Chapter 539: Chapter 415 System, I hope you can be more sensible_2
"If you can’t manage the people in the kitchen, it just shows you’re incompetent. It’s got nothing to do with me."
Niu Ma sneered in retort.
"Fine, fine! Let’s see if you have the guts to stop coming to the kitchen for leftovers in the future!"
Napoleon fumed angrily.
"Then don’t expect me to run outside and buy things for you anymore."
Niu Ma snapped back sharply.
"Uh, bosses, calm down, don’t strain your relationship because of me."
Liu Zheng attempted to mediate.
"Get lost!"
Both Niu Ma and White Feather Chicken shouted at him in unison.
"Alright then, I’ll go roll to the boss and report some issues."
He promptly lay down on the floor, curled himself into a ball, and rolled toward the door.
"Come back!"
Niu Ma and White Feather Chicken shouted in unison again.
"Sure thing!"
Liu Zheng rolled back obediently.
"What are you planning to report?"
Niu Ma asked.
"Oh, I think the tension between the Takeout Department and the Kitchen is too serious. I’m considering suggesting to the boss that the two departments be merged into one."
He said with a deadpan seriousness.
"Absolutely not! From the day Bloody Restaurant was established, the Takeout Department and Kitchen have been separate, how could you change that casually?"
White Feather Chicken exclaimed loudly.
"Exactly, exactly."
Niu Ma agreed eagerly.
One department can only have two bosses—merging them would only piss them off.
Whoever doesn’t make it as boss obviously doesn’t want to settle as second-in-command, and whoever becomes the boss certainly won’t like having a rival with equal power hanging around.
Besides, though Niu Ma had ideas of starting his own faction someday, he hadn’t succeeded yet.
Imagine having to spend his remaining days as a deputy to Napoleon—that would be a living hell.
And going out as a departmental boss versus going out as a deputy, the status is worlds apart.
If anyone else proposed this idea, they would have beaten that idiot senseless or treated it as pure nonsense.
But Liu Zheng—this kid—they couldn’t afford to gamble on him.
After all, his track record was utterly bizarre, and his frequency of being summoned by the boss was unnervingly high.
Three times in seven days; they couldn’t even fathom such numbers, much less witness them.
"But I’m worried that letting the two department heads go on like this will hinder work."
Liu Zheng said worriedly.
"Nothing of the sort. We two are great buddies, practically brothers from another mother."
Niu Ma denied outright.
"Yeah, if it weren’t for this phone separating us, I’d be linking arms with him right now."
White Feather Chicken chimed in.
"Alright, if that’s the case, then I’ll be at ease."
He said with a relieved look.
"Ha."
Niu Ma and White Feather Chicken rolled their eyes so hard they almost reached the heavens.
"Alright, what exactly do you want from me, human."
After the brief interlude, White Feather Chicken’s tone turned icy again.
"Oh, just made a trip out of town and picked up some good stuff. Wanted to see if you’re interested in it."
Liu Zheng replied.
"What good stuff?"
"The head of Shao Yanming, a minor deity of the High Heaven Divine System, and a pile of Great Jiang Mountain demon corpses."
He answered.
"What?!"
White Feather Chicken showed a hint of shock.
"You somehow got your hands on a god’s head? It’s not some low-grade demigod substitute, is it?"
It asked suspiciously.
Though some demigods like Hercules and Hou Yi could slay gods like they were chickens, most demigods couldn’t hold a candle to a proper deity.
"No, it’s a bona fide god, and it retains most of its divine power essence."
Liu Zheng shook his head.
"Wait right there, I’m coming over now."
White Feather Chicken said and hung up abruptly.
Soon, the door to the break room was knocked on.
"Where’s the stuff?"
As soon as the door was opened, White Feather Chicken asked impatiently.
"Here, take a look."
Liu Zheng opened the Legendary Takeout Box.
"It really is a god’s head. Wow, the divine essence here is rich—it’ll make a fantastic pot of soup."
White Feather Chicken sniffed once, a dazed look flashing through its eyes.
"Yeah, its scent is indeed potent."
He remarked with a strange expression.
When the god you’re dealing with is the Spirit of Lust and Herbs, the aroma is bound to be overwhelmingly intense.
"Not bad. Ever since I cooked up the Great Black Buddha Mother last time, I haven’t come across any decent divine ingredients. The ones in the cold storage are way too high-grade—no one can afford their price."
"This is perfect, this one’s just perfect!"
A lower rank, but its flavor was more unique than even higher-grade divine beings—a top-tier ingredient by nature.
White Feather Chicken stared at Shao Yanming’s head with avarice.
"Name your price, human."
It said decisively.
"I want ’Gluttony.’"
Liu Zheng replied, as the material description of the Western-style chef’s knife appeared in his mind again.
"Name: Gluttony"
"Type: Equipment"
"Quality: Perfect"
"Effect One: Ingredients cut by this chef’s knife are restored to their optimal state (limited to excellent quality and below)."
"Effect Two: Enemies hit by this chef’s knife are devoured proportionally to their appetite."
"Effect Three: When the chef’s knife is satiated, the player can transform into the ’Gluttonous Demon’ for one minute."
"Remark: If it’s tasty, eat to your heart’s content."
"Can it be taken out of the instance: Yes"
Compared to Effect One and Effect Three, Liu Zheng was more interested in Effect Two.
The crucial factor that allowed Liu Zheng to defeat all kinds of powerful enemies with various items was the true damage attached to his Legendary Armor.
But since the Legendary Armor couldn’t be taken out of the instance, and whether the Legendary Set could be taken out was also uncertain...
If the next instance didn’t have true damage, he’d be like a blind man without hands, unable to stand or move.
"Gluttony’s" second effect could fill in for part of the Legendary Armor’s functionality.
"No way."
White Feather Chicken refused outright.
"Let alone the fact that ’Gluttony’ is one of the chef’s knives I’m most comfortable using, as one of the components of the ’Seven Deadly Sins,’ it’s impossible for me to trade it away."
The "Seven Deadly Sins" are the ultimate culinary tools every chef dreams of having. If White Feather Chicken obtained them, he could truly ascend to become Metropolis’ "Kitchen God."
By then, even Bloody Restaurant wouldn’t be able to restrict his freedom anymore.
"Then I want the Wood Elf’s corpse."
Liu Zheng said immediately.
"Ah, so this was your real target all along, human."
White Feather Chicken sneered.
He simply smiled without saying anything.
All intelligent beings are good at finding compromises.
If you ask for their life, they’ll definitely refuse.
But if you put a knife to their throat and say you want their skin, they’d respond, "Oh, so it’s just that, eh?"
"Do you even know what you’re asking for?"
White Feather Chicken queried.
"The Wood Elf’s corpse."
"Ignorant fool. Do you think a typical Wood Elf carries Epoch Acorns?"
White Feather Chicken scoffed.
Its memory appeared to be exceptional as well.
"What’s that?"
"It’s the corpse of a Wood Elf Royal Family member, bought at a premium by the last head chef from the dwarves. Your divine head is indeed nice, but it’s still slightly inferior to the corpse of a Wood Elf Royalty."
White Feather Chicken explained.
"What if I add the demon corpses as well?"
Liu Zheng gestured toward a stack of burlap sacks in the corner.
He had borrowed these from Jinzi to drag them over.
"Bring them closer."
White Feather Chicken said indifferently.
"Sure."
Liu Zheng dragged the sacks closer and opened them for White Feather Chicken to inspect.
"Oh, this doesn’t look bad."
White Feather Chicken’s eyes lit up.
"But they’re all dismembered parts, and the internal organs are a mess. If they were intact bodies, they would’ve been more than enough."
It shook its head again.
"So it’s just right now?"
Liu Zheng probed cautiously.
"No, it’s still a bit short."
White Feather Chicken said, smirking.
"Can the remaining gap be paid for in cash?"
"No. This is public property—it’s strictly barter only."
White Feather Chicken said.
"Fine, then I’ll use myself to cover the gap."
Liu Zheng gritted his teeth.
"You?"
White Feather Chicken looked him over, then surprisingly nodded.
"It’s not out of the question."
"Come with me and bring the stuff."
It motioned with its wing for Liu Zheng to follow and started walking toward a side path.
"Alright."
Liu Zheng used his tentacles to bind the sacks and was just about to head out when Niu Ma’s phone suddenly rang.
"Hello, boss! Yes, I’ll relay the message right away."
Niu Ma hung up and looked at Liu Zheng with a peculiar expression.
"Let’s go; the boss wants to see you again."
