Chapter 154: Bloodline Inheritance [2]
Celestelle had a different vibe from Helix, but Gio hadn’t had a chance to feel it quite yet. When he followed Farrah through her door, he found himself surrounded by clean white walls and the scent of sanitation.
"I hope you weren’t expecting a tour of the city or anything," Farrah said, glancing over at him through the huge glasses on her face.
"If you came as a First Institute prospect, I’d give you all of that, but you’re here as someone who’s claiming to be a researcher, so it’s different."
"That’s not true," Gio replied as she led him through the halls. He looked from side to side through the glass panels showing the connected rooms, all of which were filled with machinery and lab workers.
"I wouldn’t call myself a researcher by any definition of the word. Think of me more like a medium. I know of a lot of theories and ideas that other people made, and it’s become a duty on my shoulders to make sure those ideas come to life."
Naturally, he wasn’t talking about the Bloodline Sequence he came to fuse. He didn’t plan to tell Farrah about that.
She only knew that he needed to use one of her labs. He could conveniently mask his true purpose with another true purpose he held in his mind.
"You’re a big talker," she said as they reached a door. She placed her thumb on a pad before hiding it and typing in a numeric password as well.
With a subtle click, the door unlocked, allowing them into the room beyond.
"This is the lab I’ll give you access to if you can impress me," she said, spreading her arms.
"It has every type of machine you could want. Since this was originally a place for people to be trained on how to use advanced machines, it has anything you could want."
Gio scanned his gaze across the room and nodded. Among those machines were the three he needed for the creation of a Bloodline Sequence. As for whether they were powerful enough or not, the fact that they took an entire wall for themselves was enough of an answer.
"I don’t know what you want to use this place for," Farrah said, "but if you want to use my facilities as you please, you need to show me that you’re worth the investment. This room is worth more than your soul and your entire family, so I won’t let you near anything without a guarantee."
’My soul and my family specifically are probably both worth more than this room, but I get her point.’
She just wanted to see that he understood what he was dealing with.
"What do you need me to do?" He asked.
Farrah shook her head.
"That’s not the question you should be asking. The real question is: What can you do?"
Gio shrugged. He could assume what every machine in the room did, and though he wasn’t a scientist, he excelled at interpreting data. It was, perhaps, one of the things the [Memory Book] was best at.
"I’m confident in doing any task you ask of me as long as it isn’t too technical. When it comes to working the machines, I won’t say I’m good at everything, but if you give me data, I can really show my skills."
"Hmm...?"
Farrah raised a brow in interest.
"Fine. If you’re so confident, then we can do it that way. Give me a moment."
She pressed a button on the side of her holowatch and instantly sent a call somewhere.
"Yuna, bring me the most recent dataset we’ve put together. It doesn’t matter what it’s about, but grab something on the level of a senior intern and bring it to the training lab as soon as possible."
"Understood, Ma’am," said the voice from the other side.
"I will be there in two minutes."
"Good. This is why you’re my only assistant, Yuna."
"I am always thankful for your praise, Ma’am."
The woman named Yuna curtly accepted the compliment and ended the call. Farrah easily turned back to Gio and continued their conversation.
"Naturally, what you need to find will change depending on what Yuna brings, but I want a proper analysis from you, and I want you to use at least one of the machines in this room to do it. If you need any materials, I’ll give them to you, but only if I feel they’re necessary. If you can do everything you’re claiming, I’ll leave you alone to use the lab..."
Farrah hummed for a second before continuing.
"...and if you impress me enough, I’ll even give you a proper internship at the lab."
It was a serious offer and one that most people couldn’t ignore. Taurus-Rauth was an immense company and receiving both the grace and interest of a Head Researcher at one of their branches was practically the start to being set for life.
Gio, however, wasn’t overflowing with excitement. He did plan to come to the lab often to form relationships with Farrah and her people, but he had no interest in tying himself down to Tauruso-Rauth.
"We can talk about the internship later," he said.
"For now, being able to use the lab is enough."
"Suit yourself," Farrah replied with a shrug.
They waited a bit longer until the woman named Yuna entered the room with a laptop in her hands.
"Ma’am, I have brought the data."
"Good," Farrah said with a nod.
"Give it to him. You can go back to your original duties after that."
"Yes, Ma’am."
Yuna hardly even looked at Gio before dropping the laptop off to him and leaving. To her, Gio was the same as any other young genius who tried to impress her boss.
In the end, they’d all fail. The ones who succeeded would quit a little later after finding out what working in a lab was really like.
Unaware of her thoughts, Gio unlocked the laptop and looked at the screens that popped up in front of his eyes. Farrah also came to stand behind him and look at the data.
"Can you tell what this dataset is about?" she asked.
Gio nodded. A quick scan of the data was enough to understand that much.
"It’s about the failure rate of Sequence Creation from Demon Tigers."
Demon Tigers were all related to the Dark Demon Tiger in some way, but none of them were nearly as powerful. In fact, in most cases, the rate of similarity was lower than ten percent.
However, due to the damage the Dark Demon Tiger caused, people were obsessed with it. Demon Tiger Bloodlines were highly sought out purely due to that small chance of relation.
According to the data, Demon Tiger Bloodlines were actually much harder to synthesize than ordinary Sequences. It was as if the Essence Blood itself was fighting against the "taming" humanity was trying to do.
"I can tell that you guys have been trying to find the cause of this phenomenon, but what do you want me to do...? If you want me to use one of these machines to prove myself, are you asking me to try synthesizing it myself?"
Farrah grinned.
"Why not? You don’t need to succeed in the synthesis or find the cause. Just try it out once and tell me your conclusions. If they meet my standards, I’ll call it a pass."
Gio wasn’t going to argue. It was actually more convenient this way, since he would get a test run before synthesizing his own Sequence.
"Alright," he said, an air of confidence settling into his gaze.
"Give me the materials. I’m ready."
