The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human? -
Chapter 282 - 276 It’s Right Here
Chapter 282: Chapter 276 It’s Right Here
"It’s right here,"
Amelia said softly.
"Hmm? You mean him?"
Liu Zheng pointed in the direction of the gaze.
"No, that’s my guard. It’s right here, just not within the same perspective as us."
Amelia said.
"You mean, it’s in another dimension?"
"Dimension? Yes, I think I know what you mean. A very subtle term, if I were still at Carcarens Academy, I might recommend you to Master Albert."
After chewing over the term, Amelia said.
"How do I go to the dimension where it is?"
Liu Zheng asked.
Given that this world had gods and technology that could turn people into Beasts, possessing black tech for dimension-hopping wasn’t far-fetched.
Amelia did not answer but raised her hand, took the skull from the main altar, and held it in her arms.
She pressed her face against the skull’s face, like a mother holding her child, like a wife nestled against her husband.
After ten seconds, she placed the skull on the ground.
"Take this, and then put this on."
Amelia pressed a mechanism, and a hexagonal iron cage dropped down from the ceiling.
Liu Zheng took off the hexagonal iron cage and found that it fit almost perfectly on his head.
His nostrils flared slightly; he seemed to smell something indescribable coming from the cage.
"Could you first explain the principle?"
He asked somewhat warily.
"Have you ever dreamed, young man?"
Amelia countered.
"I have, but not often,"
Liu Zheng thought for a moment and said.
Besides those bizarre, strange dreams, all he could remember were traceless wet dreams.
"Have you ever thought that dreams might actually exist?"
Amelia said.
"Never thought about it."
He shook his head.
"Do you believe it?"
"I do."
Liu Zheng said without hesitation.
"Oh? Why?"
It was Amelia’s turn to be surprised.
"Heh, if you had experienced everything I have, you’d believe it too,"
He said with a face full of vexation.
There was nothing the Metropolis didn’t have; a mere Dream World was nothing to fuss over.
"Although I don’t quite understand, as long as you believe, that makes it much easier to communicate,"
Amelia didn’t seem keen on asking further.
The secrets of the Blood Healing Church were plenty enough already; she did not have the energy to explore even more knowledge.
"To put it simply, the Beast is trapped in the Dream World, and this skull is the link that connects you with its dream."
Amelia explained.
"And what about this hexagonal iron cage?"
Liu Zheng inquired.
"This is a tool to protect your spirit. The Dream World is eerie and mutable, and without the cage to cover you, your spirit will become lost in an endless maze of illusions,"
Amelia explained.
"Sounds dangerous,"
He quipped with a grimace.
Anything to do with concepts like spirit, mind, or soul was pretty much never good news.
"It is indeed dangerous,"
Amelia admitted frankly.
"But if it weren’t for such difficulties, it wouldn’t be worth the price you’re offering, would it? Mr. Outsider Buyer?"
Whether it was the Tommer Holy Grail or the umbilical cord of the Divine Son, they were priceless, true Holy Objects.
Even if it were high-quality Blood Gems, those were obtained by the Church at the cost of countless Hunters’ lives.
If it weren’t for the fact that the Beast was of extraordinary significance to both the Church and Amelia themselves, she wouldn’t have been able to quote such a high price.
"Makes sense. How do I break free from the dream then?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"As long as you kill that Beast, you will automatically break free from the dream."
"What if I don’t kill it?"
He asked again.
"Then you’ll have to wander in the dream forever, dancing with the Beast,"
Amelia said indifferently.
"Isn’t there any other way?"
Liu Zheng asked persistently.
"If someone slaps the iron cage hard enough, that could also wake you. However, such an action would severely shock your spirit, and you might go directly insane,"
Amelia explained.
"Tsk, this deal really isn’t an easy one,"
he said, his eyes vacant.
"Carcarens Academy once had a saying, ’To gain something, you must first lose something.’
Amelia sounded much older than her years when she said that.
"Fine, I’ll do it."
Liu Zheng surreptitiously glanced at the dark ceiling, putting on the hexagonal iron cage.
He placed the skull on the hoof and then sat down cross-legged.
"What next?"
he asked.
"Please close your eyes,"
Amelia instructed.
Liu Zheng did as he was told, a fragrant scent wafting into his nostrils.
A warm sensation spread from the top of his head throughout his body, and soon a deep sleepiness overtook him.
In a daze, he felt as if he saw countless wonders flashing before him like a carousel lantern.
There were enormous blood moons, glittering shores, abandoned workshops, towering castles, and many more indescribable things.
And Liu Zheng’s consciousness skimmed over these spectacles, leaving not a trace.
"Rational decline exemption successful."
The system’s notification startled him awake, and when he came to, he found himself standing at the entrance of the main sanctuary.
The huge bronze doors were tightly closed, and the clergymen who had been standing guard outside had all disappeared.
Faintly, the roar of the Beast could be heard emanating from behind the bronze doors.
And the first thing he did upon regaining consciousness was to take out the sawtoothed butcher knife from the system space.
"Good, the system is still solid,"
Liu Zheng nodded in satisfaction.
Although a system that could handle Metropolis would not likely be blocked by the Dream World, what if it was?
Most of his powers were in his items, and if the system really were blocked, he’d be rendered helpless right there and then.
Fortunately, his worries did not come to pass.
After thinking it over, Liu Zheng pulled out all the items that might come in handy.
After all, it was quite possible that he was dealing with a BOSS even more powerful than Beethoven, deserving of some respect.
He edged the door open slowly, no attacks came as he had expected, but the roaring stopped instead.
Liu Zheng rolled into the main sanctuary in a dodge roll.
Still, no attack came.
He got to his feet and looked toward the center of the hall.
The original main altar had also vanished, leaving only the statue of the Headless Angel pouring out its jug on display.
Right underneath the mouth of the jug sat a very large throne, upon which lay a deformed monster.
It had a body structure resembling that of a human, except all its flesh had withered away like a mummy’s.
Lush and very long hair grew from its gigantic multi-branched antlers, trailing along its back towards its arms, functioning like thorns or wings.
And the most terrifying aspect was the blazing fire burning within, making it appear like a devil that had crawled out from Hell.
"SI DISCTE TIBI VIS SACRAMENTUM"
A sacred and ethereal choir suddenly resonated, echoing throughout the main sanctuary.
And the Beast lying on the throne began to stir.
It released its beastly claws that had been covering its face, turning its massive head toward Liu Zheng.
"Awooo!"
It let out a deafening roar and then leapt up from the throne, bearing down on Liu Zheng like a mountain of flames.
