Chapter 42: Why are you lying?

Alanis.

Wet kisses might seem gross but if you wake up with that from the love of your life, then it is the best. I open my eyes and his warm smile is the first thing I notice; this is the best feeling.

"Good morning baby," he plants a soft kiss on my lips. I grab his neck to pull him closer and deepen the kiss, this gets a moan from him.

"Hi,"

He moves away from me to give me space to get up and I look at him with a smile "How long was I out?" I question.

He replies with a shrug "Not too long, are you going to eat?" he asks with a raised brow and I know what he is talking about. He means blood, I am not that hungry yet. I could stay a day or two without it but I know he’s worried after the last time I didn’t eat.

"I don’t need blood right now," I inform him.

"But it won’t be a problem if you have some, boost your energy?"

He is fishing, being his usual overprotective self. I don’t need overprotective or worrywart beau, I just need Beau. "I don’t need to right now," I stand up and walk into the bathroom. He follows me "Do you have a toothbrush I can borrow?" I ask him.

He laughs "Do vampires even need to brush their teeth?"

"Yes, we do, we have baths and brush our teeth. We still need to be clean even though we don’t have beating hearts," I roll my eyes and he laughs even harder. I know he is just messing around but I am very tense right now. I know I have to tell him about his father because I promised today. And it is today, I can’t run away from this forever.

He comes closer and brings a new toothbrush from under the sink "Here you go baby." he kisses me briefly before going back into the room. I look at my reflection and I look paler than usual. There are dark circles around my eyes, almost like I haven’t slept in a while even though I slept oh so comfortably in his arms last night.

I brush my teeth and take a quick shower. Beau is no longer in the room when I walk in and this has me worried because I need to talk to him. I get dressed in his clothes and walk out of the room. He told me not to wander around the house, he is still scared that someone will try to hurt me, he still feels the need to take care of me, protect me. Even though I can fight my own battles. I go outside the house but he is still nowhere to be found, this has me worried and confused. I see Rex in the kitchen and he seems to be eating a sandwich. He looks up from his food with a faint smile.

"Have you told him?" he asks immediately.

I shake my head because that is all that is looming over me. I am going to tell him once I see him. "Not yet."

He sighs "He came over to my room last night. He was very pissed. Please just tell him or I would have to be the one to do it. I am only loyal to him"

At this point, he is threatening me. I don’t do too well with threats.

"I will tell him," I snap at him because I am getting pissed.

My phone rings suddenly and I grab it from the back pocket of the sweat pants I have on. I see Maddie’s picture and this confuses me because I haven’t seen or heard from her since our break up. I don’t know why she is calling me but if I can make peace with her, I wouldn’t mind.

I answer the call turning my back to Rex.

"Alanis," she says my name and it sounds like she is crying. Why is she crying? I go into worry mode because I still care about her.

"What is wrong?" I ask immediately.

"Someone...so...someone, please I need you," she is mumbling because I can barely understand what she is saying.

"What happened?"

I hear her heavy breathing clearly, she sounds like she is in pain "Someone took me to this underground basement and he has kept me, hostage, help me," she cries.

My heart freezes in my chest "Where are you?"

I wait for her response but nothing comes after that. "Hello," I manage through my panic. This seems like a setup, whoever took her did this to get me. So, there is only one person that comes to mind. I pull the phone away from my ear and see that the call is still connected.

"Cassius," I call his name enraged.

"I knew you were smart enough to figure that out," his voice finally comes into the phone. The anger seeps within me as I hear it and I want to hurt him badly. I turn around and Rex is still eating on the counter table. He is watching me with a curious expression but says nothing. i walk out of the kitchen hurriedly until I am outside the house. Ever since the vampires attacked, no one has been outside, except the people on guard duty. There are two men in front of the gates but I don’t know them.

Walking away from them with the phone still pressed to my ear "What do you want with her?" I manage angry that somehow, I have involved her in this. He must have been watching me for a while. That is the only explanation and if he knows the kind of person I am then, he knew that he could get me by using her.

"I want you," he breathes into the phone.

"Let her go," I warn him.

He laughs "You know that’s not how it works, you come to me and I let her go," he tries to bargain. I can’t go to him, I know this is a trap, if I go, I will not be able to leave. He is trying to go for an exchange.

"Where is she?"

"I will send and address, come and I let her go. But you have to come alone," he ends the call before I can object or refuse and now, I know I have to do this. I can’t leave her because he will kill her. Cassius is Ruthless and he is only doing this because he knows he can use me to get to Beau and his family.

I don’t know what to do. If I tell Beau about this, he won’t allow me to go and I need to because Maddie needs me. I still care about her and this is all my fault. I need to do this.

My phone beeps and I see a message with an address. There is a warning after the location.

COME ALONE.

It is in all caps. Cassius doesn’t want to hurt me, he only cares about the wolves. He won’t do anything to his kind unless I am a threat. I can’t just up and leave. I need to find Beau; I need to see him in case this goes south. I go in search of him until I can find him.

Rex comes out of the house through my search "Are you okay?" he asks probably because of the phone call in the kitchen.

"Yes, have you seen Beau? I need to find him."

He shrugs "You should check the gym," he suggests and this confuses me because I didn’t even know they had a gym here.

"Where is it?" I ask him.

He points to the direction of one of the many houses in their community "The third door to the left once you get in,"

I nod with thanks and walk over to the house. I walk until I get to the third door to the left just like he told me to and once I open it, I see him immediately. He is dressed in gym shorts alone and sneakers. The room is filled up with gym equipment and this confuses me. Why do they even need a gym, they are supernatural beings. I guess that is another difference between us two.

"Hey." he stops what he is doing with an encouraging smile. His arms outstretch to welcome me into his arms and that is what I do. He breathes into my ear and I close my eyes to remember this moment. I don’t know what is going to happen but I need to remember him so that I can stay strong.

"How did you know I was here?" he asks.

"Rex told me," I answer him honestly.

He stiffens in my arms "You seem close to him," he raises a brow in question. I know what he is fishing for and I know I promised to tell him today but I can’t right now. I have to be with him when I tell him, he can’t be alone when he finds out.

"I need to go home for a bit, I will talk to you when I get back," I lie because that is all I can do.

He pulls back from me and I know he is getting impatient "Why?" he asks.

"I need to get some stuff and father asked to see me," I continue my lies because apparently, that is all I am good for.

"I’ll come with you."

I shake my head "You know you need to stay here. It’ll just be a couple of hours. I promise." I dismiss his offer but I can tell he doesn’t believe me. He is suspicious of me.

"Why are you lying to me?" he agonizes.
