There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord!
Chapter 166: Cross Roads (2)

Chapter 166: Cross Roads (2)

For spiritual beings, death is nothing but a concept that is out of their head. It was unrelated to them as they are beings who came into existence through various complex energies in nature. And by luck and the so-called fate, they manage to manifest consciousness and in turn form their distinct personality.

That is the case for the spirit of Heart of the Forest. For centuries and thousands of years even, he lived monotonously in his designated spot while doing the job as the manager of the entire Amber Forest.

It was a smooth and uneventful life but for someone who hasn’t seen much about everything in this world, that is sufficient to him... or so he thought.

Fate played jokes on an innocent tree spirit like him and just found himself losing lots of things all because of the Moon Elf Lord’s actions. But that experience is also something that he greatly appreciated as this brought him to meet a "friend" that woke him up from his loneliness.

Xerxes made him realize that his life was full and too confined in a small space.

For once, he truly felt what it was to be happy through Xerxes’ stories. That is why when he was told that his friend will vanish any day, he felt for the first time the desperation that he never thought he would feel.

The spirit of the Heart of the Forest knows now that death is not just a vague concept. It was a reality that would come when they least expected it.

’Promise, Great Moon Elf Lord. If you manage to save my friend, Xerxes, you can take anything in this desolate place. I will not complain or say anything bad.’ that was the thought that he had when he was feeling the fluctuation of his friend’s mana and until the moment it suddenly stopped and disappeared.

The sun is about to set. It would be a lie if he says that he isn’t worried.

The transportation circle near the Heart of the Forest started glowing bright blue light. With great anticipation, the tree spirit who’s been antsy since the Moon Elf Lord followed the two men started shaking its tail.

Not even a short moment did he pull his eyes away from the light.

Nervousness and excitement deny him from doing that.

’Did the Moon Elf Lord succeed?’ he asked himself as he was waiting for the light to subside.

His unspoken question was answered once he saw the three conspicuous figures emerging from the transportation circle.

"Great Moon Elf Lord!! You did it!" cried the little python who was dangling from the branch of the skinny tree.

Happiness is evident in his voice as he skillfully slithered his way down with his green translucent body.

"Yeah, I worked hard," Luis replied in a monotone. Traces of hardships were seen in the Moon Elf Lord’s pale face and the reddened tips of his nose. "Oh, what are you waiting for? Go on and kiss your friend."

The Moon Elf Lord revealed a twisted smirk on his lips as he said that.

Xagrien, whose arm has been possessively wrapped around Luis’ waist, pulled his bearer to his side to make way for Xerxes.

The tree spirit who is in the form of a python looked directly at the fine gentleman approaching towards him.

"Do you still feel weak?" He asked his friend Xerxes.

"Still far from my prime but now I can no longer feel that my mana is dissipating." Xerxes smiled and answered just like usual. There are no hints that he had just dodged a lethal bullet on his way.

"You will not disappear anymore?" The green translucent python asked in a very low voice that almost came out as a whisper.

"Well, I am not... for now," Xerxes answered as he lowered himself and dotingly touched the snake head of the spirit.

They could touch since their bodies are made up of energy.

On the other hand, Luis was watching on the sidelines with great relish. ’Is this some kind of reunion of star-crossed lovers?’

In his point of view, these two "friends" are surrounded by blooming flowers.

With a teasing smirk on his lips, he added something to clarify Xerxes’ current situation.

"Pardon my interruption but just to clarify; The threat of him disappearing is still around. What I only did was to delay the worst scenario for as long as this thing is functional," Luis waved the metal flask that contained Xerxes’ corpse.

"This item freezes the time of the stuff stored inside it hence, the magic circle of the dark magic art that is carved in your body will remain intact. However, the moment your body leaves this storage device, the natural process of your body dissipating will kick in once again and you know what will happen. Total soul annihilation."

This is currently the best solution he has. Besides, this much is already considered a big cheat that they should be thankful for.

"Great Moon Elf Lord... Thank you, you are the kindest Moon Elf Lord that I ever met," the tree spirit uttered, his tone dripping with gratitude.

Luis blushed at this sudden touching expression, and with a slight sweat accumulating on his forehead, he waved his hand.

"You don’t have to thank me, I didn’t do it out of the goodness of my heart. I am here for the benefits," he answered, averting his eyes.

Xagrien watched this reaction of his bearer with a smile on his face. ’So adorable.’

Luis crossed his arms over his chest and then spoke firmly to Xerxes, "Anyway, the mana will also be stored in Quantum Storage Flask so I wonder if it will hinder you from using magic."

"It will not, Moon Elf Lord. The mana circles that are surrounding the magic user’s heart are actually anchored in the soul so it doesn’t matter if my body is in isolated space." Xerxes promptly responded.

The change in his tone was evident. Respect and some tinge of carefulness are present in the way he speaks to Luis.

"That is great then." Luis breathed a sigh of relief. Everything fell to their rightful place. "Seems like there are no other dangers now. We can go back to the Woodrill Plains and finish the construction."

"Actually..." the Blizzard Dragon trailed off. "There is something that you need to know. Since my mana has been leaking for days, I am afraid that the ones who are hunting me have caught a whiff of it so I strongly advise you to be on high alert and watch out for intruders."

Xerxes guiltily lowered his head. He didn’t tell them about this matter since firstly, he doesn’t care if the moon elves will wage a war against the dragons who would come for him after his death. Secondly, he wanted the dragons to suffer the retaliation of the moon elves if what he was hoping for would happen. Lastly, he has a plan to send Xagrien to the central part of the continent using the transportation circle

It was that big magic circle where his body was lying on so he could take Xagrien by surprise and transport him to safety whether he likes it or not.

That was the calculation that he initially formulated and at that time, he thought that it was the best course of action.

However, who would have thought that the Moon Elf Lord would pull off something that’s supposedly impossible?

Definitely not him.

"What do you mean by that?" The Moon Elf Lord asked with his forehead crumpled.

Xagrien swooped in and whispered the few important key points of what Xerxes told him.

As Luis listened and caught the gist of the situation, his patience was slowly getting consumed like termites are gnawing on it.

’Should I turn into my spiritual body and smack the head of this proud dragon?’ Luis thought, outwardly expressing his displeasure using an askew pout.

However, before he could choose violence, he breathed a deep sigh, attempting to gain control over his emotion.

"Then that makes sense. Now I know why the punishment for failing the quest was like that," Luis murmured.

Xagrien knowingly looked at Luis and whispered, "Don’t worry, we are not weak. I don’t mind slaying them all for you."

Luis was touched hearing the first sentence of his lover and mate. It made his heart skip a beat, he must admit.

However, he isn’t sure what to feel with the second and last sentence. It’s low-key giving a red-flag vibe.

"Xagrien..." Luis speechlessly looked at the handsome man beside him and in just one fleeting glance, he decided to just shake the weird feeling off.

Such a gorgeous red flag fucked him well and was nice. Of course, he would let such brutality pass!

"But there is a possibility that they failed to know my exact location," Xerxes guiltily added.

"Don’t worry that I don’t mind," Luis replied. Since the punishment was waived by the system, then that means the possibility of going to an all-out war with the dragon race was eliminated.

But for the sake of being prepared...

"We will prepare with the worst scenario in mind," Luis confidently said. "Because that is the best way to bolster our defense."

Everything that they needed to acquire is now complete. All they needed to do now was the collective efforts of everyone to finish all of their ongoing projects.

It’s time for them to go back.
