The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human? -
Chapter 283 - 277 Humans are Beasts in Themselves
Chapter 283: Chapter 277 Humans are Beasts in Themselves
Liu Zheng executed a nimble backward leap, avoiding the Flame Beast’s attack.
The massive body slammed into the ground, its excavator-like beast claws leaving two startling gouges in the hard rocky surface.
"Good grief,"
he marveled at the claw marks.
This power definitely surpassed Beethoven, and him as well, but he wondered how it would compare to San Huamao.
If it were a regular beast, such a crash would have been enough to cause internal bleeding or even dislocation.
But this Flame Beast didn’t even pause, immediately springing up again, its dark claws slashing through the air with a piercing sound towards Liu Zheng.
"Can’t take it head-on."
Facing that tearing force, he quickly decided and leaped to the side again.
The beast’s claw missed again, the immense force causing the entire sanctuary to tremble.
However, this time the Flame Beast didn’t gather strength for another attack but opened its mouth instead.
Bright flames, like blood, surged from its body towards its mouth, finally forming a red fireball that shot out.
"Bang!"
The sound resembled that of a cannon firing, the fireball trailing a long tail of flames like a meteor.
And the direction of the fireball’s blast was exactly where Liu Zheng had leaped to, and at this moment, he hadn’t even fully landed.
"Shit!"
Liu Zheng cursed in his mind.
The opponent had clearly anticipated his movements; such high combat intelligence, could it really be a mere beast?
It was definitely too late to dodge now; he thought about it and decided to withstand the blast and see.
The broad Slaughter Knife was turned sideways, shielding Liu Zheng’s head.
And the fireball arrived in an instant, hitting directly where Liu Zheng’s face was.
The nearly thousand-degree heat instantly turned the blade of the Slaughter Knife red hot, burning his body with splashing flames, scalding his hand holding the hilt with many blisters.
But quickly, those burned areas peeled off, and new flesh grew out.
"Who doesn’t have a superpower"
Liu Zheng said smugly.
The Flame Beast paused for a moment at this sight, hesitating for a time.
But soon, it grew agitated again.
"Monster!"
It bellowed unclearly, its body flames growing brighter and hotter, resembling a pyre.
"Hey, compared to you I’m pretty anthropomorphic, right?"
Liu Zheng retorted irritably.
At least his body shape was still human-like, and he didn’t have as much fur as the Flame Beast did.
In response to his rebuttal, the Flame Beast launched an even more ferocious claw strike.
"Damn it, if I could trigger ’Angry Fire Burning Body,’ I would fight you blade to blade and kill you,"
Liu Zheng muttered under his breath, dodging its swipe again.
Unfortunately, he really couldn’t rouse much anger against such a beast, even with "easy to anger syndrome."
He learned his lesson this time and directly dodged to the side and rear of the Flame Beast, jumping twice in succession.
However, just when it seemed the beast’s claw had lost its momentum, flames suddenly burst from the back of the paw, accelerating it once again.
"Damn, jet-powered blades"?
Liu Zheng was taken aback; this boss had too many small tricks.
Facing the twice-accelerated claw, he could no longer dodge and just braced himself with the Slaughter Knife.
The claw, harder than steel, collided with the Slaughter Knife, emitting a grating metallic wail.
And he was hurled backward from the immense force, crashing heavily against a stone pillar.
Two breaking sounds occurred simultaneously as the pillar, strong enough to support the heavy ceiling, was shattered into a spiderweb of cracks.
And as the thrown object, Liu Zheng fared worse, his entire spine crushed and his organs variously damaged.
"Puh!"
He spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, creating a blossom of blood on the ground.
And the Flame Beast, originally intending to pursue, stopped abruptly at the sight of the blood, retreating backwards.
"Filth blood!"
Its voice was both fearful and angry, then confused.
"No, no, this is not filth blood."
It stared at the bloodstains on the ground, muttering to itself, its voice growing clearer.
"New blood, I feel an overwhelming force of life from it, a force more potent than those other bloods."
The Flame Beast extended its claw as if to touch the bloodstains, but recoiled just before making contact.
Its massive body moved again, not to attack, but to retreat, all the way back to the chair it had been in initially.
Its body curled up, returning to the position it had been in when they first met.
"Who are you? How did you get here?"
The Flame Beast looked at Liu Zheng, its tone becoming gentle.
"My name is Liu Zheng, an external procurement officer. To fulfill a procurement task, I agreed to a deal with Amelia, the Grand Patriarch of the Blood Healing Church, and entered this Dream World to hunt you."
He said concisely.
"Ah, Amelia."
Upon hearing this name, a flicker of flame danced across the Flame Beast’s exterior.
"Is she still alive? That’s good."
There seemed to be a note of relief in the Flame Beast’s voice.
"How is the Church doing now?"
It asked.
"I don’t know; I’ve just arrived. Anyway, Yate has entered the ’Pale Night’ again, and the Church is still the ruler of Yate."
Liu Zheng shrugged.
"How long has it been since the last Pale Night?"
"Forty years, I guess."
That was what Anke had told him.
"Forty years... it seems the Church’s research has either still stalled, or it has advanced too quickly."
The Flame Beast mused aloud.
"Speaking of which, shouldn’t you introduce yourself?"
Liu Zheng said.
"Ah, my apologies, it’s been too long since I last conversed with someone."
The Flame Beast said apologetically.
"I am Dickens, the first Grand Patriarch of the Blood Healing Church, and Amelia’s mentor."
It said.
"So you hold that identity; no wonder she wanted me to kill you to seal your mouth."
Liu Zheng realized.
The founder of the Church had become beastified, which fully demonstrated that "Blood Healing" simply did not cure Beastification Disease. This was undoubtedly a significant blow to the status of the Blood Healing Church in Yate.
It might even stir a massive storm within the Blood Healing Church itself, possibly leading to its demise, just like the Church of Suffering.
"Yes, she made the right decision."
Dickens approved of Amelia’s actions.
If it were in her place, it would have made the same choice.
"Since you’re the first Grand Patriarch, was the ’Blood Healing’ Skill invented by you?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"No, I only improved it; ’Blood Healing’ was invented by the people of Tommer. Or perhaps, they also simply learned the technique of ’Blood Healing’ through some channel."
Dickens shook its massive head.
"Then you should know, the source of Beastification Disease is likely ’Blood Healing’."
He said.
"No, the source of Beastification Disease is not ’Blood Healing’."
Dickens shook his head again.
"Beastification Disease does not turn humans into beasts but turns humans back into beasts."
"Humans are inherently beasts."
While Dickens’s mouth emitted hot flames, his words carried a chilling undertone.
