Chapter 29: Chapter 28 Escape

Hundreds of miles away from Alexander’s location, deep within a mountainous forest, numerous figures could be seen running swiftly through the dense terrain.

At first glance, they appeared human, but their distinct features set them apart. Their bodies were covered in fur of various shades, grayish ash, brown, and black.

There were many of them, around 50 to 60 in total and they were all moving with incredible speed and coordination.

At the front of the group, a figure with black fur led the way, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings with caution. Unlike the others, his appearance stood out.

He had gray hair, piercing orange eyes, wolf-like ears, and a matching gray wolf tail. A blue tattoo ran along the right side of his face, and his muscular physique radiated strength and authority.

His features were striking with a blend of handsomeness and cool charisma. Just from their appearance alone, it was easy to tell that they belonged to a unique race, the Beastman.

"Are you sure this is the way?" the leading Beastman asked, his head tilting slightly back while maintaining his steady pace.

Despite the conversation, none of them slowed down. "Yes, young chief Thorne. Based on our estimations, the closest kingdom is in this direction, its about 70-100 miles away."

A Beastman from behind answered confidently. The leader who’s name was Thorne, gave a small nod.

Behind him, another Beastman carried an unconscious adult on his back. For the record, at least two Beastmen were unconscious and being carried.

It was injured and unconscious from battle, since it was evident just from the wounds covering its body.

"Young Chief Thorne, there are enemies ahead; there are at least three of them," reported by a Beastman who was perched atop the trees, dressed in black clothes.

Upon hearing this, Thorne narrowed his eyes, his pupils gleaming with ferocity. The Beastmen behind him hesitated, caught in a dilemma, as the enemy was directly in front of them.

"Remain up there and observe the surroundings. If more of them appear, report to me immediately," Thorne commanded.

"Understood, Young Chief," the Beastman responded, maintaining his position while surveying the area.

When Thorne arrived at a spacious clearing devoid of trees, he spotted three towering monsters standing before him.

They were hulking brutes with massive limbs and thick, stone-like skin that looked like armor. They were over 10 feet tall and weighed about 800 pounds or more, and each one of them carried a thick wooden club that was about 15 inches wide and 1 meter in length.

"Food," one of the monsters said in a deep voice as it pointed the tip of its club toward Thorne.

The rest of the beastmen did not go out since Thorne had instructed them to hide. Hearing the call, the other two towering monsters looked at him.

"Another beastman, another meal," another one grumbled.

Hearing what they said, Thorne’s eyes were filled with fury and bloodlust just by looking at them. If eyes could kill, the monster in front of him would have died so many times.

"You’ll pay for what you have done, you trolls!" he bellowed loudly.

The air around Thorne cracked as a massive spectral wolf appeared, its fur shimmering with frost and its eyes glowing like the cold moon. The totem howled and began to dissolve into cold light.

Thorne’s muscles swelled with power, and a strong energy flickered around his shoulder as a tattoo of a black-furred wolf formed.

His eyes burned with intensity, and the ground beneath him cracked as he stepped forward with overwhelming power.

"I only have limited time," Thorne groaned, feeling the enhancement in physical traits like speed, strength, and durability.

His vision also increased threefold, so even at night, it was just like daytime to him. His sense of smell and hearing were also magnified.

The troll walked step by step, the massive club resting on his shoulders. Thorne did not back down as he rushed toward the trolls.

As he charged forward with incredible speed, his claws were as sharp as blades as he arrived close to the trolls.

Leaping up slightly, Thorne closed in on the Troll’s torso, his sharp claws gleaming maliciously under the moonlight.

With a burst of speed, he delivered a flurry of rapid slashes. The power behind his claw strikes was no joke.

Even with the Troll’s stone-hard skin, his attacks ripped through its flesh, exposing raw muscle beneath. Blood splattered across the ground. Yet, despite the gruesome wounds, the Troll didn’t even groan in pain.

Instead, it looked down at the Beastman clawing at its stomach and let out a low chuckle.

"That tickles," the Troll rumbled, its massive hand tightening around the handle of its giant club.

Without hesitation, it swung the weapon downward, aiming to crush Thorne on the spot. Seeing the massive club descending at an alarming speed, Thorne gritted his teeth.

At the last moment, he raised his legs and kicked off the Troll’s stomach, propelling himself backward just in time.

Boom!

The giant club crashed into the spot where he had just been, shaking the earth beneath it. A cloud of dust and debris exploded into the air, filling the battlefield.

A small crater had formed where the massive club had struck, embedding itself deep into the ground like a giant nail.

As the Troll yanked it free, the earth trembled, cracks forming along the impact zone.

With the weapon now firmly in hand, the Troll’s gaze wandered across the place, only to see that its prey had already distanced itself.

Thorne, breathing heavily, gritted his teeth, "Their strength is really no joke... If only I weren’t exhausted," he muttered under his breath.

But what annoyed him even more was the sight of the wounds on the Troll’s stomach slowly closing.

The torn flesh was regenerating, recovering bit by bit. A deep scowl formed on Thorne’s face.

"All of you are really annoying!" he growled before pouncing forward, with a roar, he activated his skill.

Fangrave!

A burst of energy exploded from his body, and his speed accelerated dramatically. His fists radiated with raw power, glowing faintly as he closed the distance in an instant.

But the Troll was ready the massive club swung downward again, aiming to crush him the moment he got close.

"Dogs must die!" the troll growled in a deep, menacing voice.

Thorne clenched his teeth, his resolve unwavering. He was already committed to this moment, and he refused to back down. Standing his ground, he raised one hand, palm open, ready to catch the incoming blow.

Whistle.

A sharp, piercing sound cut through the air as an arrow streaked past. It moved with incredible speed, glowing faintly as if infused with mana.

The arrow struck the troll squarely in the shoulder, the same shoulder that held its massive club.

The force of the impact drove the arrow four inches deep, causing the troll to stagger backward. Its powerful strike faltered, and the momentum was lost as the creature roared in pain.

Thorne smiled as he caught the club, gripping the hardwood tightly in his hand, causing it to crack under his immense strength.

The Troll, having just regained its balance, was too late to react. With overwhelming power, Thorne yanked the weapon from the creature’s iron-like grip.

Seeing what the beastman was about to do, the Troll immediately threw a punch with its other hand.

Suddenly, another whistling sound echoed through the air. An arrow shot forward, aimed directly at the Troll’s head.

Blinded by rage, the creature failed to defend itself. The arrow struck its stone-like forehead with a clean hit. Though the arrow was made of wood with a sharpened rock tip, the sheer power behind the shot pierced its thick skin. However, it did not penetrate deeply.

The impact jolted the Troll, forcing it to lean back as its massive fist slammed into the ground instead of its intended target.

As Thorne finally tore the weapon from the Troll’s grip, he threw it high into the air before squatting down, preparing to leap.

Whoosh!

With an explosive burst of power, he launched himself upward, his iron-like fist slamming directly into the Troll’s face, just right where the arrow had struck.

The sheer force of his punch drove the arrow deeper, piercing further into the creature’s thick skull.

The Troll let out a final, agonized groan as its massive body arched backward before crashing lifelessly to the ground.

Thorne gazed at the fallen beast, a satisfied smile forming on his lips. But before he could even relish his victory, two deep growls rumbled through the air.

His smile vanished, replaced by a look of seriousness. Seeing that two more Trolls were rushing toward him.

Feeling the strain on his body, Thorne quickly tried to gather more mana to replenish his depleted core, readying himself for the next battle.

"Buy me time!" Thorne shouted at the top of his lungs as he squatted down, both arms positioned at his waist.

"You don’t need to shout!" a female voice responded sharply.

Atop a tree, besides the ninja-like beastman, another figure stood a beastwoman, since her uniform could barely conceal her impressive curves.

Her face was covered, her stance was firm as she stood on a branch. With smooth precision, she had already nocked an arrow, adjusting her aim with that she let go.
