Chapter 383: Chapter 339 Did I Fight the Sewer Clone?_2
"So it really is you, Lord of the Sewers. I thought you were just Lao Deng, the Fisherman, in disguise,"
Liu Zheng was taken aback.
"He doesn’t have the guts to pretend to be me."
"So, it seems you don’t hold much of a grudge against me?"
He shrunk his neck and said.
"Since you’ve already completed my request, and the egg has been returned, I see no need to punish you further. Of course, if you do a poor job next time, I’ll settle both old and new scores together,"
the Sewer sneered.
"Ahahaha."
Liu Zheng forced a laugh.
"Then what did you mean just now when you said you couldn’t decide?"
"What is a brain for?"
the Sewer retorted.
"Uh, for growing?"
he ventured after some thought.
"I don’t think so, if you can give such an answer, then your brain hasn’t grown at all."
the Sewer mocked.
"..."
Liu Zheng found himself speechless.
He’d always thought the Sewer was a fool, but now he had been ridiculed by the fool himself.
"A brain is for storing will; to give you my brain would be like losing one will. I am but one of the many wills of the Sewer, and I’m not qualified to make decisions for the other wills. If we’re to exchange, then I can only give myself back to you,"
"Do you think that’s possible?"
the Sewer challenged, staring at Liu Zheng.
"I think... it’s not very likely."
Liu Zheng struggled to suppress his self-destructive impulse.
"Good to know."
"So, let’s forget about swapping brains."
"I didn’t say it was impossible,"
the Sewer replied.
"Huh? Didn’t you just say you couldn’t decide on this matter?"
he asked, puzzled.
"I merely said I wasn’t in a position to decide; I didn’t say this matter couldn’t be dealt with,"
the Sewer stated emotionlessly.
"What do you mean by that?"
"You know I can go above ground, right?"
"I do, I do,"
Liu Zheng hastened to say.
The Fisherman had told him that if the hemorrhoid surgery failed, the Sewer would come straight up to catch him, and not even the Bloody Restaurant could protect him.
"I once sent a split soul out for a task. The task was completed, but the split soul, due to an accident, developed its own will and stayed outside without returning,"
"It severed from me, so I don’t know what happened to it later, but through our innate resonance, I could tell where it settled last,"
"So if you can bring it back, I’ll make the exchange with you,"
the Sewer said.
"Ah? Me?"
Liu Zheng made a face like a catfish.
He didn’t have a cosplay outfit, couldn’t even beat the Sewer’s fish, and now the Sewer was asking him to catch its split soul?
He might as well go try a one-on-one with the Peacock instead.
"Aren’t you the brave one? How come you’re scared of this little thing?"
the Sewer gave Liu Zheng a slanted look.
"Well, you might not know, but I’m actually a coward at heart, I don’t even dare to stab too deep,"
he said sheepishly.
"Quit blathering and pull out the map,"
the Sewer glared at him.
"Right away!"
Liu Zheng swiftly unfolded the map, not bothering to ponder why the Sewer knew he had one.
"He’s here, got it?"
the Sewer pointed at the map, right on the location of the cemetery.
"He’s dead?"
he immediately guessed.
"The body is for sure dead, but the soul may not be. Being my split soul, even without the nourishment of my main body, the strength of the will isn’t comparable to ordinary beings. But without a body, it would definitely be much weaker,"
"Besides, it’s been dead for over ten years, which means it’s even weaker than when it just died,"
the Sewer explained.
"Ah? But those souls don’t seem to get weaker; they appear even stronger,"
Liu Zheng doubted.
After all, the Red Pig seemed much stronger after death, and even if Niu Ma was holding back, it wouldn’t just take hits passively.
Being able to beat Niu Ma so badly he didn’t dare visit the graves, it definitely had some skills.
"Can my doppelganger be just like any regular soul?"
The sewer spoke disdainfully.
"That it can."
He agreed in a cooperative manner.
"The soul of my doppelganger won’t be enhanced by the cemetery’s power, but at the same time, it won’t be corrupted by it either. Those souls you see, they simply cannot leave the cemetery."
"Even for those who are still alive, after staying in the cemetery for too long, once they die, they’re bound to return there, unless their souls are also destroyed."
The sewer continued.
"Eh? Then how come someone I know didn’t return to the cemetery?"
Liu Zheng talked about the Old Vampire’s situation.
"In the Metropolis, ritualistic attacks often harm both the body and the soul. That Little Vampire you mentioned, clearly had its soul sucked dry as well."
The sewer provided an answer promptly.
"I see."
He realized with an epiphany.
And so, he acquired another important piece of knowledge that was of no practical use.
"Alright, I’m going to go back to sleep. When you bring back my doppelganger, I’ll give you his brain."
The sewer announced.
"But you said he’s already dead, can the brain still be used?"
Liu Zheng inquired.
"The brain is merely a vessel for will. Bring him back to me, and of course, I can grow another brain. Although it won’t be as good as the original, it will be sufficient for you to appease your boss."
The sewer explained.
"Understood. In that case, there’s another matter I’d like to discuss with your excellency."
He said, slightly embarrassed with a laugh.
"Speak."
"Well, is it possible for me to keep the Black Deer Head and exchange something else for your brain?"
"..."
The sewer stared at him in silence, like looking at a fish that had sought out its own hook.
"Did I give you the wrong impression that I am easy to talk to? While I am indeed the most lucid and intelligent among the many wills, my temper is not the best."
He said coldly.
"Please don’t be angry, you see..."
Liu Zheng fully disclosed his deal with Unlucky Coffee.
"Humans, you really do play both ends against the middle, trying to get the best of every deal."
The sewer looked at him with disdain.
"I have no choice, do I? Being so weak, I have to seize every opportunity to become stronger if I want to survive in the Metropolis."
He said frankly.
And as long as the order at the City Hall could be maintained, becoming richer also meant becoming stronger.
"You’re not weak, not at all. A mixed-blood of a Black Mountain Goat Cub that has heard the Gospel is a rare breed among the many families. Moreover, the random markings all over you are horrifyingly numerous, some I’ve not even seen before."
The sewer’s gaze swept over Liu Zheng’s tentacles, where there was a mark of a golden human skull.
"This... if I say I didn’t want it either, would you believe me?"
He shrugged.
"I believe you. Serving one master demonstrates loyalty, serving two masters is opportunistic, but serving a multitude of masters is just waiting to be carved up and thrown into a pot."
The sewer nodded.
"Exactly. To be frank, I’m running ragged."
Liu Zheng agreed wholeheartedly.
He sidestepped one big shot’s tasks only to deal with another’s.
He could afford to offend none; a misstep could mean instant death or, at the very least, a solid beating.
Had it not been for his childhood experiences that gave him a spine both flexible and resilient, he would have already collapsed under the pressure.
"Everything has its price. Being able to serve as a dog is already a form of luck."
The sewer stated.
"I thought you would want me to be your dog exclusively."
Liu Zheng was a bit surprised.
"I did indeed think that at first, but considering my situation and your particular talents, perhaps it’s better to let you continue as everyone’s cloud-kept dog. As long as you serve me well, whether you are exclusively my dog doesn’t matter."
"After all, I already have my own dog."
The sewer stated bluntly.
And the dog he referred to was obviously the Fisherman.
"Alright. So do you agree?"
Liu Zheng asked eagerly.
"Giving you everything is out of the question, however, I could separate the heart of the deer carcass and give that to you."
The sewer proposed.
"That works too, a little gain is still a gain. So, what are your conditions?"
He queried.
"Very simple."
The sewer paused before responding.
"Just beat up Red Ghost for me."
