There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord!
Chapter 191: Soul-Element Resonance (1)

Chapter 191: Soul-Element Resonance (1)

"Nicol, since when do you think that the symptoms appeared?" Luis’ somber voice sounded inside the infirmary room. The surroundings turned silent the instant the Moon Elf Lord said that.

’This is what a serious matter,’ is what they thought upon seeing the serious look of the Moon Elf Lord.

"Or anything you felt out of the ordinary," Luis followed up. He asked this in order to know more if the anomaly he had seen in Nicol’s core had something to do with his illness now.

Dark green eyes landed on Xagrien, who was silently looking at him. Luis knew the man was watching his reaction closely and gave him a stare that said, "I guess you are right." Xagrien has become more perceptive and vocal after returning from the Inner Circle. Luis is more than encouraging to such a change.

Luis’ eyes blinked and turned back to Nicol, who was currently immersed in his own thoughts.

’Out of ordinary?’ Nicol paused for a moment, retracing back what happened the past days. He’s been feeling out of the weather these past few days, and most of the time, his focus is on work, so it is a bit hard for him to know what part pinpoint when his sickness started.

’Is there something notable that happened?’ Nicol asked himself. ’There is!’ His eyes widened slightly when he realized something and answered their Lord.

"I think it was during the night of the brawl, My Lord."

Gasps break out from the others who are silently looking at them.

"You were injured back then? Why are you not saying anything?!" Legland’s heavy hand landed on his friend’s arm. It is evident in his crimson-red eyes that he is worried, but it doesn’t show in his high-pitched words that sound like an accusation.

Rean angrily swatted away his mate’s hand, "You’re hurting a patient! You musclehead!"

The gentle-looking bearer turned to the head priest and pinched the long-pointy ears, "If you were feeling anything weird, you should have told it ahead of time! Goodness! You have a healer for a friend, but you are not using that connection very well!"

’Didn’t you just say not to hurt a patient?’ the audience of the trio’s friendship all thought in their heads.

"Yes, teach him a lesson, Rean," the Moon Elf Lord encouraged while silently trying to process what he had seen and based on the response provided by Nicol.

’Did that happen because Nicol overused his ability?’ he immediately turned that idea down as it is not uncommon for moon elves to overuse their abilities, and not a single one of them experienced the same thing as their head priest.

Only now.

While Luis is deep in his thoughts, Xerxes takes in this scenario and can’t help but wonder how the Moon Elf Lord’s subordinates could goof around even though their lord is present. Plus, it is unthinkable that the Moon Elf Lord looks okay with it.

Their bond is different from any other Lord-subordinate relationships he has seen so far.

’What a weird and harmonious energy,’ the Blizzard Dragon uttered in his mind. However, right after the word "energy" registered in his head, he felt a familiar feeling coming from the patient. ’No way!’

Oblivious to what other people’s thoughts are, Nicol swiftly got out of Rean’s crab-like pinch and said to the bearer, "I am not injured or anything during that time. It’s just that my chest started heating up during the battle. That’s all. I didn’t mind it initially since maybe it’s because of excitement and other things. But thinking of it now, I became ill after feeling that."

He said truthfully. The heat, which started from his chest, slowly spread throughout Nicol’s body on some occasions until he just collapsed three days ago.

Bingo. Luis clenched his fist as he heard those words of confirmation.

"It started in your chest because your core, which was located in that part, has striking changes," Luis solemnly said after collecting his thoughts. "I saw orange and yellow spots around the core. Actually, it doesn’t look like a simple blob of colors. Instead, they looked like tiny embers dotting your core."

The moon elves who heard it looked at Luis with a dumbfounded look.

"My Lord, that is... unheard of!" Olyn blurted out in shock. However, the bearer blinked twice, holding his mouth after realizing his presumptuous reaction, "I-I apologize for raising my voice, but that is not..." Olyn trailed off.

Luis knew what he meant, so he nodded, "I know, and I found it peculiar, too. That is why I bid my time to process what I’ve seen. I even scanned Nicol’s body twice just to make sure, but I am not mistaken."

The Moon Elf Lord’s profound explanation struck the minds of his followers. They, too, just like the Moon Elf Lord, silently digested these findings that came from Luis.

The moon elves’ core has 5 distinct colors, which correspond to the levels of the moon elves, starting from one-star to five-star. Black, black-red, red, red-white, and lastly white. The core’s colors never deviated from these hues, and this is what they constitute as normal.

But now, something unprecedented happened, and it happened first to their head priest, who is currently a four-star master. One of the strongest among typical moon elves.

"Is this a kind of illness, My Lord?" Nicol asked. His voice showed no signs of trembling, but Luis could see the lurking fear behind his head priest’s brave, fiery red eyes. No one in the moon elves’ history had ever had something in their core. It will be a lie if he says that he is not panicking at the thought that his elemental powers will be implicated because of this.

A stabbing pain in his chest made itself known to him. Luis bit his lips, and he felt the warm hands of his man caressing his waist. It isn’t a sensual touch but a reassuring one.

’Right, I shouldn’t be shaken in this situation.’ Luis said to himself. He is the leader, so he better collect his composure.

’Besides, if my guess was right, this is related to that thing. I could ask for guidance from the system administrator or force her to help me,’ The Moon Elf Lord decided to focus on the brighter side.

The Moon Elf Lord’s initial reaction was normal as Legland and Olyn quickly said their piece. Just like Luis, both of them couldn’t control their worries from not showing.

"What are you talking about?" Legland was quick to shut down his friend’s worries. "Don’t be such an alarmist. Our Lord must have an idea what it was, or what to handle it, right?"

"True, Head Priest Nicol, let’s not think of the worst when nothing is confirmed."

Olyn looked at Luis, asking for their lord’s help. Of course, Luis is ready to soothe the uncomfortable atmosphere. And he indeed has an idea what caused Nicol’s fever.

In fact, it is something that Luis has expected, and he warned about this beforehand.

But before he can utter a word, Xerxes raises his hand and says something that sounds like a death sentence. "Moon Elf Lord, I know it’s presumptuous for me to say anything. But I am having this weird feeling coming out from your head priest. As perchance, is he practicing something that impacts his soul? I think he should think twice before proceeding any further as it may cause his soul to suffer damages just like mine did."

Xerxes is someone who had dabbled in dark magic arts and messed with his own soul. This is the reason why he is susceptible to things related to spirituality. On top of this, his current condition as a bound soul aligns him with the classification of the little tree spirit, who is currently out mingling with the inhabitants of the Amber Forest.

Spiritual beings have sharp senses regarding the souls of living things. This is their edge compared to the hybrid moon elves.

If there was anyone in the Woodrill Plains who could point out that the soul was the problem, then it was that newcomer duo. The Winged Serpent and Xerxes.

These are the realizations that came rushing at Luis when he heard the Blizzard Dragon’s intelligent guess.

Truth be told, they both came up with the same thing. Luis’ advantage is that he knows something that Xerxes is not aware of yet.

"I could feel this strong heat emanating from the insides of this moon elf, and it is harming his soul." You could say that his soul is on the verge of being burned, and that will happen if he continues that harmful practice."

These words alarmed the others, and they warily looked at the Moon Elf Lord. Their eyes ask for answers, and their questions are answered briefly as Luis quickly expresses his thoughts.

Luis is calm and collected despite the warnings sprouting from Xerxes’ lips. All of them are valid and based. He could give the dragon that.

But for the first time since his reincarnation, he is confident he will place his complete trust in the system.

"All of Xerxes’ words are reasonable, and the threat is indeed that great. If I am not mistaken, this is an effect of practicing Moonlight Circulation Training," Luis’ eyes were clear and unwavering, and it made his subordinates calm down, too. "Did you remember that unknown factor I emphasized before I gave you the manual? I think this is the cause of the Soul-Element Resonance."
