Chapter 501: The aftermath
Darrien
He has been in my arms for almost an hour and the way he is clutching on to me just makes this all the more intense. I can sense the fear in his voice. He is frightened and I can’t help but look around the room and the damage that occurred.
It is obvious that Jabi is the one that did all this but I can’t even picture him being this violent. I can’t imagine him breaking someone apart so badly and even if Lenny fucking deserved it, I don’t want this to happen again.
The bloodstains on his clothes are on mine now, I don’t care about that. Just having him here and alive is all that matters to me.
"I am sorry,’’ he breathes out.
Slowly, I pull away to look at him and his eyes are teary with all the blood all over his face.
"You didn’t do anything, there is no reason why you have to apologize.’’
He closes his eyes for a second but they are back open immediately "I am the one that did this. I killed him."
He slowly turns to Lenny’s body--or what is left of it. His torso is still whole but the rest of him is just pieces.
"I killed Lenny.’’
I nod because I already know this and I am so fucking proud of him. "You did what you had to do, this is not your fault, you didn’t have a choice.’’ I remind him. Lenny deserved everything that happened to him. He took Jabi, against his will and fucking tortured him.
He didn’t deserve to live. He is greedy and a heartless bastard. He took so much from Jabi.
I glance over at the door and then back at Jabi.
"Can you walk?’’ I ask. "I need to get us home," I add because being here is making him even feel worse.
"We need to clean this up, we can’t leave him like this."
I nod "I will come back for this. I will clean this up. You don’t have to worry about anything again.’’
I try to assure him but his mind seems so far away. He is looking at the scene of Lenny’s death. I don’t want him to regret this, I don’t want him to take the blame for this but I also know that this is not the time to dwell on this. He is still shaken up about the whole thing and I need to give him some time.
I lift him in my arms and he closes his eyes as I carry him out of the room. There is no need for words. I just need to get him away from here, I need to clean him up. I need him to forget about this completely.
He is staring in the distance and he seems to be concentrating on something. I grab a blanket from the bed and wrap it around him. I walk out of the room with him and the girl that showed me the room is still standing by the door. The expression on her face is blank and it seems like she is staring into space. I don’t know what her deal is--I mean, she hasn’t even attempted to attack me. That could only mean one thing, she doesn’t know what is going on.
"Help me,’’ she finally speaks up but my whole focus is getting Jabi out of here.
I only have to worry about him.
I walk down the stairs with her trailing behind, I feel her grasp as she reaches for me. Her eyes bore into mine as I hold onto Jabi tighter. I look at him and his eyes are closed. He has passed out, probably overwhelmed by everything that has happened. I look up at the stairs and the girl follows my gaze. She looks like she wants to say something but she is still staring at Jabi.
I sigh "I don’t know where I am. I don’t know what is happening,’’ she manages finally.
I know what this is, it seems like she was compelled by Lenny. That is the only explanation for this.
"I will be back, wait in your room and we can talk.’’
She looks at me with desperate eyes. It seems like she doesn’t want me to go but I have to. Jabi is my only priority and this might be selfish of me but he is all that matters and I will not act like that is not the case.
"Please don’t leave me here, I am scared."
"I will be back. Just wait for me.’’ I try again and this time, she moves her hand from my arm.
I watch her as she takes a step back. I hurry out of the house with Jabi still in my arms and the captain of the boat jumps off it when he notices me. "Do you need help sir?’’ he asks worriedly and I can tell he is confused with the situation.
"No.’ I tell him immediately as I climb into the boat with Jabi. I walk down the tiny steps until I get into the small room, I place him down on the bed and I pull the blanket from him. I am so worried about him. I don’t know how much this has affected him. I don’t want him to become bloodthirsty over this. I want him to be able to contain it. I want him to be okay.
I watch him as his chest rises and falls. All the reminders of today are still on him. I watch him and I don’t know what to do. I hear the boat move and slowly, his eyes open. A look of confusion sprawls on his face as he jumps up the bed. He looks around in confusion "Where are we?’’ he starts to panic.
I bring him to me and I stroke his cheek. "It’s okay, everything will be okay,’’ I assure him.
I hold him tight and he falls back into sleep. I hold him in my arms as the boat moves across the water.
