Chapter 472: Missing memories

Darrien

I get to the school in a frenzy because I don’t like the mind link that he sent and even though I couldn’t see him, I know that something is wrong. I shouldn’t have trusted Lenny with him, what was I thinking?

I had a gut feeling that he was up to something but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt. I didn’t think with my instincts all because I wanted to make Jabi happy. The second I get to the front of the school building, I feel Jabi immediately and just like a map, we are connected. I get to the field in search of him and it is pretty easy. His scent is very strong as I get to the field and my worry intensifies. I just know that something isn’t right but I need to find him.

I reach for my phone in my pocket and dial his number. He answers on the first ring and my heart stops for a second.

"Where are you?’’ I ask him immediately, still looking around the field.

"Under the bleachers with Lenny. Are you okay?’’ he asks me and his voice is calm and collected. This is not the same person that sent me a mind link. Something is wrong right now.

I run in the direction of the bleachers but he comes out before I can duck inside. Lenny is by his side and they look okay.

"Darrien," he calls my name as he notices me, there is a confused expression on his face, almost like he doesn’t know why I am here.

"Come here,’’ I grab his arm to pull him away from Lenny and he doesn’t resist. There is a smile on Lenny’s face. I don’t like this smile one bit. I don’t like this situation one bit. Something is going on and I don’t want Jabi anywhere near this guy.

"Hey,’’ he waves his hand in the air as he clutches his backpack with his other hand. My eyes stay fixed on Jabi because I want to know if he is alright. He looks alright but something seems fishy.

"Hey," he calls me again, his eyes boring into mine. It seems like he is worried about me when I should be the one worried. This is all happening because he sent me a mind link. He said he was hurt but right now, it doesn’t look like he is hurt.

"Darrien," he breathes out my name and it makes my heart beat faster. I grab his face in my palm, trying to make sure he is hurt. I check his face for any sign but there is nothing and I don’t know what I am expecting, he would have healed if he was hurt.

"What is wrong, why are you here?’’ he asks me but I am out of my mind right now.

I turn to Lenny, who is just standing there creepily. I hate this man and I don’t even know why.

I just know that he did something to Jabi and I will get to the bottom of it. "I want you to stay away from Jabi. You hear me?’’ I scream at him because I am pissed off right now. Upset to the point where I just want to eliminate him from this world.

"Okay, it seems like I have done something again. Even though I don’t know what that is.’ he walks closer to us and faces Jabi "I will see you later,’’ he adds before walking away from us.

My eyes go back to Jabi, who is still just staring at me "You sent me a mind link. You sounded terrified. He did something to you.’’

He furrows his brows in confusion "I never sent you a mind link. There is nothing going on with him.’’

I know what this is.

He messed with his memories and I will find a way to prove it "Come on, I can’t explain this to you while you are like this.’’ I grab his arm and lead him to the parking lot.

"School’s not over,’’ he objects but I glare at him angrily because this is what I should have don’t from the get-go. I wasn’t thinking straight, all just because I wanted to please him and now there is something messed up going on that I can’t pinpoint. I don’t know what he has done.

"Dar, you are hurting me. Please let me go,’’ he begs me as we get to the car. I stop walking and turn to him. There are tears in his eyes. I am making him cry and I don’t like that.

"Can you just listen to me? Please just trust me right now." I beg him because I need him to cooperate with me.

"Lenny didn’t do anything to me. You don’t have any reason to worry.’’ he tries to assure me but I know what he sent me. I felt his pain in that link. I know that he was hurt but I can’t figure out what he did.

"Okay, let’s say he didn’t do anything to hurt you. Let’s say he is not a bad guy. Can you just let me make sure?’’

He nods and I reach for him, slowly wiping the tears from his face. "Okay. Maybe I should just stop hanging out with him. It seems like you are never going to be okay with it."

That is the best thing right now but I need to make sure he hasn’t done anything to my baby.

"He messed with your memory. Something happened to you but you can’t remember,’’ I tell him.

"Are you sure?’’

"What do you remember?’’ I ask him. My eyes focused on his face. Apart from the moisture in his eyes, he looks fine.

"Everything. I haven’t forgotten anything. During lunch, I went under the bleachers, I met a girl. Her name is Jaina, and then Lenny came to join me. We talked about him and how he became a vampire. I told him about you and how I met you. There was nothing dangerous about the conversation."

It’s weird but I still don’t believe that everything is okay.

"I am taking you to Eligio. I don’t know what he did but he did something and I am going to find out and when I find out, I am going to kill that motherfucker."
