Transcendent Gene
Chapter 159: First Sequence [3]

Chapter 159: First Sequence [3]

It wasn’t as if Gio had any reason to withhold his past from his father. If anything, he was even more inclined to tell the man how he’d lived life so they could start to understand each other better.

Unfortunately, the answers he wanted didn’t particularly exist in the past that Gio could talk about. Everything that made him curious was rooted in the fact that he regressed.

Nevertheless, Gio still entertained the question and told Kyrian about the life he’d lived from start to finish. It was a long and dreary story, but Kyrian listened without missing a word until the end.

"Haa..."

He sighed, unknowing of what to say.

"Perhaps it is because you had to struggle and fight for survival for so long. Maybe the universe decided to bless you this time."

Gio raised an eyebrow questioningly.

"Look at these results," Kyrian said, pushing the packet towards him.

Gio did as he was told. Within that report, he really only found numbers he expected.

His physical state far surpassed the ordinary teenager his age, his Bloodline read as an error, and he had four Gene Slots he could fill with abilities.

He already knew all of this information, but to his father who was learning it all presently, there were several ways for it to be confusing.

"Your physical state is the result of your efforts. Your Gene Slots...I don’t know. Perhaps you inherited them from your mother, because barely anyone else in our clan has ever had more than two or three. Finally, your Bloodline..."

Kyrian shook his head.

"I was told that they ran several tests to decipher why an error was appearing. The most our clan’s scientists were able to find was that it must be somewhere at the very peak of Nova Grade Bloodlines. Otherwise, there’s no way for the machine to get confused."

’So that’s how they’re rationalizing it.’

"And if it truly is of the highest tier of Nova Grade, then we absolutely cannot let anyone else see the sample we took. For your safety, I had the lab destroy the sample and any evidence of those tests. We will provide false information to NEXUS to make your life easier."

Gio nodded slowly as he set down the packet and looked back at his father.

"So, what do we do next?"

"Well, we train you. I know you said you got combat experience, but fighting in the city is different from fighting in the Wasteland. You have to be mindful of the damage you cause and the people around you. As such, I’ll make sure you learn how to properly control your power so you don’t cause any tragedies."

Kyrian still didn’t know how Gio acquired his bloodline. He still didn’t know how many times Gio had looked death in the eyes.

He just thought it was fate.

He believed the world rewarded Gio for his struggles and gave him such a powerful bloodline.

Truthfully, he and many others had the desire to sit Gio down and properly interrogate him. Within the day and a half that he’d been at the mansion, he’d already shown several suspicious behaviors.

Frankly, there were many people in the estate as a whole who believed Gio only accepted Kyrian’s invitation to use the Atmos Clan as a stepping stone for his own goals.

Regardless of whether those goals were good or bad, nobody wanted someone like that to become a part of the clan. They especially didn’t want such a person to suddenly become first-in-line for the seat of Family Head.

The other two children were too young to think about how their positions were being threatened, so others were doing it for them.

However, Kyrian felt strange.

Whenever he looked into Gio’s eyes, he saw the unending love of a son for his father. It was an unmistakable look as it was one of the expressions that made Kyrian the happiest person in the world. He didn’t doubt that Gio truly had a desire to be a part of this family.

However...

’Gio is living a life apart from us.’

Currently, he was living a life that he wasn’t willing to share. Even when he told of his adventures with the so-called "Blue Steel Squadron," he summarized the bits that Kyrian felt were most important.

’I believe Gio has already begun to live as a Sequencer even without a Sequence. Now that he has one, I’m afraid he’ll entertain more dangerous ideas once I give him a Gene Sequence...but can I do anything about it?’

He didn’t want to do anything about it. He had no interest in stopping his son from living as he pleased as long as he could guarantee safety.

’And to guarantee safety, I must train him myself until he goes to the First Institute for proper education.’

"Are you tired?" Kyrian asked.

Gio shook his head. He’d spent almost the entire day asleep, so he was currently the furthest thing from tired.

"Good," Kyrian said with a nod.

"Follow me. I’ll take you somewhere."

He didn’t say outright where they were going, but his mysteriousness was killed by context clues.

He’d already told Gio where they’d go if his results were good, didn’t he?

They walked through the halls of the mansion until they reached the main library. There, Kyrian approached the reception desk and tapped on it. The servant sitting there calmly pushed a button under the desk as they walked by.

The library’s windows were covered by metal shutters that couldn’t be seen through the blinds from the outside. The floor pulled itself apart, rearranging like puzzle pieces until all the tables in the open central area were pushed against the corners of the room.

The center was left bare apart from a small opening that led into a winding staircase. Kyrian led Gio down said staircase until they reached the vault door below.

"This vault exists specifically to store Sequences our family has collected over the years. There are both Gene and Bloodline Sequences inside, but they’re categorized properly so you won’t have trouble finding what you want."

Kyrian moved towards the vault door and undid the several security measures blocking their entry.

"Only the Clan Head and the officially recognized heir have the ability to open this door, but neither can do so without declaring their intention to do so beforehand. Even this time I had to inform the council."

Countermeasures were necessary to prevent an immature Clan Head or Young Master from carelessly using these Sequences as they pleased. Kyrian definitely had to fight hard to get the council to agree to this visit, even.

He didn’t say a single word about the struggle that must have been.

"I’ll come with you because I have to ensure that you only take one thing," he said as the vault door depressurized and swung open.

"But I won’t follow you, so don’t feel pressured by me. Pick only what you want. Everything in this vault is good, so there’s no need to think that you’ll be limiting yourself with your pick."

The area beyond the vault door looked similar to a lab that was missing all of its equipment. Replacing that equipment were rows of glass shelves filled to the brim with Sequences.

On the left were Bloodline Sequences and on the right, glowing with an electric blue haze and filled with strange particles were the Gene Sequences.

’Finally.’

Stepping into the room, Gio took a deep breath and set his eyes to the right.

The final ingredient of his fresh start was here.

He just needed to separate it from the masses.
