidden below the surface of the world.
