Chapter 493: Hold on till I find you

Jabi

He is here.

I don’t even know how this happened but here I am, in this dark cave and he is like a light to me. Shining so bright that the feeling of safety engulfs me wholly.

"How is this possible?’’ I ask him after our long embrace.

He is still holding me but his eyes are looking around like he is trying to figure something out.

"Your wolf brought me here,’’ he mutters quietly.

My heart thuds against my chest "Where is Lenny, why are you out in the cold?’’ he asks me all at once.

I don’t know how to tell him that Lenny is probably going to be looking for me, that Lenny might not even know that I tried to escape.

"We will find a way out of this,’’ he assures me. "Promise me that you will try to live, that you will try to stay alive. Please, Jabi, You have to stay strong until I come to you.’’ "But how will you be able to come to me?’’ I ask him. "I am on an island, I don’t even know where it is. I don’t even know where this is."

"We will find a way Jabi, I am sure we will. You know I will do anything to keep you with me, but for now, we need to be strong for each other." My eyes start to fill up with tears. I don’t know how to even tell him that I am scared.

This is hope that I didn’t even think I would get. I honestly thought I was going to die in this cave, all alone but the fact that I am able to communicate with him again warms me up completely.

After a couple of silent seconds, he wipes my tears softly. It feels so real, his touch is as electric as it would be in person but it is already clear to me that he is not here. I know that this is all in my head, my wolf somehow found a way to connect him to me, even though it is not real.

"I want you to get up," he tells me calmly and I watch him as he crawls out of the cave and for a second, out of my sight. I rush out of the cave because I don’t want to be alone. I want him with me at all times, even though I know that he will need to go soon. He is going to leave me and I will be alone again.

"Where is Lenny?’’ he asks me as I come out and the cold air hits me. I notice my wolf next to him and this is weird. Seeing a big part of me out of my body.

"There’s a house, by the beach. I don’t think he was at home, I don’t think he even knows I am gone. There was a girl there. It seemed like she was compelled."

We keep walking until we get to the beach, the wind blows against us, it is cold and I blow out a breath and feel the breeze on my face. I look ahead and I see the house, the light in the room he kept me is still on.

"I am going to ask you to do something, it might not be what you want to do. I don’t even want you to do this but you can’t stay outside in the cold, you must be hungry.’’

He runs his hands through his hair, I can see the strain in his neck.

I don’t even know what he wants me to do but from the expression on his face, I am sure that I won’t like it.

"What is it?’’ I ask him meekly.

I am just tired of all this back and forth. This is not something that I ever envisioned happening to me but it is happening and I have to stay strong because there is nothing else I can do.

If I cower in front of Darrien, it will just make him worried about me and I don’t want him to be so worried.

"I want you to go back to the house, I know it is hard, I know he is feeding on you but he won’t hurt you. He needs your blood and as long as he does, he won’t hurt you. I will find you and get you out but I don’t want you to be outside in the cold, I don’t want you suffering."

He grabs my hands in his and the squeeze is reassuring. I look into his eyes and the pain is there. I know how hard this must be for him.

"Okay,’’ I manage even though I don’t really want to do this. I don’t want to go back to the house. I don’t want to be Lenny’s blood bank. I want to be home with Darrien but he can’t take me away now and I have to understand that. I have to accept that and not make him feel worse than he already does. I go to him, I lay my head on his shoulder and he strokes my hair.

"I will find you. I promise. I am not going to leave you here," his words make me feel like everything is going to be okay and that is enough to make me hold on, until he finally comes to me.

"I have to go now,’’ he kisses me softly and the tears that I have been trying to keep off, spring out.

My wolf leaps forward and I watch him as he enters me, just the same way he came out and that bright light that came with Darrien, starts to slowly dissipate as I watch him disappear.

"I promise, I will find you,’’ he says before he evaporates finally. I fall to the sand, unable to stop crying because I am broken right now.

Weak and tired.

I look at the spot where he was and his footprints are still on the sand, the dent that lets me know that he was here. That he made a promise to me and he never fails on his promise.

All I have to do is wait and believe that he will find me.

Darrien always does.
