It was not unexpected of course as the system had explained to her that these things would reset on every new world.

Sighing, she started to arm herself.

Even though the freezing guns were the most appropriate weapons for the challenge on this world, a good sword could never hurt.

Besides, she did enjoy slicing off monster heads whenever possible.

She strapped on two energy swords, attaching them to her belt.

Then, she fastened her shoes and put a gas mask over her nose.

It was smaller than the ones used on earth, without any strings or tubes.

It was just a small nose shaped item.

Two more guns were attached to her back and she set her watch on a timer.

she intended to game for a maximum of two hours and then go to sleep.

“We are passing through the first rift.” the system pet told her.

As soon as it told her, the space ship started shaking, rocked by external forces as she was pulled into a a darker place.

As if all the lights in the world had been switched off, her ship was surrounded by darkness.

The spaceship AI on detecting the darkness figured there was a need to light up their environment.

“Automatic…” “No lights.” she instructed hastily.

Other players had already arrived but the place was dark.

Where were their lights?

Additionally, she had seen someone on the forum asking about how to kill the monsters in the dark.

She made a few deductions and figured that it was better to stay in the darkness.

She opened her communication channels however in order to connect to the other gamers.

First, she sent out a greeting in the chat used by only members of her guild.

Alix:[ Hey guys.] Dark death: [Guild leader, you are here.

I was beginning to think that you had been bounced from the game.] Alix: [Are you on the the fourth world?] Dark death: [I left a few minutes ago after dying for the fifth time.

The game masters have rigged this one.] Alix[?????????] Dark death: [We can’t see in the dark and we die the moment we turn our lights on.

Those things appear and disappear out of nowhere.] Alix: [Has anyone killed any?]  Hero: [I have killed two.]  Alix: [Any advise?] Dark death: [Help!

sob, sob, sob.] She waited for twenty minutes and there was no response from Hero.

In fact, after twenty minutes, the other player went off line, logging out of game.

“I guess it’s every man for himself.” Alix said to herself, and then she chuckled lightly.

She was not surprised that Hero was choosing not to help.

They were not friends, just colleagues___, occasional ones at that.

However, she didn’t think the other party would reject to help outright.

“In this game, there are wolves and then there are sheep.

Hero thinks she is a lone alpha wolf.

You don’t need her help, you have me.”  It was a little unbelievable to her how the system actually managed to sound caring.

But, thinking about that creepy feeling made her have an opinion opposite to his.

“I don’t think anybody should be lone wolfing this world.” she replied.

She took a deep calculated breath and stood up.

She couldn’t delay it any further, she had to step out of the spaceship and start what was expected of her, hunting for monsters.

Alix evacuated the spaceship and stood upright, out in the open.

She tightened her fingers around the triggers of both guns in her hands.

“Lights on.”  She couldn’t hunt what she couldn’t see and she needed to see if she was to hunt.

Her extraordinary eyesight in the real world was not helping her in this situation.

The game developers had really gone out of their way to even the playing field.

The shadows started to move as soon as those bright lights came on, lighting up the rift.

Alix could feel the first monster approaching her from behind.

Because she had seen the video of one shooting that weird fire from it’s hands, she didn’t want to risk being burnt so she fell onto her back, immediately.

“Shoot up.” the system told her.

Not wasting a moment, she fired off more than one shot without hesitating.

“Left.” the system yelled.

Her eyes turned sharp and she squeezed her eyes tightly before turning her head and firing off more shots.

“Down.” the system called out.

“No, behind.”  She sat up and fired just as a hot near searing blue fire hit her from the back.

“Arrrrghhh” she screamed.

She pointed one of her hands in the direction where the blue flame had come from and she fired.

The pain from the sting caused by the flame which had hit her was very painful but she forced herself to endure it.

“Lights off.” she cried out.

She opened the hatch and returned to the safety of the space ship along with five fully ice encased bodies of the humanoid monsters.

“Ah, ah, ah…..” she continued to cry out.

Before doing anything else, she needed to see the damage which had been done.

The space ship was high tech and it came with a robot assistant that scanned and provided medical help to her.

As soon as the burn medicine touched her back, she screamed even more because the pain doubled instead of reducing.

“Son of a fruit!!!” In response to her cry, the robot provided feedback.

“Unknown poison detected in the burns, an analysis of the wounds will be taken.

Please wait for ten minutes.”  “Oh great!” she replied sarcastically.

She wiped away the tears in her eyes and gave herself a pep talk in her mind.

This was a victory, as far as she was concerned.

She had not died, not like most of the other players.

She got the poison antidote from the second world and chugged down a whole mouthful of the precious liquid.

She didn’t know if it help but she would try anything to alleviate the pain at this moment.

Luckily for her, within thirty seconds, the pain was cut by more than half.

“Scan my body and maximize my endurance points.” she told the system.

“You should have warned me about being burned and how much it hurts or the poison in the energy flames.” “I told you that it’s like radiation on your world.

Keep in mind that i have not had a lot of time to explore this world.” The system reminded her.

Alix looked at the image of her burned back on the virtual screen.

It was red and purple, with streaks of black.

The fire had burned through her outfit which was the artificial exo-skeleton from the third world.

She had foolishly assumed that because they were both high tech worlds, what worked there would work here but she was dead wrong.

“I am going to need a stronger more durable outfit.” she said softly.

Now that the she wasn’t in pain, she decided to take her anger out on the humanoid monsters.

She stood up and picked up one of her swords which she had thrown down on the floor when she was in pain.

She approached the first monster which was still alive but frozen.

“Go to hell.”  She swung her hand down with precision, beheading it swiftly.
