Chapter 483: Chapter 421: The Cost of Being Overly Cautious, Gaining Trust Through Deception
About half an hour later, Jing Shang returned home.
Seeing two police cars parked outside and the door wide open, he strode boldly inside.
Confronted with police officers throughout the house and the scene of utmost disarray, the originally expressionless look on his face instantly turned terrifyingly gloomy.
Before he could explode, the astonished and furious Mrs. Jing Shang had already pounced on him, sobbing as she clawed and scratched at him.
"How could you lay a hand on the principal! Now they’ve called the police, what are you going to do? And without work, how will we live? Wooo wooo."
Not all housewives are blindly obedient to their husbands, especially when the husbands don’t earn enough money.
"That’s enough. I won’t let you and our child starve," Jing Shang said, grabbing a hold of his wife’s wrist and speaking coldly.
Mrs. Jing Shang’s breath hitched at her husband’s icy gaze, and she dared not say anything more.
It was the first time she realized her husband had this side to him.
It was scary.
But at the same time, it was somewhat thrilling... such a bastard!
"Handcuff him, take him away," the impatient police superintendent, who had already waited over half an hour, ordered as he stood up.
Two officers immediately moved towards Jing Shang.
"Wait a minute," Jing Shang spoke up, looking at the superintendent with a meaningful gaze. "Officer, I have a few words to say to you. May I have a moment of your time?"
"No chance!" The superintendent unhesitatingly refused his request and mockingly revealed his thoughts, "Thinking of bribing me in a more private place? What do you take me for? I am a law enforcement officer who upholds law and justice! Not one of those lawless corrupt officials! Take him away immediately!"
This directive had come straight from the chief himself, which meant the guy must have offended the chief or one of the chief’s friends or relatives. How could he bend the rules?
And as a chemistry teacher living in such modest circumstances, he surely wouldn’t have much money to bribe the superintendent, who thus chose to hold fast to the ethical baseline of a policeman and execute the law strictly!
Upon hearing his superior’s repeated orders, the two officers, who had paused due to Jing Shang’s words, swiftly became uncompromising again. They rushed forward like wolves, forcibly pressing Jing Shang down and clamping handcuffs onto his wrists.
Jing Shang was utterly stupefied; he hadn’t foreseen that they wouldn’t give him even a sliver of a chance to buy his way out.
"Wait! Let’s talk! I’ll provide a gratuity that satisfies you all! This is just a trifle!" Jing Shang blurted out his plea.
"Smack!" The superintendent swung a slap across his face and threatened, "From now on, keep your mouth shut, or you’ll face an additional charge of bribery."
"Then let me make a phone call, at least a phone call has to be allowed, right?" Jing Shang could only try to negotiate.
The superintendent sneered, insultingly patting Jing Shang’s face as he said, "Making a phone call is a minor request that’s normally accepted, but not for you. The chief instructed us to ’take good care’ of you, which means you’ll be treated differently! How else could I explain my actions to the chief?"
"Idiot!" Jing Shang couldn’t contain his fury any longer and burst into a tirade of angry curses.
"Smack!" The superintendent delivered another slap, "Insulting an officer, you might now face a few extra days. Gag him and take him away."
As he finished speaking, he stepped outside first.
The two officers used tape to seal Jing Shang’s mouth amidst his struggle, forcibly dragging him out the door and shoving him into the car.
Soon, the two police cars departed with their sirens wailing into the distance.
Throughout the ordeal, Mrs. Jing Shang stood helplessly by, watching wide-eyed before collapsing to the floor in a flood of tears.
After arriving at the police station, Jing Shang, a mere commoner, was beaten without a chance to speak and, with no interrogation process, was thrown directly into the holding cell.
The new head of the Miyazaki family, the creator of the new synthetic drug, responsible for countless casualties and with hands stained with blood, was captured and thrown into jail just like that.
"This guy is under special orders from the chief: no visits and no phone calls for him," the arresting superintendent warned the guards before leaving.
The guards responded with respectful affirmations, "Yes, sir!"
After the superintendent left, the guard who had just been nodding and bowing straightened his back and said boastfully to the other detainees in the cell with Jing Shang, "You guys teach him the rules here."
The holding cell was mostly filled with minor offenders and those who hadn’t completed the interrogation process; it was a jumbled mix of characters.
"Sure, officer, we’ll make sure he gets used to life here right away! As his cellmates, it’s our inescapable responsibility!"
"Right, right, we guarantee he’ll obediently serve his time without causing you any trouble," other detainees quickly assured with laughter.
Life in a holding cell was unlike prison, with no opportunities for exercise or other activities, leading to extremely limited amusement. Thus, tormenting new detainees became one of their few pleasures.
So, Jing Shang was in for a rough time.
After being beaten until dizzy and collapsed like a dead dog on the floor, Jing Shang profoundly regretted being too cautious, with no one willing to bail him out even in detention.
For safety’s sake, he had always operated his criminal activities under an alias and never let his subordinates know his home address, leaving him with no contact with the outside and the outside with no contact with him.
Fortunately, during the day, Aoyama Xiu Xin had instructed Fujimoto Shizue to arrange surveillance around Jing Shang’s house.
So when Jing Shang was taken away, the officer assigned to monitoring promptly reported to Fujimoto Shizue.
And Fujimoto Shizue reported to Aoyama Xiu Xin.
