Chapter 72: A lunch among them

They bathed in the warmth of the forest, in a serenity unmatched by the tower’s usual chaos.

-Swiiiiiiiiiish~.

A soft hush clung to the open area the two of them had found themselves in, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves above them and the distant song of birds that couldn’t quite decide if it was day or dusk.

Sparkling sunlight spilled lazily through the thick veil of branches above, falling in quiet patches on the moss covered ground. The air was warm and cool all at once, scented faintly with softly moist bark, crushed leaves, and the still water of a small puddle nearby that caught the sky like a pure mirror.

"It’s cozy here."

"Isn’t it?"

They sat close, legs crossed into each other, fingers locked, and backs curved in comfort rather than tension.

KiRA leaned forward, elbows on her knees, eyes half-lidded as if trying to remember the way the sunlight danced between the swaying boughs. The other had tilted her face sidewards to the partner beside her, her hand sunk into the rough hands bruised by the fights until now.

-Shrrrrrrrrrrr...

Above them, the thick foliage cradled the clearing in a gentle dome of green, the leaves shifting like a lullaby with each breeze.

"How did you find it?" She asked, lost in the red eyes that gleamed with hope and purity.

"By chance, just like every other thing we found in that tower." He looked back at her while answering, at her pretty eyes, his heart urging him to do something to this pretty lady.

A few leaves drifted down, brushing against shoulders and hair before settling softly to the ground. Neither of them bothered to brush them away, their gentle touch did not seem to them as the sky’s descent to a certain rabbit.

"Iz..."

They gazed at one another.

Words didn’t seem necessary in this place, at this point.

The silence between them felt as alive as the kind shared between people who had walked through enough noise to understand the value of stillness, those who had been through enough chaos to understand the true worth of moments like these.

-Drop...

The puddle to their side rippled faintly as a leaf touched its surface, its reflection shivering into a blur of gold and green.

The golden-feathered white bird watched it quietly from the top of a branch as if the water held answers. Maybe it did, mundane answers no one needed to know.

"We should eat," she murmured.

And the other only nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"We should..." Leaning closer, he whispered in her ear before pressing his lips to her earlobe, and then to her neck... and then to her lips.

-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish...

For just a little while, the forest had made room for them. And in that small pocket of peace, time seemed willing to wait.

"Chiiip?"

The moment that seemed to be stretching further came to an unhurried end when a bird landed beside the puddle for a drink.

"We should really eat now. Food, not... each other. Food." She was shy usually, but not in moments like these. Not in moments that were theirs alone.

"Right." With another smile, he finished what he was doing, taking another minute, before moving to the side and taking out a rug, and placing it on the ground.

"You... you can’t even wait for the night, darling." She helped him and watched as more birds and creatures of the forest started walking out from all around them, all for a little drink from the clear water.

"How could anyone, Miss? You’re irresistible." KiRA watched the creatures as well, drawn by the simple water source containing a hint of Mana.

They were here for water, not anything else. But their mere presence around the two enhanced the scenery greatly.

"Pretty."

The creatures that walked out, the little deer with her mother, the small rabbit with green eyes, the adorable wild kitten, the tiny birds, all of them seemed to be aware of the two humans.

However, they were not hostile to them. If anything, both of them could tell the creatures here found them attractive, intriguing even.

"Is this the reason you wanted to be here?" A rabbit baby, accompanied by its three siblings and mother who all shared the same green eyes, approached Izzy.

"You could say that, surely." KiRA watched as the baby rabbit smelled Izzy’s stretched hand, the little carrot in her hands, and looked at its mother for confirmation.

It seemed like the little one wanted it, but it only accepted it after the mother walked closer and checked the baby carrot herself.

"Vii." It was safe, of course. However, it seemed like the mother rabbit liked the carrot as well.

The scene itself brought a new, warmer smile to Izzy.

"Hehe, there’s more. Don’t worry~." She offered the little ones baby carrots while giving a bigger piece to the mommy rabbit.

"Viii."

"Viii!"

"Viii~."

The babies loved it. Even the mother rabbit was happy with this human food.

And seeing this scene simply brought a smile to the two, and the bird watching from above.

"Can we share with others as well?" It was moments like these that made her extra food packing justified. But she still asked for confirmation, not knowing how dangerous these creatures could be.

"If you want to, of course you can. It’s fine." KiRA didn’t stop her this time.

In this place at least, they did not have to worry about the creatures. This (Level-30) green-eyed mother rabbit, that (Level-32) deer, and even these tiny (Level-15) birds were all safe creatures.

In a place where they all gathered for a calming sip, violence wasn’t a common thing. If anything, even the wild creatures maintained peace as they quenched their thirst.

"Hehe. They are so cute~." Izzy started playing with the rabbit babies and the baby deer after receiving KiRA’s confirmation.

These creatures liked her. Thanks to her special affinity with Mana, the creatures sensitive to Mana were naturally interested in someone so special.

"You’re more adorable than them though, you know?" He was telling her the simple truth, but it only made her flustered.

"Hehe~."

She ignored him or tried to avoid looking at him since she knew she would be all red again. But she didn’t want that and continued playing with them.

In this serene place, it was their lunchtime.

So, they were going to share their food with all these fun creatures...
