Chapter 630: Chapter 461: The Hard Thing in the Takeout Passage
After securing the two mocking magical items, Liu Zheng opened the lunch box on the cart.
As soon as he lifted the lid, a fiery glow lit up his face.
Thick magma flowed over the surface of the round cake, yet it didn’t really drip down, just like a chocolate shell.
On the cake surface, the number 13 was twisted into shape with wire, and an oversized dehydrated strawberry sat atop it, dusted with a layer of white powder resembling wall plaster, likely some kind of insulating material.
How to put it, it had the unique flair of Metropolis, a mix of shoddy and high-end.
"Name: Magma Strawberry Cake"
"Type: Item"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect: After consumption, enter a burned state, with burn severity related to physique."
"Note: Try stealing my takeout again! Eat it, eat it, eat!"
"Instance transfer allowed: Yes"
"Seriously, how can an item with purely negative effects be called excellent quality?"
Liu Zheng squinted and said.
"Oh, seems reasonable."
If it’s not for self-consumption but used as a harmful item, it does have some utility, after all, it inflicts a lasting debuff.
But then again, anyone daring enough to eat this is certainly fearless of burns, and if they won’t eat it, you’d need to force it on them anyway, might as well just finish them off directly.
Forget it, it’s free after all, no need to leave it unused.
Liu Zheng placed the lunch box into the Legendary Takeout Box, then walked into the delivery tunnel.
As he walked, he sensed something amiss.
Today’s delivery tunnel felt particularly narrow.
Extending his tentacles to each side, he walked faster, with the tunnel’s contraction pace quickening.
After taking about a dozen steps, the delivery tunnel had him entirely trapped inside.
"What do you mean by this?"
Considering the delivery tunnel might be part of the restaurant, Liu Zheng spoke politely.
The delivery tunnel didn’t respond but continued to slowly constrict.
However, the speed of contraction slowed down.
He frowned, yet didn’t take out the Slaughter Knife or the boning knife, instead trying to brace the tunnel’s pressing with his tentacles.
Unexpectedly, his tentacles directly sank into the wall.
"Hmm?"
Liu Zheng paused for a moment and then thoughtfully probed inside the wall.
Quickly, he touched something hard.
"Could it be..."
He had a bad premonition and squeezed it twice.
Fortunately, it felt like ceramic, not a hard, engorged flesh.
Liu Zheng clutched the object firmly and gently pulled it out.
As he did so, the walls on both sides receded, allowing the delivery tunnel to loosen again.
Apparently, his guess was correct, the delivery tunnel wanted him to take this thing.
"Can I leave now?"
Liu Zheng politely asked.
The delivery tunnel didn’t respond, so he assumed it was a silent agreement.
Walking out of the delivery tunnel, he examined the item in his hand.
It was a small white ceramic jar, resembling a pickle jar and somewhat like an urn, with nothing special in its shape.
However, the lid featured a golden statue resembling a scholar reading.
Liu Zheng held up the jar against the sunrise to observe the reflected sheen, then gave it a light bite.
"Hmm, it’s gold."
He nodded approvingly.
He removed the lid to have a look, finding it empty inside, but caught a peculiar scent.
Liu Zheng couldn’t identify it but instinctively felt it was some kind of spice or herb.
"I’ll have Doctor Nile take a sniff later."
Mainly because Worker New City and the Clinic are in the same direction, otherwise he wouldn’t waste his time.
He placed the ceramic jar into the Legendary Takeout Box, not rushing to head for Worker New City, but stayed put, waiting.
Soon, a pickup truck pulled up in front of Liu Zheng.
"Here’s your ride."
The driver poked his head out from the roof and said to him.
"Thanks, Colonel."
"No big deal. By the way, did you go and make another explosion yesterday?"
The driver suddenly asked.
"You know about that?"
"You have the scent of gunpowder on you, you can’t hide it from my nose."
The driver boasted proudly.
"Impressive, truly impressive."
"Why didn’t you call me?"
The driver questioned.
"You said it was inconvenient for a break, so I didn’t bother you."
He explained.
"I’m always up for explosions. Next time something fun like this happens, you’d better tell me, or I’ll really get mad."
The driver said sternly.
"Uh, okay. I didn’t expect it to explode either."
Liu Zheng explained about the expired pesticide’s effect and the accidental fireball explosion involving bugs.
"Alright, I’ll forgive you this time. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again, affecting our relationship."
With that, the driver vanished into the cabin.
"I really should show those rumor-spreaders, this is what a real explosion maniac looks like."
Liu Zheng shook his head and then sat in the cabin.
The choice of a pickup was naturally for its dual use for passengers and cargo, and its power performance being better than a sedan, while the truck bed is also more flexible than a cabin.
No matter what demands Niu Ma’s wife might have, he could handle them easily.
The other party couldn’t possibly claim to be a race car driver and ask him to race with a pickup, right?
If it comes to that, even in Metropolis, Liu Zheng could only think Niu Ma was pulling one over on him.
Starting the engine, he floored the pedal and soon arrived at the clinic’s entrance.
"Here, fresh merchandise, quality assured."
