Chapter 237: I Don’t Have Time For This Bullshit! (4)
Luis’ orders were naturally met with disagreements. The most vocal of these were the first patriarchs who had been with him for the longest time.
"But, My Lord. Sending them directly to you means that your safety will be compromised," Hylolas’ face was full of concern. "You’re bearing a child we could never afford you to send in harm’s way."
Several patriarchs expressed their agreement with Hylolas’ sentiments.
However, there were others who looked complicated. They exchanged looks with Ali of the Isan Clan, but the latter only pursed his lips and turned his head back to the Moon Elf Lord.
Luis shook his head, "No, trying to shake off their traces is useless at this point. They should have the general direction where they should go, considering that they already placed their first tracker on one of our people."
Everyone understood what their lord meant by this. The patient that came from the wilderness is their enemy’s first tracker.
Nihil’s arm shot high up in the air, "My Lord, I always knew that these rootless moon elves are bad omen! Why don’t we send them far from the Amber Forest? Our Woodrill City is still in the process of building from the ground up. We couldn’t afford to have it razed on the ground due to another battle— or worse, war!"
Nicol’s serious face turned into a dark frown. He’s stopping himself from saying anything wrong to his estranged father, but he really couldn’t help but think that he’s gone senile.
The thirst for power and ambition morphed him into a disagreeable elder. With these words he spoke, it would be understandable that their Moon Elf Lord would be dissatisfied— or worse, angry— with his behavior.
The head priest was not that far from the truth. Xagrien noticed the faint changes in his mate’s dark green eyes. It lost a spark that was present earlier.
Luis’ good mood suddenly flipped to a complete 180. However, he maintained the same smile on his face. "Oh, an interesting opinion we have there. Are other patriarchs who share the same idea with Patriarch Nihil from Ris Clan?"
To his surprise, most of the present patriarchs raised their hands, but most were patriarchs from far lands. Only two patriarchs from Woodril City (except the Ris Clan, which Nihil already represents) joined.
It was the Soriya Clan and Isan Clan.
They are the clans who are stuck with their traditional elitist mindset. Luis couldn’t say that he was surprised seeing them standing on the other side of the shore.
"That’s quite a number," Luis uttered in his lightest tone. "Can I listen to some of your thoughts? I want it to be your rawest opinion. No holding back."
For starters, he pointed at the new patriarch sitting beside Ali. More than the familiar folks from Isan, Soriya, and Ris Clans, he’s more interested in learning the perspective of the fresh faces from the far territory.
"May I know your name?"
"Huh?" the male moon elf who looks like he’s in his early fifties was dumbfounded at first when the Moon Elf Lord pointed at him. He just looked at Luis, blinking his eyes as if he were trying to wake himself up from a dream.
"Your name?" Luis asked again. His sour mood slightly eased because he found the elder’s expression a little cute for his age.
"My Lord! My name is Woo from the Ujin Clan of Portgrass Plains."
Luis resumed in his light and friendly tone, "I saw that you also agreed to send an injured young moon elf away from the Amber Forest for my safety?"
Patriarch Woo was visibly shaken now that the Moon Elf Lord had spoken to him. This is the opportunity that he’s been looking forward to, but now, his mind just blacked out!
"Well- uh, my lord..." He trailed off. His eyes wandered on anything around him, trying to think of an impactful answer to the Moon Elf Lord’s question.
Patriarch Woo then remembered his experiences with the rogues, "Uh- In my opinion, it’s not worth compromising your safety just for the sake of those rogues, My Lord. I know you’re already set to save everyone who swore to be your subordinate, but I think those rogues are not exactly the kind of moon elves that will be devoted to you. They are a vicious group that doesn’t conform to any rules, and they are as bloodthirsty as those outsiders. They are a treacherous lot who wouldn’t think twice about abducting bearers for their personal interest!"
Luis leaned back from his seat, "Is this the truth? You mean the majority of the rogues out there are this violent?"
Xagrien nodded, "Yes, as much as it pains me, I have to admit that most of the rogues wandering in the lands outside are like what Patriarch Woo described."
Ali, who’s sitting on the side, smirked, "Spoken it so naturally as if he has done it himself, huh?"
Patriarch Woo heard of this and was instantly reminded of what they had heard about their Lord faking his pregnancy.
He turned to the tall, tan-skinned moon elf sitting beside the moon elf lord, his eyes lacking any trace of kindness. If he successfully unmasked this rogue man’s true face, wouldn’t that mean the Moon Elf Lord would owe him? He heard about the good stuff their ruler had given to the first moon elves, who swore their allegiance and gave him excellent service.
It would be ideal for him if he scored earlier than the other clans from Portgrass Plains and Cape of Wonder.
Patriarch Woo saw nothing but the benefits he would get from his calculation. He hadn’t thought of the implications of his words nor the validity of the news that he got.
The patriarch stood up from his seat and immediately dropped to his knees to the ground. Everyone gasped as they saw someone prostrating to the Moon Elf Lord after a very long while.
Luis was filled with question marks in his head, "What the hell is going on?"
"My Lord, we, your most loyal subjects, know how great your benevolence for us. Your heart was so big that you accepted all kinds of moon elves and other races. However, please know that some of them are crawling to be on your side with deceit as their main intention!"
"Huh?!" The Moon Elf Lord was flummoxed at the words he just heard. The language is familiar, and the sentence is pretty simple, but why can’t he understand a shit?
"Patriarch Woo, I feel like you’re about to report something. Would you mind being more straightforward?"
"My Lord, this subordinate could understand the feeling of passion that you’re experiencing right now, and sometimes, our mates tend to demand something from us just to keep the relationship stable. I could relate to that because I have my mate, too. However," Patriarch Woo gulped a mouthful of saliva, his chest booming against his chest, and a tiny voice in his head says that he should stop now.
But he knew he was too deep in the situation to back out.
Patriarch Woo bit the side of his cheek and said, "My Lord, please. You don’t need to pretend for the sake of your subordinates’ and mates’ happiness that you’re pregnant. Some of us know the truth, and it’s painful for us to know that you’re pressured to give birth to your offspring. You don’t need to fake your pregnancy any longer, My Lord. We are willing to support you even if you’re not!"
He continued his piece without raising his head, but his voice was distinctly stable and firm this time like he had finally shed off his nervousness.
"Pardon my impertinence, my lord, but in my opinion, you are too young and too kind to realize that some people around you are trying to control you using the trust you have given them. I think your mate is taking advantage of your vulnerability to control you, my Lord. That way, he could raise the status of his fellow rogues!"
Patriarch Woo wasn’t aware that the atmosphere around him had significantly changed.
He was tremblingly waiting for the response of the Moon Elf Lord. With the humility and submission he demonstrated, he was sure that he thoroughly conveyed his message, and he was assured that everyone who heard him talk would know that he was genuine.
Patriarch Woo was waiting for the kind, soothing voice of the Moon Elf Lord, but what he heard after a long moment of silence.
"Oh, my. What. The. Fuck. Did. I. Just. Heard?" Luis’ somber and apathetic voice echoed.
For the first time after the birth of their Moon Elf Lord. They faced the cold and unfeeling version of Luis.
