Chapter 538: Chapter 415 System, I hope you can be more sensible

"You’d better keep your eyes on the road ahead, or you’ll summon the green vest later."

Liu Zheng squinted as he spoke.

"What, you scared now?"

The Colonel smirked mockingly.

"Yeah, I’m scared."

He admitted without hesitation.

Burn down Metropolis, my ass. He should at least figure out where he ranks in the scheme of things.

Blowing up a few floors already got him chased to the border. Burn a whole street? They’d probably hunt him to the ends of the universe.

Even with the Driver and the Red Ghost combined, they got crushed by City Hall. How the hell was he supposed to overthrow Metropolis?

"Tch, as expected, your purity level is still way too low."

The Driver holstered his handgun, and the illusion before them dissipated like smoke.

"Generally speaking, alloy performs better."

Liu Zheng retorted.

"But this isn’t just any ordinary place. This is Metropolis. Only those with a high enough purity can step onto the bigger stage. You’ll understand one day."

The Driver explained.

"I’d rather not understand at all."

He secretly thought to himself.

Not only did he not have a future, but it’d also be better if there wasn’t one.

Metropolis was exciting, sure, but way too intense. Once was enough for him.

Living a simple life—that’s the real deal. Yate, now that’s the good stuff—simple folk, peaceful lifestyle. Running instances there was practically like going on vacation.

"System, I hope you have the sense to cooperate a little."

Liu Zheng said internally to the system in his mind.

Of course, it didn’t respond at all.

"I’m heading back to restock and patch myself up. Won’t wait for you outside. Let me know when you need a ride."

Back at the Bloody Restaurant, the Driver said to him.

"Got it."

Liu Zheng answered as he entered the takeout corridor.

"Finally decided to drag your ass back, huh? I thought you were about to run off for good."

In the lounge, Niu Ma teased.

"I didn’t run when I crossed the border, but now I’d run when I’m back? I’d have to be terminally ill for that to make sense."

He replied, exasperated.

"Hmph. Who knows? Maybe you just couldn’t bear to part with Metropolis’s dazzling charms."

Niu Ma retorted.

"Never saw the sparkle, but yeah, the grit sure is gritty."

Liu Zheng rolled his eyes.

"Look at you, one little outing and you’re too tough to manage now, huh? Learned to..."

Niu Ma’s face darkened, and he was ready to curse, but held back at the last second.

"Got some specialties packed up from Bathhouse Street, and a vintage brew from Jidao Public Bath. Boss, how about filling up your stomach before scolding me?"

He grinned and pulled food and drink from the Legendary Takeout Box.

"Don’t think you can buy me off with some snacks. Once I’m done eating, you’re still getting a good beating. Now hurry up and bring it over."

Niu Ma grumbled.

"Got it, boss. Enjoy your meal."

Liu Zheng approached the scattered grass and laid out the food and wine in order.

"What’s with the dead head?"

Niu Ma asked, while shoveling in the food.

The moment the Legendary Takeout Box opened, it sensed Shao Yanming’s head’s aura.

"Oh, that’s God’s head, butchered on Bathhouse Street. Originally wanted to sell it to Dai Legao, but turns out this thing’s on Peacock’s special list. Nobody else dared accept it or help me broker a deal."

"So my plan was to bring it back and ask Napoleon if he’d want it, or maybe check in with the boss to see if it catches her interest."

Liu Zheng explained.

"You daring to drag our boss into a deal—yeah, you’re really begging for death now."

Niu Ma glared at him.

Sure, Liu Zheng had already pissed off equivalents like Peacock and Mr. Li, but those two didn’t have any direct ties to him.

City Hall might block Peacock from attacking him, but they couldn’t stop Si Xue from disciplining her underlings—unless the Supreme Councilman personally intervened.

"Business is business, even between family members. The boss is so beautiful, generous, and ridiculously wealthy—surely she can empathize with the struggles of a small fry like me."

Liu Zheng spoke respectfully.

That line was clearly aimed for Si Xue’s ears.

"Day in, day out, don’t know where you keep pulling out so many, ahem, sweet-talking platitudes."

Niu Ma muttered under his breath.

He was about to say "ass-kissing lines," but thankfully caught himself in time. Last time he didn’t, Si Xue nearly beat him half-dead, left him wriggling on the floor for hours.

"Alright, you two continue your chat."

Niu Ma dialed White Feather Chicken, then handed the phone to Liu Zheng.

"Human, when are you going to fulfill my request?"

White Feather Chicken dove straight into questioning.

"Soon, very soon. Rest assured, your matters are definitely at the top of my priority list."

Liu Zheng brushed it off.

"You’d better hope that’s true. Or else, I’ll make sure your heart ends up on my roasting rack."

White Feather Chicken threatened.

"Then I’d recommend scrubbing it down with extra toilet cleaner first—my heart’s pretty filthy."

He replied deadpan.

"Are you mocking me?"

White Feather Chicken’s tone turned severe.

"Oh, heavens no. Just throwing out a playful little remark to lighten the mood. After all, my boss is still eating—that kind of tension might affect his appetite."

Liu Zheng found himself an excuse.

"Talk all you want between yourselves, but leave me out of it. Napoleon, if this kid bothers you, go ahead and cook him—fry, roast, stew, grill—it’s all good. Just keep his head alive."

Niu Ma spoke without looking up.

"You’ve spoiled your subordinate way too much, Niu Ma. If everyone handled their staff like you, how’s the restaurant supposed to maintain order?"

Napoleon commented, sounding a bit annoyed.

Having climbed from a mere pet chicken to the Bloody Restaurant’s master chef, of course Napoleon could read Niu Ma’s subtext.

If a subordinate screws up or mouths off, punish them, sure—but don’t go overboard.

Given Liu Zheng’s regeneration abilities, though, anything less than "overboard" would pretty much amount to zero punishment.

"Save it. Every department in the restaurant runs its own business—when did it start crossing into other sections?"
