Chapter 196: The Brightest Flame(2)
Chapter 196: The Brightest Flame(2)
Nicol was instantly on high alert when he saw his father, whom he was estranged with, suddenly approached him. He looked directly at the crimson red eyes that were seeing right through him, and he couldn’t help but shiver, not due to rain but to the cold feeling that crept into his heart. That was the same blank eyes that looked at him without any compassion that a father should have for his son.
The eyes that looked at him like he was the weakest trash.
The look that he hated the most.
It’s been a while since he had seen that.
However, the unpleasant feeling was still the same.
While the rain was drenching him, he felt as if something inside his chest was starting to warm up. Because of it, his shivers vanished. Nicol stood up straighter; his posture was confident.
"You no longer have a say in what I do in my life," Nicol said to the advancing man, who almost mirrors his physical traits. "It’s been a while since I am out of your grasp. You can’t-"
Nicol paused on his words wide-eyed as the man walking up to him passed through his body like he was some wisp of smoke.
’What is happening?’ Nicol blurted out in his mind. Goosebumps form on his arms as he experienced such a peculiar phenomenon.
"Father! I-I’m sorry," Someone spoke in a voice that was closely identical to his, only that the speaker sounded a little immature. "I am just cooling off some of my burns, but I promise that I will resume the training once it- ahhhhh!"
Blag!
The loud thump of a blunt object hitting the flesh jolted Nicol out of his confusion. He turned around where the commotion was, and there, he saw his younger self prostrating on the ground, holding his stomach like he was holding on for his life.
"I-I am sorry, father! I-I will train now! Please..." cried the young Nicol.
In front of the suffering youth was Nihil, his father. The man stood still without caring for the hands rubbing on his feet to beg for his mercy.
Instead, he conjured his flames and threw them directly to the thin hands of his son. It instantly burned and sizzled at the same time; young Nicol in front of him cried for help and begged his father to stop.
"Stop your madness, father!" Nicol instinctively yelled and tried to push Nihil to the side. However, his efforts only proved he could not touch even a piece of Nihil’s clothing.
His hands faded when he was about to touch his father’s shoulder. But he had no choice. He must stop his father as he carried on his heartless beating his younger self.
Nicol threw himself in front of his to stop the man he had just called father and yelled in seething anger, "Patriarch Nihil! You don’t have the right to maltreat m-me..."
It was unknown to Nicol why his voice suddenly cracked in the end. The only thing that he was aware of was that something warm was trickling down his cheeks, and it was pathetically hiding in the raindrops falling on his face.
Just like earlier, his effort to put an end to his father’s cruelty was ended in vain.
"Stop, please..." Nicol has no choice but to close his eyes. At this time, his only wish was to stop time or to make him deaf so that he wouldn’t be able to hear his own cries. It is like the scars he finally healed over time were forcibly opened by a dull knife.
He felt powerless.
He felt sad.
Never did he think that he would experience the same helplessness after years of cutting his communication with his father and the Ris Clan.
Most people have the idea that he cut ties with his father because his father took in a new mate after his mother died, but in reality, the scene unfolding in front of his very eyes is the real cause of his estrangement.
Ris Clan was known for possessing the technique of cultivating Flesh-Eating Flame. Many are in awe of such an intense fire technique that they call it the ultimate flame technique in the moon elf race.
But unknown to anyone outside the Ris clan, the patriarchy that led and ruled their powerful clan for hundreds of years had a lofty goal.
And that is to recreate the Fire of Purification, that fabled white fire that was said to be capable of burning everything. The fire that Lord Flamion used during his time.
For years, the clan patriarch would choose one child among his children who had the best qualifications, and he would be subjected to dangerous training just to achieve the feat that had no certainty of success.
In the present generation, Nicol is the one chosen because of his plate being classified as Elemental King, the third most profound plate starting from the Moon Elf Lord’s.
In order to strengthen his fire, he was always tasked to stand in the rain and continuously use his fire just like this. He would experience his father’s fist and fire whenever he messed up while doing the task, branding him with the idea that his fire should be more intense than the fire that burned him.
Just like what he witnessed now, he wept, yelled, and begged to stop the tribulation that his own father had put him in.
But it was only met with apathy, and the intensity of his suffering only became greater.
Thinking of all the atrocities he had experienced before and watching them happen right now ignited his warmth into a small fire that fueled his agitation.
"Why do I have to suffer all these atrocities because of that cursed ambition!" Nicol gritted his teeth and balled his fist.
The helplessness that he felt earlier blossomed into rage. Unbeknownst to him, his core also shows more significant amounts of dotted fire. The progression of reawakening is moving forward every time his emotions are moving towards his realization of his desire.
’It’s plain stupidity just to stand around and do nothing,’ Nicol told himself as he shook off his earlier sadness.
Sorrow helps nothing in his defense.
With heavy feet, he approached Nihil once again, and this time, he conjured his orange fire.
"You made me feel pathetic many times before I stayed away from you. I wouldn’t let you have your way now that I am finally able to stand on my own two feet," Nicol said, and without hesitation, he threw the fire orbs at Nihil.
His elemental power was utilized to its full potential.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Five yellow concentrated fireballs twice the size of an adult head simultaneously bombarded Nihil. The air around him was disturbed because of the explosion.
His major attacks appeared to work as he saw the patriarch’s figure flickering.
Nicol is still a bit confused about the reason why these two people are untouchable for him. But he immediately dropped that concern as he focused on avenging all because of the terrible things that he experienced.
It stopped attacking the young Nicol and stood still.
"The only good thing that I got from your cruelty is my stamina to use my elemental powers," Nicol said as he looked energized after releasing an uncontrolled fire.
The heat that he had in his chest felt even more alive now. If it was a person, it must be dancing in glee, as if saying that giving his all in his attacks is good.
Nicol maintained his level-headedness and opted not to wreak havoc.
With steady steps, he made his way to his lying younger self to help him.
"So you’re finally willing to train, huh?" Said Nihil from behind him.
Nicol halted because he somehow felt that that statement was addressed towards him.
The head priest turned to face his father and saw that Nihil was holding a dire wolf pup. Its white fur was drenched in the rain, just like him, making it look pitiful.
Alarm bells are clamoring in his mind upon seeing this.
The Flesh-Eating Fire that was the envy of the other fire moon elves is not perfected by just imagination. It was naturally practiced on things that have flesh. He loathed that to the core, and seeing that his father was doing that now made his rationality fly out of the window.
This cruelty is the reason why he opted to become the head priest. Nicol awaited when he could influence the Ris Clan and purge them of their heartless ways.
Nicol halted as he remembered something, "Right, I promised the Moon Elf Lord that I would fix the wrong methods of the temple. We are slowly getting there. And now, I think it should be alright to use my influence as the trusted subordinate of the Moon Elf Lord to get rid of rotten parts of the Ris Clan."
The head priest, who has found a new goal, clenched his fist, feeling the motivation rushing towards him.
"I want to be the brightest flame that could purify their morbid thoughts and correct their wrong ways of living!"
Nicol swears that he will achieve that in his lifetime!
Crackle! Crackle!
The head priest, under the illusion cast by Xagrien, was oblivious that because of his realization, his reawakening had finally concluded.
The raining sky suddenly vanished, and it was replaced by a dark, starry night with a small crescent moon overhead. Away from everyone’s watch, a small yellow dot of a star appeared on the side of the crescent moon.
"I hate you so much, Patriarch Nihil!" Blinded by raw emotion, Nicol roared.
The faint popping sound that Nicol missed has finally shown its true form.
