Chapter 306: Chapter 113: Show Off Skills_2 Chapter 306: Chapter 113: Show Off Skills_2 Yueyao entered the room with Ruo Lan, smiling all the while.
As soon as she entered, Yueyao gave a deep bow to Ruo Lan and said, “I am deeply grateful for everything this time, cousin-in-law, Yueyao will remember it in her heart.” She had intended to trouble her uncle originally, but unexpectedly, in the end, it was her cousin-in-law whom she had troubled. This time she really owed her cousin-in-law a great favor. It was easy to repay debts, but personal favors could be very troublesome.
Ruo Lan, with a smile, had Cai Yun help Yueyao stand up and said, “Such a trivial matter is really not worth making such a fuss over.” It might be difficult for others, but for her, it truly was a small matter.
Yueyao did not take it lightly just because Zhuang Ruolan considered it a small matter. Others might kindly help you once or twice, but it’s unrealistic to expect them to lend a hand endlessly. Yueyao said, “It may be a small matter for the cousin-in-law, but for me, it is a big deal. I’m truly grateful for this matter.”
Ruo Lan shook her head with a smile, “The residence in Zhaohua Temple is rarely used by the people from the Duke Mansion, even when my grandmother goes to Zhaohua Temple to offer incense, she doesn’t stay there. Yueyao, that residence is quite simple; you must prepare yourself for some hardship if you’re going there.” When the Duchess went to Zhaohua Temple to offer incense, she naturally stayed in the high-standard wing rooms specially prepared for noble ladies; the rented small yard outside was for show and left vacant. For the people from the Duke Mansion, accustomed to a life of luxury, staying in the mountains was like suffering; no one would bother going there without reason. Those buildings were occupied only when the Duke Mansion had funeral rites to perform.
Yueyao took out the gifts she had prepared and said, “Cousin-in-law, I know you are pregnant and there’s not much I can offer, but here are a few clothes I made. My skills aren’t great, so I hope cousin-in-law won’t mind.” The clothes Yueyao made were all for children. They weren’t brightly colored, but they were made of soft satin, which was best for a child’s delicate skin.
With a smile, Ruo Lan had them set aside for herself, observing the pieces with even and bright needlework, clear thread paths, and most importantly, all the needle ends faced outward to prevent chafing against a child’s skin.
With a smile, Ruo Lan said, “Yueyao, I really like them, and I believe the baby will too.”
Yueyao responded with a shy smile.
Ruo Lan said with a smile, “You can embroider so well at just nine years old, in a few more years even the best embroideress couldn’t compare with you.” This was Ruo Lan’s honest feeling; in another three to five years, Yueyao’s embroidery was destined to be top-notch, provided she practiced daily.
The Maid brought tea over, serving Yueyao some top-grade Da Hong Pao. Yueyao looked into the cup. The tea was a bright orange-yellow. She picked it up and gave it a sniff, a faint aroma filling her nostrils. After taking a few sips, the taste was dry and smooth. After tasting for a bit, Yueyao put down the cup and said with a smile, “Thank you for the splurge, cousin-in-law.” This was some high-quality Da Hong Pao, invaluable.
Though Yueyao did not overtly praise the Da Hong Pao, her expression revealed her sentiment. Ruo Lan’s favorite tea was Da Hong Pao, and the precious amount she had was given by her grandmother–only a little over three ounces. Now, being pregnant, she could not drink tea, and said, “If sister likes it, take two ounces home.” She was pleased to meet a fellow enthusiast.
Yueyao shook her head, “A gentleman does not take what others cherish, besides, I don’t usually drink tea, so I would rather not waste such a fine thing.”
Ruo Lan smiled. This child really had a delicate heart; she hadn’t mentioned her fondness for Da Hong Pao, yet Yueyao had noticed it from her expression alone. Ruo Lan asked, “Then what do you usually drink?”
Yueyao answered, “Plain boiled water.”
Cai Yun and Cai Yi exchanged glances. Really? How could someone who drinks plain boiled water every day know how to appreciate tea? Both maids had acquired some insights by being around Ruo Lan. Yueyao’s entire tea-tasting ritual was undeniably that of an expert.
As the maids had guessed, Yueyao was not only a first-rate tea taster but her tea-brewing skills were also exceptional. However, that all belonged to her previous life. In this life, she hadn’t done such a thing yet. While she could still appreciate tea, brewing it was no longer her strength.
Upon noticing, Ruo Lan naturally began talking with Yueyao about the Tea Classics. Tea ceremony was Ruo Lan’s greatest hobby, and after conversing with Yueyao for a bit, she found Yueyao to be very knowledgeable about tea, not at all inferior to her.
Yueyao explained with a smile to Ruo Lan’s inquiry, “Back in Jiangnan, I often listened to my father and his friends discuss and taste tea, and Teacher Wen is also a tea ceremony expert. By being around them, I too gradually came to understand a thing or two.”
Ruo Lan said with a laugh, “Little sister, your words make me feel ashamed!” Such aptitude was simply heaven-defying; whatever she learned, she picked up quickly, whatever she studied, she excelled at. Ruo Lan touched her belly, wishing that her child would be as bright and quick-witted as Yueyao.
