The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system -
Chapter 358 - 358 Lai and Lai
358: Lai and Lai 358: Lai and Lai Those were not words she wanted to hear from the system, ever.
Another game player was a major threat to her because she was an illegal player.
If she came across this individual, a decision would have to be made.
“But it’s just a speculation right now host, you don’t have to imagine the worst possible scenarios as of yet.
I will search through the professor’s records and see where he bought the plant stimulation serum.” With minor words of assurance from the system, she stopped scratching the back of her hand and also stopped looking at the blood orchid.
“Why don’t we go to my office and talk some more?” Professor Lai was not aware of the internal struggles Alix was facing and he wanted to get her away from the blood orchid because she did not appear to have changed her mind about its danger level.
He was also desperate to get his hands on what was inside the box.
He was hoping for something as magnificent as the blood orchid.
“Tell me all about this blood sample that you want me to analyze for you?” “I will tell you when we are inside your office.
I…..” Professor Lai entered his office and she stepped inside as well.
Her response died on her lips pretty quickly once she looked inside.
It wasn’t the computer, disorganization of the office or white mice in cages that stunned her.
What made the words dry on her lips was one of the pictures on his wall.
Professor Lai had many pictures on his wall, certificates too and different awards.
Most of the pictures were harmless of course, just images of him shaking hands with important men and women, him in the middle of a few students, a few inside a green forest.
However, there was one particular picture in which a younger, smiling, youthful Lai Yanfang was hugging him from the side.
Suddenly, Alix put two and two together as she came to a couple of realizations.
One was that professor Lai was one of those people that felt the need to show off his accomplishments.
He was proud of them and he needed others to know just how important he was.
It was not a surprise that he was aiming as high as he could with the blood orchid.
Realization two was that the professor and Caishen’s ex-girlfriend shared the same surname.
They appeared to be close in the picture, like father and daughter.
“They are both named Lai.” she said in her mind.
“I should have looked at her family tree sooner.” The system responded.
Professor Lai noticed Alix’s eyes on his wall of pictures and he smiled.
“Oh, i was looing for special fungus in the Black forest of Germany.” He leaned against his desk and crossed his left leg over the right one as he smiled fondly at the picture, reliving the memories.
“There is a rumor about a particular fungus in that forest with the power to bring someone back to life.
The locals swear by it and claim that four people who should have died lived after eating the fungus.” He turned his head back and shook his head.
“It turned out to be false because what we found was a mushroom that causes hallucination.” “Mmmm…” Alix responded.
“Is that your daughter?” She didn’t care about his trip to the Black forest.
What she needed to know was his relationship with Lai Yanfang.
“Uncle.” The answer came from the system elf first.
“Oooh, that is my favorite niece.” He sat down in his chair and looked Alix over from head to toe.
“She is not that much older than you are.
She is a painter, if you like art, i recommend that you acquire some of hers.” Then, he pointed at a black and white painting of what looked like half faces of tormented people and square lines.
“That is one of her works, from her alive or dead series.
Each painting was sold for a huge sum of money.
You will not regret buying her works.
They are good investments because when she becomes world famous, the price will triple.” “It’s ugly.” The system mumbled.
The professor was gushing with love and pride when he talked about Yanfang.
It radiated on his face and through the tone of his voice.
You could see how close they were just from this alone.
This told Alix that he was the wrong person to come to for help.
He could easily talk about her to Yanfang and expose the Zhang family’s private affairs.
It wasn’t as if she needed his help anyway because the system had already given her the answers she needed about the poison.
Her reason for coming here was because she needed a human explanation to provide to grandpa Zhang.
The hospital would not detect the poison because they didn’t know what they were looking for.
“I think you and my niece would be very great friends or maybe she could be like a big sister.
I have her card somewhere so i….” He was still mumbling as he rummaged carelessly through the things on his table to find a business card for Lai Yanfang.
Alix wanted to leave immediately.
She couldn’t trust the professor before looking into him further and she didn’t want Lai Yanfang’s contact.
They could never be friends or have a sibling like relationship.
The frog and scorpion story could be applied in their situation as well.
Yanfang was the scorpion in this case.
She didn’t want to give herself away or appear rude so she pretended that she was answering a call.
“Hello, Jenny.
What!, an emergency, i understand.” She carried her box, holding it firmly in her hand and said, “Professor, i have to go right now.
There is an emergency at school, something to do with my brother.” Turning on her heels without waiting for his response, she dashed out of his office at maximum speed.
By the time professor Lai turned around to stop her, she had made it to the gardens.
Professor Lai realized that she had left with the box of orchids she intended to sell and his face dropped.
‘Wait,” he shouted and he started running after her.
Because he was running, the guards assumed Alix had stolen something so they engaged in a chase as well, alerting others not to let her out.
“Seal every door.” One of them yelled into his radio.
It was too late, Alix had already found the emergency exit and she used the stairs to evacuate the building.
She made it to the entrance and found her car already parked and waiting as expected.
It wasn’t just a single car waiting for her but two cars.
Before she reached, the car door was opened for her.
She tossed the box inside and Majesty leaped off her shoulders.
He dashed into the car, in search of the warmest place.
Alix sat inside and the door was closed by Bi Cang.
“Let’s go home uncle Ju.” By the time professor Lai made it to the entrance with the guards, she had been gone for a minute and thirty seconds.
“Shit!” Professor Lai cursed.
He was out of breath from running and feeling disappointed for missing out on a new orchid.
“Why are you guys so slow?” he asked the guards at the entrance of the building.
“Professor what did she steal?” The head of security asked him.
“We need details, images and a valuation before making a police report.” “When did i say that she stole something?” he asked them in wonder.
“So why were you chasing her?” he asked.
“I was just exercising.
What, can’t i just run around?” he responded curtly.
He turned around and took an elevator, leaving behind confused guards.
Some of the bodyguards dispersed while others cursed him inside their minds.
Why had he caused a fuss over nothing?
