416: A late worm 416: A late worm “That is a condition which i gave to the elder of the Ren family already and he has assured me that you and your wife will be getting an apology.”  “Good.”  Caishen doubted that the apology would hold any sincerity and he knew that his wife would not buy it but she would silently accept it.

Whether she displayed her disdain for Rui Ka Kui publicly or not was another matter.

As for comments on the marriage alliance with the Rui’s he would reserve the rest of his judgements.

It wasn’t as if his grandfather would change his mind about it.

Besides, it wasn’t his marriage anyway.

“Now, about the cleansing which is needed in all companies, let’s begin with the executives.

Bo, most of them are your people but how many do you still trust?”  The conversation took a different turn and for the moment, all grudges and marriages were forgotten.

Another thing which was forgotten was Nana who had run upstairs in tears hopeful that her husband would run after her.

It had been minutes and nobody had come after her.

Now, she was peeking through the door with her red puffy eyes.

“So nobody cares about me in this house.” she muttered angrily.

They had not even sent a maid to check on her.

Nana was feeling wronged because she had been woken early to help prepare a big traditional breakfast.

“I bet they would all be gathered here if it was that darn Yura.” she whispered.

There was not a single day that passed without her thinking about Yura and making comparisons between the two of them.

It also didn’t help that grandma Zhang often made comparisons when it came to how Yura run the house efficiently and Nana just seemed to be failing.

Every single day that passed, her loathing for Yura grew and she wished she would erase the other woman from the surface of the earth.

Nana picked up her phone and decided it was time to call in reinforcements.

She started sobbing as soon as the call she made was answered.

“Mother, i need you.

I am suffering so much ever since i moved here.

Yue…i mean Xian has changed so much ever since we moved in with his parents.

They treat me like a slave and lock me in the house all day.

I spent a little money to do some shopping and Xian shouted at me.

I think he is still in contact with his ex wife and they are plotting to throw me out.

After everything we did for Xian, how could he do this to me…..”  She broke off and wailed loudly and deeply as if she had been harmed physically.

There was a maid that had come over with a fresh pair of bedsheets for the bed.

Since the door was open, she had pushed it a little further intending to go inside.

On hearing the contents of the conversation, she frowned and turned back.

Her steps carried her in the direction of the dining room.

Everything she had just heard, she would relay to the elder.

******************************* Alix opened her eyes at seven thirty, thanks to the loud singing of the system elf which was unusually cheerful on this day.

“La-di-da la-di-da..” The blue elf moved from side to side, swaying it’s small body.

“Shut up for a minute, will you.” she groaned.

She sat up and looked at the time before looking at the blue virtual screen.

“What’s making you so happy?” As soon as she asked the question, her eyes widened and she gasped in expectation.

Immediately, she moved her finger to the fourth world.

Previously, it was nothing but a black locked door but now, it was grey.

[Six hours to open, all players should prepare for a new adventure.]  “It’s opening.” she squealed.

Out of excitement, without realizing, she found herself singing the same tune the system elf was singing.

“La-di….” “That’s not why i am excited.” it said.

“La…huh!” she paused.

On the virtual screen, the blue elf showed her something else, something that made her jaw drop.

It was even better than the fourth world opening up.

Using fingers from both of her hands, she pried her eyes wide open and shook her head.

That was not enough to satisfy her, she counted off numbers on her fingers.

“How many figures are those?” she asked in a whisper.

“Two billion, that’s two billion.

You have two billion sitting in your bank account right now.

The bank has been trying to reach you…..” Alix couldn’t hear whatever else the system was saying to her.

It all just went over her head like useless noise.

She just sat there on the bed with an idiotic smile on her face not knowing how to react to this news.

Her mind processed the information with as much speed as it could.

Suddenly, she reached her hand up and slapped herself on the cheek.

The pain she lavished on herself served as the wake up call she needed.

“Ouch!” She winced in pain and held her palm over the right side of her cheek which she had slapped.

She shook her body slightly as if she was waking up from a slumber.

“Did i just hear you say two billion?”  “Yes, you dumb host.” The system answered.

Alix giggled like a drunk fool and fell back on the bed like a sack of potatoes.

As exciting as it was to suddenly wake up a billionaire, she just didn’t know how to react to the news.

Ideally, she should have been screaming and jumping for joy but she didn’t feel the urge to do so.

She just felt numb, as if it was not unusual for her to have this much money.

“Aren’t you excited?” the system asked.

It was puzzled by her reaction.

Old Alix would have been screaming the roof down.

“I don’t feel any different.” she answered softly.

She was still Alix, nothing about her had changed physically.

She was simply richer now.

“So why are you crying?” it asked.

She moved her head in shock and her right hand reached up, touching the bottom of her eyes.

It was was slightly wet and she was actually crying without realizing it.

“What is this?” she asked herself.

“Perhaps you are overwhelmed.” The system suggested.

“I should scan your body for any other unexpected physical changes.

Do you feel any sudden escalating heart palpitations?”  She touched her heart and shook her head.

Her heart was beating steadily but the in take of air through her mouth was increasing.

“Am i going to have a panic attack?” she asked herself.

It certainly felt like that.

She used to have them in the past on a few occasions.

The system tapped a picture of medicine in a vial and a pink syringe.

“I recommend a shot of this medicine, one jab and you will be as relaxed as a baby in the womb.

Just in case you have forgotten, you have a mall to open and your mother has called about ten times.” It was already eight, Alix realized.

“Fruit, i am late.” she muttered.

“A very late worm.” “A very late and very rich worm.” The system corrected.

“La-di-da….” It resumed its happy singing.

It had money to spend now, billions of it.
