Chapter 234: I Don’t Have Time For This Bullshit! (1)

Sometimes, having alarmist thoughts isn’t that bad. That is what Luis learned during the apocalypse. And he must say that it saved his life lots of times. Just like they say, preparing for the worst is better when trying to save lives.

Luis almost made that his motto in life, and he must admit, he definitely took that with him in this new and magical world after his transmigration and rebirth. He didn’t forget to praise Nicol for his sharp insight, and he instructed his head priest to prepare for a more formal meeting later to brainstorm what actions they should be taking in light of this looming crisis—this time, with all the clan patriarchs present.

But before that, Luis treated the poor young moon elf first.

"The injured fellow worked really hard to stay alive."

That comment pretty much sums up the entire state of his patient. The young moon elf’s exhaustion of nature’s energy due to strenuous usage of his elemental powers and physical fatigue was at its peak, suggesting that he journeyed nonstop despite the many wounds he suffered.

Seriously, to say that it was a miracle that he was still alive wasn’t a stretch, and it was a hard and cold fact upon learning his current.

It’s in the young moon elf’s luck that he managed to reach Woodrill City and meet Olyn, who, in turn, helped without any second thoughts. In fact, if it weren’t for Luis’ favorite attendant, Rean’s passion for saving life, and Nicol’s compassionate initiative to use the rare Life-Saving Potion that contains the power of Sacred Spring and Tree of Life, this poor young man wouldn’t even get to meet the Moon Elf Lord alive.

That is how dire his situation was.

"How could a being with intelligence and conscience do something like this..." Rean couldn’t help but murmur after putting aside the small scalpel that he used to remove the dirt and the rotten flesh that stuck on the patient’s wounds.

Luis asked him to do it since the wounds were absolutely terrible, and he was afraid that even with his Healer’s Touch, he wouldn’t be able to heal them even if he tried.

"No one needs conscience if they are facing someone they see as trash or enemy," Xagrien responded. The man’s eyes were clouded. Of all people, he and his friends know what it feels like to be treated like a pest. They lived a nomadic life until they met the Moon Elf Lord.

Back then, they met a lot of moon elves (from clans and rogues alike) who chased and hunted them without any conscience.

"Violence was easier to give towards enemies, Rean. It won’t cost them anything. In the end, it’s always the survival of the fittest," Luis chimed in after retracting his powers from the injured. The patient’s complexion was noticeably better than before, and all of his superficial wounds were no longer visible to the naked eye.

However, considering the young moon elf’s depleted nature’s energy, Luis is afraid that the patient won’t be waking up for a day or two just to let the body naturally recover on its own. He just can’t overload such a growing young body with both nature’s energy and life energy at the same time. The consequences of doing that are still unknown, and he is unwilling to gamble.

Nothing beats the natural way, anyway.

But what really concerns him is the idea of the potentially bloody battle that’s quickly approaching them.

Luis’s face was covered with seriousness, and he said, "What we may be facing is a war that could potentially cost us all of our lives. We can’t afford to pull our punches when our enemies are out to kill us. We must fill our daggers with the greater killing intent to keep ourselves safe."

Hearing this, Xagrien and Rean silently clench their fists. They could feel the gravity of the situation with just those words. Especially Xagrien, who knows Luis well. His bearer isn’t someone who would talk about killing or wars.

His Luis loved peaceful days and leisurely walks.

And his bearer would always want to avoid blood and discord because of the shadows that his past life brought him. That’s why when he heard Luis say something that he absolutely hated. He knows for a fact that there is a fear silently creeping behind that light-hearted façade that he showed earlier.

"I will keep you and our babies safe," Xagrien reached out to hold his mate’s hand. It was cold.

That very fatherly statement drew a big smile on Luis’s lips.

Later that day, a rumor was swirling around Woodrill City. It started when the priests of the temple and sentinels went around to inform about the meeting with the Moon Elf Lord. They are ecstatic that their race’s sole leader is giving them a chance to meet them. But the rumor is unrelated to that. It was something else.

"Did the honorable priests tell your clan to arm everyone with weapons? Our patriarch instructed all our best warriors to be on standby," one warrior asked the other warrior from a different clan. With spears and bows in their hands, they are currently hunting for meat in the forest.

Since multiple clans are gathered in the Amber Forest, it had been a common occurrence for moon elves of varying clans to join together like this. It just sort of happened naturally now that the physical distance between them has shortened.

The warrior who was asked nodded, "Yes, and aside from that, we are instructed to monitor the fringe of the Amber Forest strictly."

Their topic is quite a sensation, so their conversation piqued other warriors with them. Some couldn’t help but join in.

"Right, your clan was temporarily staying on the edge of the western Amber Forest. But did they say anything about why you need to monitor it? Was it because of the rogues? Did the Moon Elf Lord say he doesn’t want those wanderers to approach his Woodrill City?"

"No way, silly. The Moon Elf Lord would never say that. You heard what Head Priest Nicol said about the Moon Elf Lord, right? He is a kind ruler who gives everyone a chance."

"I am just guessing, you know. Those are rogues. They are an unscrupulous band of thieves, so maybe the Moon Elf Lord heard about their deeds and didn’t want to welcome them," he says with a very displeased expression.

Don’t blame him for not being that enthusiastic about that certain group of moon elves because all the experiences that he had in dealing with them were unpleasant. He lived in the far north, on the fringe of Good Pine Plains, where the presence of the temple and sentinels is practically zero.

Therefore, they are vulnerable, leaving their security in their hands.

The atmosphere became tense and cold all of a sudden, so the acting leader of the hunting group interjected.

"Enough," The leader raised his hand. "Let’s not make things depressing, shall we? The Lord must have a good reason for extending his kindness to them. Let’s just focus on the hunt and keep in mind what we were told by the priests earlier. The Moon Elf Lord ordered that if we see any moon elves, no matter what their background and identity is, they should be kindly escorted to the Woodrill City to be our lord’s audience."

The warrior, who had a bitter face, lowered his head and nodded. "That sounds better."

"Huh? They will directly meet the Moon Elf Lord. That’s unfair. I haven’t even seen the back of the Moon Elf Lord," exclaimed the youngest of the group.

The leader sighed. And here he thought that the conversation was over.

"I think you are missing the gist. What do you think is the reason for preparing for weapons and orders for surveilling the woodland outside the Amber Forest?" he walked towards his pal and grabbed the arm. "An enemy is approaching us from the north, and the Moon Elf Lord is gathering information about them with the help of the newcomers."

"Why wait for them when we can go ahead and scout the north ourselves? That is faster than just waiting for information, don’t you think?"

Hearing this, the leader couldn’t help but ponder. "Yeah, that may be the case, but are you willing to disobey the order of the Moon Elf Lord? Don’t anger the Moon Elf Lord when he is pregnant."

All of a sudden, a nearby bush rustled, and someone emerged from it.

"Yulls! Are you here with your fellow Isan Clans warriors to hunt?" The leader instantly recognized the moon elf who appeared. They are acquainted with the Isan Clan because they frequently traded with them before the Isan migrated to live in Woodrill City. "Did your Patriarch Ali say something about the Moon Elf Lord’s plans and reason for the meeting?"

"Our Patriarch didn’t say anything yet," Yulls shook his head. His shining, smiley eyes hide malice.

"By the way, brothers. I think it is in everyone’s best interest if you don’t speak about the Moon Elf Lord’s pregnancy."

"What? Why is that?"

"Oh, haven’t you heard? Someone saw that he was secretly taking tonics that help bearers conceive."

"Wait, does that mean..."

Yulls smiled meaningfully as if saying yes to the question. "All because of his mate. Well, what else to expect from someone born as a rogue, right?"
