477: Killer cat.

477: Killer cat.

“It’s poison,”  Inside of the captain’s office in the hidden city, an update on the results of Lai Yanfang’s autopsy was being given by Su Nuwa, the head of the researchers in the city.

The autopsy had been carried out by a top medical examiner and some doctors that worked in the hidden city.

Su Nuwa’s declaration of poison as Lai Yanfang’s cause of death had the captain worried.

This could very well be the first murder in the city and the moment news like this got out, there would be panic.

Which system host would feel safe in the city if anybody could stroll in and kill them at any time?

“Are you sure?” he asked.

Even though he was asking again, he knew very well that Nuwa’s answer would not change.

She had an chemical analysis system that could break down the components of almost anything in the world as long as it was related to a chemical.

“I will try not to be offended by your doubt captain.” Su Nuwa answered flatly.

“It’s poison, the same kind which is used by Caramel of the Everyone assasin group.

Even though we have the antidote which you got from Li…Tai Alix, it was too late to save her.

This poison was injected straight into Lai Yanfang’s heart and then her oxygen mask was pulled off.”  The captain’s face fell and he slammed a fist on his table.

The titanium table quivered and it’s legs bent.

A fist like shape was formed on its surface.

He looked at the man standing next to Su Nuwa.

The tall man was smiling even though the situation did not call for a smile.

He was a police detective but specifically for the hidden city and he was the third in charge of the intelligence department of the bureau in the country.

He was mixed blood, which explained his bright honey brown eyes and foreign looking features.

His face was youthful and his smile friendly but those honey brown eyes of his portrayed danger.

In the hidden city all the residents knew that Abby Chung’s smile was more dangerous than his frown.

The people that had seen him in action on hunting missions told stories of him sicing necks and smiling with a blood soaked face.

“Thank you Nuwa, you can leave.” The captain dismissed the scientist.

As soon as she left, he turned to the detective.

“What have you found detective Abby?

I want the name of the person responsible for daring to commit murder in my city.

I am going to declare an all out hunt for Caramel today.”  “She is right, it’s not Caramel.

While i agree that we all want Caramel six feet underground, she is not to blame for this particular incident even though the poison used was hers.” Abby said.

The captain sat down and sighed.

“Then who is it?” “Tai Alix.” Detective Abby answered, still smiling.

The captain was stunned and he stood up, then sat down again.

He didn’t understand how a poison uniquely used by an assasin, the only one in the world with access to it was also used by Alix.

Did it mean Alix was a member of Everyone?

“Tai Alix is not a member of Everyone.” Detective Abby responded like he could read the captain’s mind.

“Don’t read my mind.” The captain warned.

Detective Abby shrugged and laughed.

“It’s a force of habit and a part of my job.” He had a mind reading system which he had used to catapult himself to the the top ranks as one of the best detectives in Shenzhen.

His record was too good to be true and that’s how the bureau found him.

“Do not bother looking for her in the city or accusing her because she didn’t personally step foot inside the city.

Her cat however somehow made it in and out without being caught on any camera or setting off any of the security systems.

The only reason why we even know it’s her is because the cat posed in front the camera at the new entrance to the city behind Alix’s mall and gave us or whoever would come looking, the middle finger.” He extended his phone to the captain and showed him an image of Majesty flipping them off.

“I never thought i would see the day when a cat flipped me off.

Well…not me particularly.” Abby laughed.

“The cat poisoned Lai Yanfang.” The captain didn’t care about Majesty giving them the middle finger.

He was more interested in how the cat had accomplished the impossible.

How did it enter the city?

How did it get to the lab and locate Lai Yanfang?

Why had it killed her?

“There is no evidence that the cat actually poisoned her or entered the city since it was not captured on any camera or leave behind any traces.

I am just giving you what my system has deduced as the most likely culprit.

I will need to continue investigating in order to find the route it took.

As for why it killed her, it must be because Tai Alix ordered it to do so.” The captain ignored the fact that Abby had read his mind, once again.

“Tai Alix and Zhang Caishen willingly surrendered Lai Yanfang to us.

Why would she turn around and order her cat to kill Lai Yanfang?

That doesn’t make sense.”  Abby shook his head.

“I have been catching up on doctor Nuwa’s notes from the moment of Lai Yanfang’s pick up to her arrival in the city.

I have also read the prosecutor general’s notes on how he came to find out that Lai Yanfang was a guest in the Zhang mansion and nowhere is Alix mentioned.

From that i deduced that her husband and the prosecutor general made a decision to hand Lai Yanfang over without consulting her first.”  “So, she finished her off permanently just because of that?” The prosecutor general scoffed, displeased.

“I don’t think it’s just because of that.” Abby tilted his head slightly to the right.

“There are many possible reasons why Tai Alix wanted Lai Yanfang permanently dead.

Maybe she was afraid that you would resurrect her somehow.

From their history, one of the two was always bound to kill the other.

If Lai Yanfang comes back to life she is a danger to Alix.

It’s also possible that Lai Yanfang knows a secret about Alix that she wants to keep buried.

The best way to ensure that it remains a secret is for Lai Yanfang to die, permanently.

Or maybe she simply hates the fact that Lai Yanfang had been taken out of her grasp.

The woman seems to enjoy keeping her enemies in endless pain attached to machines and tubes in hospitals.

Perhaps she just hates Lai Yanfang so much…” The captain raised his hand and stopped Abby.

“So you have nothing.”  “I have many more theories and i can follow them up if you give me a little time and allow me to question the suspect.”  The captain laughed at Abby and he leaned back in his chair, looking very relaxed and amused like he had just heard the funniest joke in the world.
